Why no love for Mizuno wedges?

Bad head shapes and very sharp lead edges are my reason for not using them.

nothing "feels" like a Mizuno...

And that goes for their wedges too.  You just don't get that soft feel from a thick wedge face.  And that ditto for all the forged wedges I've tried.

As far as Boron, I thought they were done with that?  Last I looked they made no mention of it.  Also the point where I switched from Mizuno to Bridgestone.

I've heard a lot of great things about Artisan.  Is there anyway to get around their on site testing/fitting policy?  Would love to game at least a wedge of theirs.  I'm all about custom wedges in general.

Phizzy-

Sorry I didn't respond earlier.  There is no way around the fitting process.  It is a very in depth fitting that involves hitting over 100 shots from different distances, lies, turf, etc.  It truly is unique.  Mike T hand grinds every single wedge.  If you can make it happen, I would recommend it.

The only reason I’m not playing mizuno wedges is because they keep putting a damn ugly badge on them. The T7 and T20 are both flawless except for the ugly stamp in the middle that shows the loft. What makes it worse is you can’t just remove the paint fill like any other wedge. Sure that’s superficial but I guarantee if they fix that issue they’ll sell more units

The T20's do indeed contain boron--it's stamped on the hosel. Apparently it's added to add more longevity to the wedge.  I feel they should get rid of the boron, add the copper underlay, and it would be game over. Cally MD 2 wedges...that's what the Mizuno wedges should feel like.

I have the T20s and I like them. They feel nice but not pure like my MP20 irons. I actually liked the solid feeling of the Vokey SM8s better, but I liked the shaping of the T20s and they felt more nimble around the greens. The SM8s felt a little too heavy and clunky on touch shots.

I agree that a more pure forging would be great, and Mizuno also needs to do a better job of describing its different grind/loft configurations, and stamping this on the clubs themselves (subtly, of course).

Far from it. I think they are among the nicer looking wedges. I removed the paint-fill on mine and they are clean, shiny little jewels.

Did acetone take the black paintfill out, or something else?  I find it really hard to read the loft due to the font of the numbers.

When I had my original T-Zoid's back in 1997 I was adamant about matching Mizuno wedges to them for the "forged feel".  The model I used (honestly I can't even remember the name) didn't feel any better than my Cleveland 588s I had at the time, were way too round looking and ugly, and just overwhelmingly filled me with a sense of "Meh".  Never tried one again.  Gamed many sets of Mizzy irons over the years, but never went back to their wedges.

Side note, as far as forged wedges go, I absolutely LOVED the original X Forged wedges with the OG Mac Daddy grooves....those were fantastic wedges.

I like my T20's, but can't say that I'm the pickiest about extreme grinds or head shape.

Rather, the difference maker for me is the no-upcharge shaft and grip options.  Adding a KBS shaft, MCC grip, custom stamping, and preferred swing weight is $276*, while the T20 stays at $149.   I know budget and pricing is a personal thing and subjective, but double the price is double the price.

* I realize you can order custom options from retail accounts like Global Golf @ $159 a wedge, but felt like direct from Titleist is the most relevant comparison.  That's still $50 more per club for (what for me is) identical performance.

I used Citristrip gel. Works like a charm. Yes, it does make lofts hard to read, but I have a 14-way bag so my clubs all have their designated spots in the bag.

  1. Less availability to demo
  2. Less loft/grind/bounce options
  3. Specific shape (that I like, some don't)
  4. All their lofts are the same length stock. Anyone used to length progression in their wedges will need to custom order and play swing weight roulette.

I'm a Vokey guy now, they meet all my needs and stand up to crazy amounts of wear and tear. My favorite wedge ever was the Mizuno MP T-11...those things were just so sweet to hit and had a fantastic sole grind.

Agree, for me vokeys are just incredibly durable and have a huge variety of grind/ bounce options it's hard to try anything else. Would try mizunos for a round or 2 however I dont think I would pay to try them at this point.

If I recall the t wedges are teardrop blade look and the s is more game improvement.
I’ve had an old t7 in the bag for a few years now.   The feel is great to my mind as I know what’s happened when it happens.   The other day we were playing preferred lies and I created the fluffiest lie and nearly went under the ball.  Caught it way high on the face and knew I was short right away.   So to me that’s good feel.
Off of a middled shot they feel solid to me.  I even ended up liking the ion blue.  That said I am loving my new Cleveland zip core raw wedges.   They are the real deal.

Nothing may feel like a Mizuno, but the recent series that had minute traces of Boron felt a bit firmer or different.

I don't think the T20s had Boron - but I myself have not been a fan of the T series (T4, T5, T2) due to feel and shape.  On the other hand, I really liked the S5 and S18, and am a little sad that I sold my S18s.  I Iook forward to the S22 this year and putting them back in the bag.

Yea, those minute traces of boron can be a problem.

I've tried Vokey wedges at various times but always found them to be too unforgiving.

I've had Mizuno wedges and liked them just fine.

My favorite wedges are Cleveland because they look great at address, have forgiving soles, excellent  DG stock shafts etc...

I like the shape and feel of the T20 Raws, but just couldn't get on with the grinds, to much trailing edge for me.

I am going back to Vokey S-grinds, just love that grind for me.

Love the feel of the Mizzy wedges but the sharp leading edge always caused me to dig a little too much. Bounce and grind of Vokey's just work better for my swing and angle of attack. If I played on harder turf then I could see me potentially gaming them but here in the South with the soft turf I need bounce and rounder leading edge.
