TM adapter removal

Hi,

 

Got a HZRDUS Red 75g I want to put in my M4 3 wood.

 

It's a driver length at the moment with TM adapter on I'd like to salvage.

 

I don't have a pulling tool so thinking my options here are;

 

1. Cut down shaft to 43.25 inches and then just salvage the adapter.

2. Heat the adapter and pull it just to save the adapter then cut shaft down.

 

Am I being an amateur here?

Don't try to heat and pull it yourself without an extractor unless you're willing to risk damaging the shaft to the point of being unusable.  It's not 100% - but it is pretty high risk.   

 

I wouldn't cut the adapter off either - especially if it came from the TM factory.    If it was an aftermarket installation, then by cutting it off you'd be tipping it about 1-1/2" - and that would stiffen it up considerably for a 3wd installation.   If the adapter was installed by TM then they likely already tipped it 1" and you wouldn't have enough parallel tip section left for it to be usable after taking off another 1-1/2".

 

Your best bet is to find a local builder or golf shop that can pull the adapter off for you.   Or if you're feeling lucky (or desperate) maybe post a thread here in the forum asking if there is any hobbyists forum members near by that might be willing to help you out.

 

Then cutting it down to the desired length and gluing on the new head is something you might be able to take on yourself or have the same person do the work for you.

Never thought about the tipping situation.

 

This came with the driver originally so is probably TM tipped. 

 

I think I'll seek a 3 wood length shaft, trouble is M4 is M4 Tour so a glued head and most 3 wood shafts have adapters now.

You can get one of these simple shaft extractors for under $100. Not cheap, but if you do this a couple times, you will pay it off.

Yes seen that Adam, I'd probably try and find a shop locally to do it for me with a puller.

Just an FYI.   Once the adapter is off, it's very easy to convert a driver shaft to fairway use so not really important to limit your search to just 3wd length shafts.   There is no standard for 3wd length anyways so no guarantee that a 3wd shaft will end up at the right playing length that you want anyways.  So there's a good chance you're going to have to do some trimming regardless.
