Max has also now won a race from more spots than any driver in history. 1st-10th, 14th and now 17th. Nutty.

Max passed 6 cars on that opening lap. After getting penalties for aggressive driving, he straight put it down yesterday. That was also likely the nail in the championship. The dude can drive.

He's got that IT factor.  Those conditions were borderline undriveable...and where you saw pretty much every other driver go off at some point, Max not only kept it on the track, but he kept a pace and made moves nobody could match.

Would have been interesting to see how things unfold if Norris and Russell stay out on the VSC.  I think Max would have made his way through anyway...but it would have been great to watch.

After watching the whole race with my son, I have to say Max put in a legendary drive in Mexico.  He's just so good in the wet, and that car was giving him all the grip he could ask for.

Big shout-out to the French guys showing they can also drive in the rain--did anyone have Ocon and Gasly giving Alpine a double-podium bet in at a sports book?  I'm still stunned.

And whatever the opposite of a shout-out is, here's to Stroll looking like he beached his car on purpose.  Just wow.  He's not the only one who looked bad out there on Sunday, but he's the only one who created his own GIF.

As a Max fan, I watched the whole race again Monday night.  It was just as exciting to watch because you know the move into turn 1 is coming and you still can't believe how much more confidence he had braking into that corner from so far back.  That's what blew me away the second time I watched it.  How he consistently had the pace/grip despite how the track was constantly changing lap to lap from slightly wet to complete downpour.

You could see other drivers just being overly cautions due to the unknown of how the next corner may have more or less grip than the last time they went through the previous lap.

I've had this question all year, and it seems there are only two likely answers here.  My question is simple--but which answer is it?

Why didn't Red Bull or Mercedes sign Carlos Sainz?

Answer #1:  Max didn't want to drive with him again.  This answer covers both teams, as both teams were thinking Max would be driving for them in '25 and/or '26;  Max/Jos didn't want Sainz as a teammate again after their acrimonious (but pretty successful) pairing at Toro Rosso.

Answer #2:  These teams simply thought he wasn't good enough or had upside enough vs the other less expensive and younger options available.

I'd love to hear everyone's take, because in my mind Sainz was an easy answer for either team.

I think for Mercedes they are looking long term and Carlos has maybe 4 more years in F1 vs Kimi who might have 10+. Red Bull thought about it, but are also looking at long term and I think that's why the are trying to get Colapinto.

Carlos isn't a spring chicken. He's a hell of a driver and I think will have a long career like his dad. But only Alonso can do 20+ years in F1.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I don't think new Kimi will live up to the opportunity he's getting from Toto.  It doesn't make much sense to me why he isn't starting at Williams, or on loan somewhere else. They see him in the simulator, though, and I don't.

With Red Bull, it's always complicated.  Really complicated.  Colapinto knows this, and he's got one heck of a decision in front of him it seems.

Side note--Lawson has sounded very Max-like in the press of late, which is something I didn't expect from the normally-affable Kiwi.  He sounds frustrated and hungry.

Carlos turned 30 in March, and it's anyone's guess as to how much time he has left as a guy who can snag wins and podiums.  The cocktail of reflexes, courage and feel definitely has a shelf life.  Raikkonen won a race at 39, drug an Alfa Romeo to a 4th place finish at 40, and looked like a guy who needed to retire at 42.  Fernando doesn't look fast these days, either, but like Raikkenon at AR he doesn't have a proper machine in that AM.  Mansell won his lone championship at 39.  Michael won his last at 35, Hamilton was about a month from turning 36.  You could make a strong case Carlos doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentance with any of these generational talents.

That's an insanely good photo.

I've shot the Miami GP from turn 5/6 twice, and it's really freaking hard.

I don't even know if there's anything I can think of that I've shot that has been even close to that hard to shoot.

It's funny, when people talk "dream foursomes" they always talk pro golfers. I would love a round with Lando, Carlos, and Alex. Not only would it actually be competitive, but they seem like really cool dudes to hang out with. Play around at Wyn in Vegas, that would be epic.

I would have to agree with you here.  I don't know what my dream F1 foursome would be, but it would definitely include Carlos...might have to bend the rules a bit to include his dad as well, who I find hillarious when he's around junior (usually unintentionally).  Maybe throw in Phil Ivey as long as we are breaking rules, just to get everyone gambling and talking an insane amount of smack.

Senior can still drive, too. He's won Dakar with 4 different teams. I've never seen his golf game, but I'm sure he's a gamer.

He sucks at golf, I saw him try when they did the TaylorMade Red Bull collaboration. But those three can play and I feel like I would actually have a chance to beat at least one of them. 🤣

Checo out in Q1 again and Yuki is only a couple spots behind Max. I'm telling you, they should give him a year in the RB before he moves to Aston Martin.

George on pole and Hamilton blows track limits. Tonight should be good with Lando right behind Max.

Saw this.

My last trip out to LV, I stayed at Park MGM--which is a non-smoking property.  Walking out of the property, the second-hand smoke was everywhere I went on the Strip outside--it definitely is  omnipresent, and not ideal for those who don't care for it.

It was crazy how much faster Mercedes was than the rest of the grip at the LVGP.  Hamilton just tore through the field, Russell Checked out and never looked back.

When the Ferrari pit crew wasn't ready for Carlos today, he was don't playing the team game.  Charles can complain all he wants, but I can't blame Carlos doing Carlos and getting that podium.

Carlos isn't doing any favors. He's had a hell of a year and I'm excited to see what he can do at Williams. He will really help with the car development.

And yeah, Mercedes was fast all weekend. No idea why, but George was gone and Lewis blew past everyone. Had he not gotten his lap deleted, he could have put George into the wall and give Carlos the win. 🤣

Watching Toto errupt never disappoints--that's why it's ok to let Merc get a now-rare 1-2.  Set the big guy up for further hope, then enjoy the show when his drivers turn heel on one another.
