I understand how you feel.  In your case, I would suggest it might be a shaft issue.  I know people love them, but it doesn't feel good in my hands either.  I considering ditching my hybrid 4 and going back to a 4 iron.  Some people love their hybrids.  I wish I did.

Yeah, I wish I loved Hybrids too. They make a lot of sense in theory, but for whatever reason they just don’t work for me. We’ll see…not getting much interest in my Srixon Z H85, so maybe I’ll try some of the tips I’ve gotten on this thread and give it some more time.

That is me currently.  Picked up a 818h 18deg and it was a monster all last year from the fairway or the tee, perfect club between 4i and 3 wood.  Now I can't hit it.  I think I have 1 solid tee shot with it, and 1 from the fairway all year.  My current miss with it is everything... I don't get it.  I've been thinking about picking up a 5 wood to match my 3 wood and start down that path.  But we had such good times together and I feel like I'm cheating on my true love

Strange indeed. I have that same wonky stick me thinks. A Titleist 818 H2. I felt like a boss hitting that dime piece with a nice tight draw. It’s clearly not you, her love has strayed on both of us.

i've grown to love them but it took years and years.  I now carry 2 sometimes but both have much shorter shafts than standard, more loft, and heavier swingweights.  my 'rough club' is 23 degrees and has the same 130g shaft as my 4 iron and I have it as upright as it will go but still doesn't go left.  its only in the bag when the rough is deep and thick.

With a stock hybrid at 19 degrees I could never get it out of the rough.  the shaft was too long and the lie was too flat.

I think one of the major issue with hybrid is the lack of proper fitting.

Most of the fitters do not have to parts/tools for hybrid fitting and most often it is just trying out the stock custom options of the OEMs.

I would try reshafting that Z H85 with the same shaft you have in your irons.  Keep the length no more than 1/2" longer than the equivalent iron, preferably the same length.  I have a set of 915H with steel shafts and they are really easy to hit.  Maybe give that a go before ditching the hybrids completely.  At least it will be a cheap experiment.  After all, hybrids are meant to replace long irons, so shouldn't they be close to the same length?  I don't know why in the hell OEMs make them so long.  Well, I do know (for more distance, when you can actually middle the damn things), but it's a stupid reason.

Only hybrids I ever hit well we're the big Bertha's circa 2015.  As I got more speed I looked to driving irons.

Ended up selling them and Have since never found a hybrid that works for me.

I now play a 3 wood, 5 wood, and a driving iron. Don't miss them now, but there was definitely a moment in there where I did.

I have had a really weird experience with my 5 hybrid (Costco Callaway Edge set).  I'm "returning" to the game at 42 after 25+years away.  I never played seriously as a teen, but we played probably once a week every summer back then.  When I started back up in May, I sliced the crap out of almost everything, just like when I was a kid.  The 5 hybrid was the closest thing I hit to straight, usually a mild fade.  After a lesson at the nearby TPC course, my driver, 3 wood, and long irons are much much straighter, and now I'm hooking or drawing the 5 hybrid, with the occasional straight shot.  I've never hooked or drawn any club ever before, so this is kind of funny.  I also tend to top that club way more often than I top any other club.  So far, it's been a bit of a mystery to hit it true.  But when I do, it FLIES.  Just with I had an actual 5-iron from a similar line of clubs to compare it against, since I know they never made this particular set with one.

Is anyone else just totally done with trying to use Hybrids? I tried to make it work with a Callaway Rogue Hybrid 4 (20*) last season and just couldn’t make it work. This season I’ve been trying a Srixon Z H85 Hybrid 3 (19*), and I’m fed up.

I’m Ok hitting them off the Tee, but they are way shorter for me than a 3-Wood, Driving Iron, or 4-iron, and anytime I hit them off the deck it’s always a power fade/slice.

I understand that lots of people love them and swear by them, but it’s an experiment that just isn’t working for me.

Maybe it’s because I’m a sweeper, or maybe it’s that I’m 6’7? Maybe it’s a shaft issue? I don’t know, but whatever it is I feel like giving up on Hybrids.

Sorry for venting…just exhausted with trying to make them work!

I also never had any success with hybrids and tried several. Instead l used a Titleist 904F 22* wood that was magic in my hands. Of course I sold the Titleist 7wood in a weak moment wanting a new and shiny modern club in that spot. Have not yet find a replacement for that magic wand but l just recieved a Mizuno JPX Fli-hi 5h and l like that it has a shorter shaft at stock lenght. Now l cross my fingers and hope this 5h will work, but l still dream of my old 7W…

Sounds like a beauty! Yeah, I've made the mistake of selling clubs that were working great to chase the next best thing too...sucks!!

I'm starting to consider a Fairway Wood in that 19*-22* too...now the only problem is that I can't find any new or used that don't have Senior or Ladies Flex shafts.

For sure, Golf is probably 95% mental. For me though, my Hybrid distance most times is shorter than my 4 or 5 iron distance. If I end up hitting slices that go the same distance as my 6 or 7 iron, that’s more than just mental.

Oh, I see the problem here. Golf is actually 98% mental. Once you wrap your head around that, you’ll be hitting driver off the deck with ease

This is actually good IMO because when you reshaft with an iron weight shaft or heavier graphite those heads will be lighter which will end up being better as far as swingweight is concerned.  if the head was made for an 70 gram shaft and you put 100g in there then you'll feel like you are swinging a sledge hammer.

yes, exactly. its an iron replacement but they want to put a fairway wood length shaft in there so people hit them further.  I want an iron replacement to go the same distance as the iron its replacing.  in order to do so I find you need a degree more loft and the same shaft length.

My hybrid is a Adam Ti 20*.  Oldest club it the bag.  It's not what I think of as a scoring club, and could probably replace it with a 7w or 3i without any change to my score.   It has been my club of choice if im in the trees from 100-200 out and need to keep a shot very low to roll up on the green (or get close enough to scramble).

I've had great luck with steel shafts in Titleists. Even shimmed some taper tip DG iron shafts into some 915H hybrids and had no problems.  It's definitely all about the prep work and good epoxy. But dimpling the shaft tips ain't a bad idea either. Mizuno does it on steel iron shafts to this day, AFAIK.

Alright, you guys talked me into giving my Hybrid another chance. So I’m going to try a little experiment. Going to put an Aldila Tour Blue that I have in my Srixon Z 565 4-iron into my H85 Hybrid, and will put an N.S. Pro Modus 120 in the Z 565.

I’ve had more success with Aldila shafts then PX Hzrdus Black, so maybe the shaft change will help to get the Hybrid going straight rather than the slices/power fade. I also had issues with a Hzrdus Black in my last Driver, so will try the new shaft before giving up on the Hybrid.

I’m also trying this because I listed my Hybrid for sale this week and haven’t gotten any interest, and also because it looks like 19*-21* Fairway Woods are very hard to find in my area, both new and used.

I'm guessing you are in Canada?

Funny how different we all are.  I find hybrids to be really versatile, and easier to hit than either long irons or fairway woods.  I carry 16* and 20* "fairway wood-like" hybrids, and 23* and 26* "iron-like" hybrids.  No fairway woods, and my first iron is my 6.

It shouldn't surprise anyone that it takes some experimentation to find clubs that we can hit consistently well at the long end of our bags. Long clubs are inherently harder to hit, and emphasize our swing idiosyncrasies ("flaws"). Fortunately the category goes all the way from "almost fairway woods" to "almost irons." So thinking "I just can't hit hybrids" really makes no sense.

I definitely suggest experimenting with hybrids with shorter, heavier shafts (same shafts as the irons they replace, or perhaps 10g lighter and 1/2" longer).   Long, light shafts that can produce maximum distance don't necessarily result in consistent swings for many of us.
