Strong or weak left hand

What are the positive and negative of a strong left hand?

There are a lot of opinions on this topic. General consensus is that a weaker grip is more powerful than a stronger grip. However, there are long hitting players with both.

 

I believe that there is a proper hand orientation for everyone based on their anatomy. I struggled for years while placing my hands on the grip the way everyone said I should. I could swing really fast, but had no directional control. Eventually, I began experimenting with the orientation (weak/strong) of my lead hand to see if there was a position where I could just "swing the club" and have the face "square" on its own. Eventually I found it and golf has become easier since. Had I approached the swing this way from the beginning, I feel I would have had a much better experience. But still, this is all anecdotal and each must find their own way. For the record, My lead hand is in a fairly strong position (3 knuckles) and my trail hand is in a neutral (palm matches clubface) position. I have seen other golfers use a very similar grip, Zach Johnson for one. I never had a problem generating clubhead speed, but my control was very inconsistent. This grip brought that under control and I am able to swing a full speed without worrying about control.
