Anyone Played Hunt Valley Golf Club - Baltimore County?

I've got a round scheduled there in the next couple of weeks. Checked it out on Google Maps and have scoured the interwebs for a reliable scorecard/yardages/routing, but can't find much.

My impression is relatively short, hilly, and brutal greens. All the par 5's seem to be guarded by water or ravines. Am I anywhere close to correct?

Any advice or comments on the course are certainly welcome!

I think your assessment is fairly accurate. The club has three nines, but I think they closed the Blue nine down some time ago. The existing Red and White nines are a fun combo, and I remember the greens were always firm and fast.

How was it when you played? I was up there today, house shopping in that immediate area and although it seemed like it's a little burnt out right now, it might be hard to justify retaining a membership a half hour away when I could almost walk to their range.

I actually really enjoyed it. Overall the club is nice, but clearly a "golf club" rather than "country club." If I had the cash and inclination, I would certainly consider joining.

The course is a nice mixture of challenge and accessibility. No too long, but you really have to think your way around it a bit. The course is split between some holes up on the hill - so lots of elevation change - and then some flatter holes down in the valley. I enjoyed the variety. Distances really threw me out there, however. I think local knowledge is important to playing it well.

It certainly isn't a "super-posh" course or club. Course conditioning was good, not exceptional - I would compare it to a higher end muni in that respect - but certainly playable and fun.

I didn't see much of the clubhouse, but the dining area is nice and post-round drinks/appetizers were very competent.

So, for all of that, I would give it my seal of approval. Hopefully I can get out there again sometime and improve on the mid-80's round I had first time around.
