Hole from Sunday...what are you hitting?

255 yard par 3, slightly downhill..

 

I hit driver pin high into the green side bunker on the right...got out but 2 putted for bogey. 
 

so what are you hitting? Two of my playing partners hit 3W, and one hit a hybrid. I was like easy, smooth, 3/4 driver...

 

probably the longest par three I’ve ever played.

2. PW into the bunker.

3. SW onto the green about 60 feet from the hole.

4. Putter in the direction of the hole.

5. Putter closer to the hole.

6. Putter into the hole.

 

Triple bogey.

That looks like a pretty easy hole and should be a par 2.

I'd probably hit a 4-iron . . . from a different tee box.

Hard to tell how much room is open up by the green to the right. If it's tight, probably driving iron out to the left and then chip on. If there's room, 3 wood and pray.

Nah, I meant easy. My full driver is about 270....3/4 is probably an overstatement, but  meant just an easy swing, not swinging hard.

It’s about 180 or so to cover the short high grass and bunker short...green is rather large.

255 is to the middle of the green, right? Having watched the video you posted and seen the massive green, club selection is going to depend on flag position. To the back, it must be nearly 280, whereas to the front it would be 235.

 

So front pin, probably a 7w and hope to run it on, and back pin probably a 4w just to try and get on the middle of the green, or possibly attack with the driver. There seems to be some room to work with at the back, at least.

 

Quite an interesting hole, but I don't think someone of my skill level is supposed to play it at the full 255 yards.

I think I'd stick with my 3 iron or 1 utility plan. 255 yards is about 233m, and Arccos tells me that my 1 utility has a "smart distance" off the tee of 231m, so I'd stick with that. Or I'd lay up with an iron... which I'd ordinarily never even think about doing on a par 3!

For me it would be my 5 wood. The down hill aspect is the reason. Im am thinking about 230 to the front.

Yeah, we were playing the blue/white combo tees. Not the blacks, that hole called for the blue tee. Unfortunately, the normal blue tee box was under repair, so they had moved the blue tees back next to the blacks....hence the long yardage.
