Garmin Approach R10 Portable Golf Launch Monitor

I noticed pre sale listings for a new Garmin Approach R10 Portable Launch Monitor. Garmin released the following video today stating that the monitor will capture ball speed, swing speed, club path, launch angle, and ball spin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcznV_SyTc8

 

Has anyone heard about or tested this monitor?

Their website lists club path and face angle under reported stats. I don’t know if it interpolates that data from something else, but that’s Trackman level if it actually measures it.

Lol, I was just about to post about this too.  Their website says those are radar based metrics....  Is this the trackman substitute we've been waiting for?

Open for pre order in Europe. Looks impressive enough, stats, built in camera etc. camera shot looks as good as the crappy trackman one at least outdoors. , but need side by side comparison really.

Yep same here! Just saw it in the Golf Simulator group on Facebook. If anywhere near as advertised, it's a game changer at that price.

I'm starting to temper my expectations.  Radar based launch data at the price is going to be great, and I bet they'll sell like crazy.  The unit still needs to be set back 8 feet or so, which is difficult for tight setups.  They have a $100 a year software subscription that looks fun and allows for play on local courses, but the graphics don't wow me.  Per their website, they're expecting rapsodo/skytrak accuracy, which is plenty good enough for most people, but with radar based club data, it will have an edge over everything in it's price range (shy of GCQuad or Trackman).  In terms of true simulator use, it looks like you only have E6 which is way more expensive than The Golf Club and not as good imo.  I think it's going to best rapsodo easily, but skytrak with the golf club will still be more attractive to a lot of people.  But again, the price point is really good.  I have skytrak and I'm still intrigued...

It's not explicitly stated on the site or in any other review etc., I've read.  Since it's based on radar, it very well could measure all of the metrics it says it does, but I too would like to be assured.

This could be a huge seller if it compares favorably to the Rapsodo, Mevo, and Skytrak, in terms of accuracy. It has a terrific offering of parameters. 

 

I wonder if Garmin is getting out of the handheld golf GPS business. So many are moving solely toward smart phone integration.

It was an exciting product until you realize Spin Rate/Spin Axis are calculated instead of measured. Still has the potential to be a good for the price.. but is no longer game-changing like I thought it could be. Shame!

If they can really measure club path and lateral ball flight, the calculation could be pretty meaningful.

What do people think of the accuracy numbers?  It's great that they're publishing them of course but... +/- 5 yards for carry distance doesn't seem that great.

I wonder why there is still only one YouTube review up. Usually when the embargo lifts, everyone is trying to be the first to review a new product. I’m sure Garmin just didn’t sent an early unit to one guy. Maybe I’m just being impatient.

I too think this is alittle strange...especially as the only YT'er has such a small following....would have thought that some of the 'big boys' would have had it especially as it is potentially such a well priced product 

 

I got my pre-order in with american Golf ( UK ) about 30 min before they threw up the sold out stock notice....i've also ordered one with snainton golf just in case I've paid AG but it isn't actually within their stock allocation

 

looking forward to this as I was about to pull the trigger on a mevo+ today then I saw this thread on golfwrx !

no - just ordered online.....they took my money so I'm hoping that atleast one of them is doing this based off of their expected stock allocation for release day and not just a money grab
