Rental equipment and services

Recommended Posts

Planning a trip soon and was considering either shipping or renting clubs in the Pompano Beach, FL area for a weekend. I've never done anything like it before so pardon any silly qs.

A few q:

- How reliable is local rental equipment typically? Is it really beaten up or decent? What's the typical cost for a set?

- Has anyone used ClubLender and how is their gear? Looks like they have the '21 Apex line.

- Are there any companies similar to ClubLender?

- Anyone use ShipSticks before? Any issues/damage to your clubs?

Much appreciated!

As a lefty, you don't want to know what I have played with as "clubs". But if using a service, you should have better luck than at a course where they scrounge to find clubs to fill a bag with.

As for shipping, unless using a proper container, it's anyone's guess how it turns out.

<edit> just looked at Shipsticks and that seems legit. At least in theory you are covered. Just don't trust them with anything that can't be replaced.

I can only imagine. Slim pickings! Club Lender seemed to have some decent gear but only Callaway options (I'd rather not play with a TM Sim Max if I can avoid it 😄 )

Recently looked into this myself as I'll be at a golf resort for a few days this summer for a non-golf related trip. I checked into ClubLender (and a few other similar services) but they wouldn't work for me. They don't offer anything in x-flex shafts unfortunately. I called the resort and it was a similar story. Just ladies, senior, regular, and stiff flex options. I asked about prices just out of curiosity and was quoted anywhere from $50 - 100 per day.

I'm left with either ShipSticks or not playing. ShipSticks looks legit and I've seen on here that people have had success with it, but honestly I'm leaning towards just not playing at this point. The hassle of shipping my clubs seems like more than I want to deal with for just 1 or 2 rounds of golf.

What other services did you check out? I have the same issue. I swing between S+ and XS but I can manage a stiff set for a weekend.

Honestly I don’t even remember the company names. I did a google search. ClubLender was the first one that came up and there were 2-3 others on that same page I looked. Pretty much the same story for all of them. Nothing above stiff flex.

Might not be an option but getting a quality travel case is a good option so you can play your clubs. Anything like driver or woods you can take heads off and put in your carryon. I found if looking for xstiff better taking your own clubs to enjoy the round.

If I travel more for golf I can see that as an option but for now I think I just need a weekend fix

I’ve never had a bad experience with ShipSticks. Probably about 100$ to ship from northeast to fla one way. Maybe see if your local club has a box or you may use your own club glove type cover.

I would definitely pack them up yourself.

How does that differ from sending them via ups or FedEx on my own? Looks like they just provide you a label. For a minute I thought they provided a box and everything.

I guess the main difference is that if you have an issue, broken, lost etc., you just deal with ShipSticks. One call and they track them for you.

they (ShipSticks) does use UPS or FedEx. Maybe I paid more with SS but I felt more confident using their service.

just checked and it’s 65$, you can buy a box at most Staples.

Thanks @Drewmun. It's looking more and more like a better option.
