Bryson having fans removed for saying “Brooksie” to him...

It may be the Crown Jewels but seeing great shots there is still a very rare event. Hit drive...what’s the number?...find iron that goes that number...hit iron to number (or something like)...putt for birdie...roll it 8 feet past...come back for par (because the greens are that good)...repeat.

The only time the PGA Tour events ever became interesting was when two players were in contention and it became a matchplay situation. Trouble is everything being dumbed down to a level meant that you would typically have 6-8 players in contention and then the spectacle is again diluted to the point of not being of interest at all.

How is your first paragraph different from golf any where else? It is that way at Augusta, its that way at Oakmont, its that way at Seminole, its that way at literally every golf course I have ever played. You are always hitting it to a number, sometimes are you shaping it and controlling the trajectory to manipulate that number? Absolutely. But you're always hitting to a number. Is that number always the distance to the hole? Depends on where you play. If I am teeing it up at yocal municipal? Im firing right at every pin because the ball will stop. If I am playing ANGC, I might have 253 into 2 but I am only trying to hit it 225-227ish to let the ball feed back there.

And rare event?! Wow dude. Nothin for Price on 4 in 93? or Stricker in 99 for his hole out on 4 from the right rough? How about Phils shot on 10 from the left bunker in 2007? Or what about Payne Stewart in 88 on 11? Or maybe Phil again with his hole in one on 13 in 95? Maybe Norman's high hook on 14 tickles your fancy? No? DL3 shot on 16 in 03 was pretty special. Obviously Tigers putt...we have all seen it thousands of times.

The Brooks v Bryson thing is becoming increasingly toxic. The tour really needs to intervene.

As it stands I can't see both being in the Ryder cup.

This way of thinking is a big part of what's wrong with Golf, in my opinion: Too stodgy and full of itself. What is actually "toxic" about this banter?  I think it adds some color and texture to a game that is sometimes way too "buttoned-down". I think that gentlemanly and civil conduct will always rise to the top and that we don't need to "intervene" or do something for the game to retain its class. In the meantime, it'll be great fun to see those two deal with themselves and each other while on the same team.

You're confusing "good manners" and heckling an athlete while they're working - this ain't baseball, this ain't hockey, this ain't football, this ain't soccer.

New slogan for the PGA Tour: Please don't heckle us at events. We're working and we can't handle it.

You all make my point by saying things like "golf is different"; "golf is a sport of decorum"; "golf isn't like those other nasty low class sports."

'Banter' is good natured teasing. I'm not sure there's much good nature between these two. Seems like genuine hatred to me.

Maybe it's just an elaborate act between the two of them, but the problem is that fans are buying into this and taking sides, and the level of 'banter' between the two camps is escalating. I think it's only a matter of time before some idiot, fuelled by alcohol, pushes it too far and says or does something really unpleasant.

Golf isn't WWE. It doesn't need audience participation. It does need respectful fans who don't try to become part of the show.

Isn’t this what Bryson Aldrich wanted a two years ago. Didn’t BD want the “notoriety” of social media. The playful strength vids, and speed vids, and diet tips, and whatever else he’s posting on toc tic.
“social” media is just that. Social meaning fans, and media meaning platforms.
if BD doesn’t want the BS get a decent media manager. This stuff is just so elementary I’ve got a 13 yr old neighbour that’ll help him out.
Now “get off my lawn”. 😉

How can anyone deny that PIP has made golf much more interesting. We have:

1. A jock vs nerd cold war - one where the nerd has found himself way out of his league in terms of true athletic trash talking

2. Players giving other players cash to continue chasing their dreams - corny and cringy IMO no matter how "good" of a gesture it was. The player receiving the cash was clearly uncomfortable

3. The PGA trying as hard as possible to prop up a former prodigy. Spieth shoots 63 on Friday (but we won't mention his 85 on Thursday)

Keep tossing the noisemakers out,

You yell, you out, should be the PGA motto

Fans should not be a determinable factor in competitive sports, but I am sure there are still some of Arnie's army out there that will argue this point.

Can someone from the “I like to yell things at other grown men” crowd let me in on the reason why?  I am starting with the assumption that they are functioning adults. What would drive you to consume enough alcohol that you would think ... “why don’t I yell Brooksie at Bryson right now?”  I mean, you paid good money for the ticket (or you got in through a friend or your company). I’m sure all your buddies will think you are the coolest. I bet your boss might even give you a raise if he sees you on TV yelling at Bryson. Yep, that’s the ticket.

I just cannot like this guy; I appreciate what he has/is doing for golf and he's a heck of a player. I even enjoyed most of his YouTube videos, but then he turns around and does something silly like this time and time again. I'm not going to be tricked anymore and will refuse to root for him. He's such a baby.

I just never care about the players personality.

If BD wins and plays dope golf, I’m a fan, even if he acts like a fool.

Although the thing with the ants 🐜….🤣

But still, I’ll root for him if he puts up great shots.

Same with Patrick Reed. People say…he cheater!! But you need bad guys out there!

And there my friend is your first mistake.  I don't understand the need to reach out and touch another male golfer who is likely very sweaty, no matter how good he is playing. But that's just me.   I don't get chasing an errant tee shot of another golfer down the cart path just so I can fight through a crowd and point at it on the ground.  Lord knows I have done that numerous times with my own tee shots and have yet to experience any type of thrill.

Depends, different people play golf differently. The group I primarily play with is cool, encouraging, relaxed and civil. There is another group I have played with that basically ragged on each other and made fun of each other through the whole round....driving over someones golf ball on purpose, acting like drunken schoolkids....and not just one....but the whole group acting like that.

I tend not to golf with that group, but I can see why some guys find that appealing. That's the same crowd being vocal at the tournaments. They would relish a player yelling back, and love the continual insults.....both at them, at each other, and at the players.

Point is, everyone's idea of golf is not the same.

Has Bryson ever attended the Waste Management Phoenix Open?  If he has in the past and this is still ongoing, no chance he goes next year.  I can see all of 15, 16, 17, 18 all getting together on those holes and chanting Brooksie the entire time.

I mean they were chanting "Big D!ck Rick" at Fowler in 2019 when I was there, I saw topless women numerous times on the 16th.  I saw people roaming the grounds in tshirts with Tiger Woods mug shot on them, the people there do not care.  I also saw watched someone cheer Finau on calling him Fowler on the 10th teebox.  I didn't see Finau asking for a fan to be removed.  LOL

Difference being they weren't taunting Fowler, they were cheering for him.
I'm pretty sure had any of those t-shirt wearers screaming "you're drunk" after Tiger hit a tee shot they would have been removed (hell, Tiger's old caddy once chunked a photographer's camera in a lake, and probably still holds the record for having disruptive fans removed).
And again, they were cheering on Finau, not mocking him.

The 16th at the WMO, well, that's entirely different. I don't know why you'd even compare it.

I asked a question about Bryson playing at WMPO, sure the 16th is crazy, but the 15th, 17th, and 18th are all pretty crazy too, no chance he doesn't get heckled there.

The Fowler and Finau thing was a joke/sarcasm which obviously does not translate on forums very well.  The information provided was to point out that more than likely the fans there from 15 onward would chant Brooksie constantly.  If it is still a thing and Bryson plays the tourney.  No chance anyone gets thrown out when there are that many people around those four finishing holes.

What’s the point though ?  He should just live with it for every event because they purposely encourage behavior at waste management that would get you arrested on the side of the street in most towns ?

maybe he plays Phoenix. Maybe he doesn’t.  Doesn’t make their behavior ok in public  because exceptions get made that week.

Also interesting. Apparently jordan gave Bryson his take on fans ....

id call this the tiger 1.0 approach.  Pretend they don’t exist . Give them what they deserve- nothing.  ( my opinion. Not a jordan quote exactly )
