What's the best platform to sell your pre-owned golf clubs?

i list on here but after 48 hours it goes to ebay.

the current system or setup on the bst makes it too easy to get lost in the mix. people selling 9 items with 8 items already being sold makes it difficult to buy when searches routinely return ads for items that are already sold.

I just sold my Apex 19 irons and a few other clubs to PGA Value Guide.. The irons were a couple of years old with probably 150+ rounds on them. They paid a total of $541 for the irons (5-GW, elevate shafts) including a 10% price matching bonus (matching 2nd Swing), free shipping and responsive customer service. I don't know how much I may have left on the table compared to other options, but it was worth it to me for the ease of the transaction. I don't do this regularly (not enough posts here...yet) but I was happy overall with the experience and pricing.

Makes sense.

Another idea would be to have the pro facilitate adult members giving clubs to juniors, maybe with some sort of incentive for the adult member.

Awesome idea!

Right.

I just assume all the current BST rules are in place for a reason and have hopefully developed over time to help keep spam and fraud to a minimum. But for all the rules that exist now, there a few that could make it that much better.

For instance, I think you should have to include the items for sale in your title. None of this "My wife found my gear stash..." teaser stuff. Tell us what you've got so we don't have to click to find out.

If you're listing shoes or clothes, the sizes or size range should be in the title IMO. Don't make everyone dig into the thread to see if the shoes are the size they need.

Pretty simple, IMO.

The Bay for me. I have sold on there for 15 years and have had no issues. Fees are what they are but I have sold $30 clubs to $300 drivers to $500-600 iron sets. My suggestion is to take good pictures and to be honest with the condition. I have 100% positive feedback and have had zero issues with a customer complaining about condition.  About 5 times a buyer has taken back the sale which is no biggie I just relist. I am just so used to using it and it is so easy to list an item. Just my 2 cents.

I use the Bay mostly but also trade in at global golf and 3 balls when they run specials like +20% value.  On some clubs you can get pretty close to resale value especially when the clubs aren't in great shape.

You'd be surprised.  I sold a ton of lower end or older stuff on local marketplace. Lots of new golfers out there looking for equipment

I won't mess with craigslist and Facebook marketplace, but I unload everything ebay. It's just too crappy for WRX BST is all I'm saying.

FB is a last resort for me. Too many fees and now with FB and paypal reporting everything over $600 it's a mess at tax time if you have some for profit sales and some not.

The local off-course retail store offers trade in based on PGA Value Guide pricing which is helpful, but they only let you trade clubs against clubs. They don't give you a store credit, IIRC.

I did the sale through the PGA Value Guide site. The customer service person I dealt with had an email address from "gvcommerce.com". At that time, The VG had a 15% bonus plus same offer for straight sale or trade (usually cash prices are less). In addition they have a policy to match prices with other trade in sites (in this case 2nd Swing). They not only match but add a 10% bonus to the match! On some of my clubs PGA had the best price, but 2nd Swing had the best price for the Apex irons (by about $100 for 7 clubs). I sent them my clubs and had a check for the agreed amount within about 3 weeks. Seamless process and would do it again rather than dealing with EBay etc.

Agree with this guy, but I usually wait 72 hours - once you hit the third or fourth page on the BST, the odds of you selling your stuff goes way down. The way the search engine works here doesn't make it a whole lot easier.

Can usually sell for more on eBay, but it ends up being a wash with the way fees work. I prefer BST because I'm always considering trades and want to get things sold quickly (for the next purchase), which are things that eBay doesn't offer.

I'm a little curious about the price matching.  I just sent them some irons and they will be sending me about $650 including the 15% bonus they have right now.  Callaway pre-owned had a trade in for the same irons for $670.  I wanted cash so I sent them to PGA value guide.  Are you saying that they would have matched the $670 from Callaway plus an extra 10%?  Too late for the clubs I just sent in, but good to know for the future.  I don't see anything about price matching on their website.

Yes I believe they would have matched plus 10% unless the CPO value was only good in a trade for Callaway clubs like the 50% bonus Callaway had recently if you traded your old driver for a new Epic Speed.

I don’t recall where I first saw the price matching policy (match +10%) but I called them and confirmed it’s a policy they’ve had for awhile. I was told to include proof of the higher price by printing out the page from the other site and putting it in the box with the clubs.

I also emailed a pdf of the proof to the customer service person I’d spoken with. He explained that when they received my clubs they confirm the price on the other site to make sure it’s an apples to apples match and then process the payment. He said it would take 3-4 weeks. I had the check in about 4 weeks. If they haven’t processed your clubs yet you should call and ask for the bonus. The worst they can say is that it’s too late.

PGA VG did have the best price on some

of the clubs I sold them so no bonus on those. I’m happy to send you my guy’s info if you’d like. His title was “Pre-owned Procurement Manager”.
