ZX7 vs T100

Recently got fit and it came down to these two irons. Went with the ZX7 for a few reasons. First, the solid, pure strikes were unlike anything I'd ever hit before...soft butter and explosive off the face. Second, the flight was much more consistent than the T100...spin, speed, offline. I'm quite steep so it sounds like it was the right choice. Obv it's just me but it was a no brainer. Big caveat is that I haven't hit them off grass yet... Will do so today.

Do you also drive the car that performs the best? Maybe people have other factors that matter more to them than the absolute performance?

Really? In a thread on a forum that is dedicated to playing/performing better at this great game. This is the "go-to" comparison for you? But, since you asked, I'll play. If I was trying to drive better, then I would 100% drive the car that performs better. The literal topic of the thread is "vs." How can you not address performance.

I am having a similar decision regarding T100s and P770. I feel like the T100s 5 iron and below are much more difficult though which complicates things.

Have you hit them?  I was 100% in the same boat in thinking they were visually more intimidating than I had preferred....hitting them took that all away, and now they are in my bag.  They hype and buzz about the tech in the T100s is legit, and really shines in the bottom of the set.

I play the T100 and hit a friends ZX7 recently. I give the edge on feel to the Srixon.  They feel really solid and soft.  The T100 feels really good to me but don't quite have the traditional forged feel of the ZX7.  With that being said, I still prefer the T100 overall as I much prefer the look at address.  The shaping of the short irons in the Srixon's just don't appeal to me.  The 8, 9 and PW look big at address relative to the mid and long irons.  I'm not sure the reasoning behind it but it's been a common design trait of Japanese irons for decades....Mizuno, Miura, Bridgestone, etc.  This has always stood out to me going back to the days of the MP-29's.  There must be something to it but it's not my preference.

Besides the black T100S being sick, thats also why I ultimately passed on the Srixon.  Awesome clubs and all, but the 8, 9, pw looked hi toe ish to me.

If anyone thinks T100 feels better than Endo forged ZX7 my only guess is that you must have a very shallow angle of attack and/or your low point is very close to the ball and you’re getting scrubby turf interaction where as the titleist’s leading edge relief is giving you extra room to get into the back of the ball. ZX7 is one of the most pure feeling irons you could ever hit with the proper delivery.

I noticed in multiple fittings my AOA got steeper with a heavier shaft.

The ZX7s are as soft and pure as anything I’ve hit since Mizuno. As someone already mentioned, anything Endo forged (regardless of what brand is stamped on the back of the club) is going to be pretty amazing.

No offense to anyone intended because feel is subjective, but I also find the ZX7 to be soft - like the club head is made or soft lead or pure gold, as in dead soft.  Mizuno's grain flow forged soft is a little more lively and snappy while still being. soft.  I think some of this has to do with head geometry because the ZX7 was made in the same building as the Bridgestone J15CB's which I find to be the best feeling irons ever made by human hands.

I've given the ZX7 a green grass workout and while it's a solid performer and a decent feel - it's a a dense softness for sure. Could it be the modus?  That's what I had in the ZX7 6-iron I was hitting outdoors. (?)

I hit the źx7 in a store on a matt and i was quite suprized by how harsh i thought the feel was... could just be me... could be the matt and indoor combo but other irons felt better to me in the same setting. I guess i slightly favor the 100s.... the zx7 still intrigue me though for some reason? Apparently they are a touch more forgiving too.

I’ll add my experience for ZX5 - hit indoors on a mat and I agree it was quite harsh. I got them outdoors on grass and it feels like a totally different club. Way way better. I assume ZX7 would be the same.

Can’t speak for T100 though. I have hit the 2019 T200 and those were surprisingly nice feeling.

EDIT: I also just realized I quoted a statement from almost a year ago.  I saw “ZX7 vs T100” and I got too excited!

Its personal choice... I am partial to minimal specs so T100 gets my vote.  I like the ZX7 look and narrow sole but not the more rounded digger cambered sole, nor do I like the offset or really strong lofts.  But it's the offset that turns me off.  T100 heads are slightly stronger lofts compared to my 620 MBs with MMT 125s, but ZX7 are even stronger, and shaft choices are not the best.  Other consideration may be delivery.  I suspect a large LGS is more likely to have T100s, as opposed to ZX7, which may or may not be on a tanker floating somewhere. LOL

If you are bothered by how something looks, don't buy into the thinking you'll get used to it, if it performs.  That takes a certain type of person, which I am not.  LOL Like saying I'll marry #1 woman cause she cleans and a great cook, but don't like looking at her, or I bought a car with a fast engine, yet don't like driving it or looking at it. 😛

Years back never owned TM, so bought a 2-PW set of TM Rsi TP irons.  I didn't look closely at their specs, but figured I'd get used to them.  I forgot I tried it earlier and sold the 735cm irons.  Boy, was that wrong.  Offset and lofts drove me bonkers, they lasted about 10-11 months.

It's one thing to deal with a distraction on the range, it's another to cope with it when you have to focus and play your best during a tournament or $$$ game; at that point it was just too distracting for this high functioning blah, blah.  I went and bought new 716CBs which had minimal offset, traditional lofts and a sole and leading edge that could be adjusted.  Played them till I bought the 620s.
