As a consistent 5 cap, I think I could.  I don't think distance would be an issue for me as my average ball speed is 175.  Probably shoot somewhere in the 90's.  I will admit though that that brutal wind could make for an interesting day..........

If my sole goal was stay in double digits, I might basically play every par 4 as a par 5, and hit a club from the tee I know will stay in play. Maybe playing the par 4 holes as 7w, 7w, wedge means I don't make big numbers.

I suspect you could devise a strategy that pretty well limits doubles; if so, then it's *POSSIBLE*. Maybe not likely, but possible.

I am a definite no.  Probably both in ability and I can't play from tournament length and the severity and accuracy required would eat my lunch (and I am playing to a single digit handicap).  I am AARP age and cannot play these monstrously long courses, at least without a walker.  The more realistic reason I wouldn't break 100 is because I simply wouldn't play the course.  I really do not like Pete Dye courses, I more like abhor his course design.  I have only played one course he designed that I like (Riverdale Dunes at the Adams County fairground complex outside Denver, CO).  The Riverdale courses (Dunes and Knolls) were designed by both Pete and Perry Dye.  I have to believe there are more influences of Perry Dye but definitely some influences from Pete Dye.  Perhaps #15 at Riverdale Dunes is my favorite hole of the course.  Look familiar?

Not from the tourney tees.  I last played out there in Aug 2019.  Winds were between 10-15 MPH with gust in the late afternoon (last 5 holes of round two) at 25+.  Shot 81 and 86 from the Ocean Tees. Our caddy had us play from tourney tees on 5 of the holes to get the full Ocean Course experience. My caddy was awesome and probably saved me 4-5 strokes each round.

Of course.  Given my CEO experience and skills, I know how to get around a course in a strategic manner.

And I’d simply lean on my trusty 2 iron to keep me out of trouble.

For some reason I didn’t peg you as being 70.🤣

If you can carry 7w 250+ your plan has a chance.

Always wonder with these 'could you break 100?' questions, do you know before you go out that it's your only goal is to break 100? Because a decent golfer could play very safe golf because that's 27 over par to beat 100. So just play the most conservative shot on every hole.

But if a good golfer was given a scorecard with a score of 80 on it that needed to be beaten, all of a sudden they're going for tighter lines and they need pars, then they end up throwing a 10 in there on the card and that's where you get the 100 score.

I'm 70 years old so the distance would be a problem.  But, if I get an extra shot each hole to make up for that distance that's an extra 18 strokes putting me at 90.  Now, every par 4 that I can't reach in 2 shots I'm going to be coming in with wedge or less on my 3rd shot.  I'm a good wedge player, a very good chipper, and an average putter.  I may max out at 250 yard tee shots but I'm going to make some pars out there. I don't think 100 would be a problem.  I'd peg my score between 85 and 90.  If I could play from 6200 yards I'd be trying to break 80.

I voted No.  At least not from the tournament tees.  If it were 6800yds, I could probably 3wood-it around, and do it.  Still, if you're talking today's conditions, I don't know.  I think those runoff areas around the greens would be nightmare-inducing.

There were a few holes you could not carry the trouble as I recall.  That is the issue if you cannot carry a bare minimum of 250….into a 20 mph wind.

Yes, but I’d need to sign an agreement ahead of time that a caddy could pick all my shots for me.

As a younger guy, I’ve got the length to make it over the forced carries. Where I’d get in trouble is trying for birdies or trying to score “well.” Make no mistake, it’s a brutally hard course, but the beauty of good architecture is that someone playing really disciplined golf can get around without getting beat to a pulp while really good players find it extremely challenging to go low.

Do I think I could break 80? Almost certainly not. But I think a single digit player could get around better than 10 doubles and 8 bogies if they were disciplined enough to play for avoiding any big numbers.
