Bellum Winmore

Many of you may already know that one of the Bellum Winmore owners is selling off old inventory putters on eBay that he had laying around. No doubt some of you have bought these putters and/or may be thinking about buying one. In the past couple of months I’ve bought three very reasonable-priced 707 models. I thought it would be neat to own three similar models (without breaking the bank) from the same maker...all with totally different looks and feels. One is all stainless and the other two have copper inserts. The face on one of the copper inserts is milled and one is not. Also, one of the copper insert 707i putters was hand softened by the maker, which is totally bad a**. If you have older Bellum Winmore models you’d like to share and/or the more recent ones the owner on eBay has been selling, please share pics here. Some of the stuff he’s doing with the hand softening and torching is definitely neat and different. I’d love to see some more examples of some of the work this guy has done.

 

I really like my hand softened 707i and it is my current course putter, so I’d figured I’d share some closeups of the hand softened and non-softened 707i’s. Also, if you happen to have a Bellum Winmore head cover you want to sell me, I’m game. Haha. He didn’t have any leftover covers. 
 

Update: I have two solid rounds (31 and 33 putts) under my belt with the softened 707i. This thing is a performer and mishits even seem to roll out the same as pured strikes. It’s fantastic on lag putts.

Very nice, love a flat cavity like that where its seamless to the topline. Short plumbers is cool as well, less toe hang than a traditional plumbers neck or more? I like the idea of the 3 same shapes with 3 different faces for different feels.

It’s got roughly the same toe hang as a traditional length plumbers neck. I showed a pic of these to another putter aficionado I know a while back and he said he thought the shorter plumbers neck would yield a lot of toe hang. It doesn’t though (it’s 37 degrees). I’m not sure the exact design principle behind it, but I do know BW putters were designed to balance on or very very close to the sweet spot. I don’t know how much this matters after it’s shafted up, but I do feel like the balance on my 707i is spot on.

My new package of BW putters just arrived. The rainbow torch on this stainless Donny is pretty sick, so I figured I’d share. The pics don’t really do it justice. I’m not sure how he torches stainless to rainbow it like this, but it’s pretty slick with a black shaft. It also has a really nice sound/feel for a smaller putter. 
 

“I’m slamming them tonight! You guys are dead in the water.”

Not sure if anyone has interest, but I’ll post pics of the other ones I bought when I get a chance.

That 'Donny' shape is killer, some really nice machining too along with the finishing.

This is my favorite one. The cavity is like a reflective, polished, and lightly torched mirror.
 

This is undoubtedly the coolest putter ever made. It has great sound/feel, incredible balance, and rolls the rock like a champ.

Here’s the 303 stainless Midi 787. The electric kool-aid torch looks better in person. I also dig the pistol fat cat solution with the black shaft. It’s a weighty grip but seems like pretty high quality.

Last one in my delivery...the Redeye prototype. Tri-sole and bi-sole that sets up great. The balance on this one with a Golf Pride Tour Sensor is perfect. This one may boot the softened 707i out of the bag. We’ll see.

It’s a lazy cold Saturday morning in Pittsburgh and I was messing around with some indoor putting. I figured I’d share some pics of the torch job on the 787 compared to the torch job on the TP Mills Nellie Wings. They’re kind of similar and I thought it was cool to compare the two under some natural cloudy light. If you enjoy collecting putters like I do, then it’s always neat to see different maker’s putters up close next to each other.

He made me my shipment of awesome putters from his leftover heads and it sounds like @nosil went the same route I did with his 787, which also turned out awesome.

 

I’m not sure if he’s totally back up and running, but I did ask him about possibly sending my other 707i back to him for some hand grinding and softening to take off some weight and he said he’d do it. If I do that, I’d probably also have him torch it; especially now that I’ve seen more of his stainless torches and they are apparently all pretty wicked. I’m still debating.

Thank you. I had looked for his website and  reviewed what I could find on social media and there hadn’t been activity for quite some time. Thought I was missing something. 
 

I do agree, the torching I’m seeing looks stellar.

Thanks.  I liked the basis 787 shape but it was too long, edges were a little sharp, and heavy. Cut it down about 1/4" so it us under 4" heel to toe and now weights 345g.  Here is a comparison of stock to my ground model

 

 

I am going Black shaft but haven't decided on grip.  I typically do superstrokes but this may required something special.  The only thing I would say I am a little disappointed about is that he doesn't have covers;  I like to match my covers to the putter.   Guess I will have to find something special there too.

Shaving that 787 down makes the size and weight awesome. Cool thing is the balance stays perfect even after grinding it down. At least it did on mine.
 

His black shafts are awesome. I’m not sure what brand they are, but they are gloss and seem to have a “torched” look to them. It’s hard to explain, but it’s different than the black shafts on my Mack Made and Lajosi. It looks more premium to me, but who knows? They could be the same shaft just different finishes. 

Let us know what you decide on. I’m curious to see the end product. 
 

I’m also hoping he starts back up and offers some new shapes. I’d do another custom with him if he does.

Some course action with my 707i BW. That Wilson C300 2 hybrid in the pic above the BW and next to The Dude started hooking the ball on me. Don’t you worry though, it will be replaced with a new hybrid that will undoubtedly not hook the ball. Huzzah.

This dude is killing me with his eBay posts. Last thing I need is another BW putter, but man is this “winner/runner-up” finish nice. The fact that it’s a one-piece and flat-faced is so cool. If anyone on Golfwrx buys this, please post some additional pics in the sunlight and some really good closeups of the face.

I keep in touch with Tim and he shared some pics of a build he’s doing. I thought it was cool because you can see the hand work that went into it before the final finishing and cleanup is done.

I suspect the more popular boutique guys (Mills, Byron, Lajosi, Mann, etc.) also do tons of stuff like this, but I usually never get to see any pics of it in progress.
 

I saw a little from Lamont during a build (specifically a video of him grinding a wave with a belt sander into the flange of an MA/99, which was cool as f***; and a pic of the torched head being cooled in oil, which was pretty slick...pun intended).
 

I didn’t see much from Kari (just saw fresh mill pics, then the final product).
 

Josey showed me the milling and software designing in progress, and some other really cool stuff along the way...like the neck welding.
 

Just highlighting the fun nature of boutique custom builds. Ever wonder why people blow a bunch of money on these boutique putters? Well, because the process is fun to see unfold.

This model is the closest to face balanced of his models. It’s 20 degrees.
