Best BMW PGA Tournament ‘experience’ day ?

My increasingly golf mad son is 21 this year. And has never been to a big Tournament.

 

Just noticed I have a few days off around the start of the BMW PGA at Wentworth in September.

 

So: do we go Wednesday on Pro-am day: less crowd, relaxed atmosphere, celebrities playing, closer to the action 🤷‍♂️ Etc…..

 

Or Thursday and the first day of the Tournament proper ?

 

Whats likely the best overall ‘experience’ ?

Go Thursday or Friday. See the full field. Enjoy.

If you want to get close go Thursday Friday and avoid big names. There will be good golf all over the course but the crowds will follow the bigger names. Don't go on a practice day because you don't know who will actually be playing. Finally go to the range and watch players warm up. Its pretty impressive to watch everyone and you can get a good view of what they are doing.

Yep go thursday or friday,  Check the tee times prior and park at a tee box or a green and watch half or most of the field come through, then go somewhere else or pick a couple groups and follow them around.  The practice range is a good watch too as said above.  Bring a good set of Binoculars...it makes for fun viewing from less crowded places.

Go on Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesdays are awesome because it's less crowded, more relaxed, and it's all big names playing in the pro am. You can get pics with players, watch them all at the range, or whatever. Then go the next day and do the tournament round.

Lots of good advice so far. My answer is the same, but I guess it depends on what you want out of the day;

 

 If you want autographs, selfies and to get some interaction with the players on course, go for the pro-am. If you want to see the players in tournament mode (and there is a difference) go Thursday because everyone starts level.

 

If your son is interested in watching their striking, definitely spend some time on the range. On the course, avoid following the marquee groups, you'll spend more time trying to find a decent vantage point than you will watching the golf.

 

Another thing you might want to consider is going to the Cazoo Classic at the London Golf Club on the 12-15 August instead. It probably won't be as busy, the London GC is a bit more open for spectating and it will be cheaper to get in. Sure the bigger names won't be there, but any tour player is worth watching in my opinion.

Thursday if you want to watch real golf.  Plus you get to see the full field.

 

If you want to see garbage golf, by all means the pro-am is the way to go.  I can't think of a better way to see self-entitled people with more money than they know what to do with, buy their way onto the golf course.
