RDX Blue 6.0 vs. 6.5

Freddie

Recommended Posts

I am hoping to hear WRX experiences between the RDX Blue 6.0 and 6.5 in dispersion and ball flight and if the 6.5 “feels” any different than the 6.0.  I currently play the 6.0 in the SIM2 Max and love the feel but dispersion not as tight as the Smoke Black and I tend to lose it high right.  When I hit it well it has a mid/high trajectory, is long and feels stable but smooth; I REALLY like the feel.  Wondering if the 6.5 RDX Blue would tighten dispersion and lower the flight(??).  For comparison, the Smoke Black dispersion is much better with a smooth feel and good distance, but a little less kick.  I tried the RDX Black, thinking it would be similar to the Smoke Black and somehow "better". I personally didn't like the feeling of the RDX Black; not as smooth as the Smoke Black and not as long (for me and my 100mph SS).  So, I’m gaming the Smoke Black but I'm curious if the 6.5 RDX Blue would tighten the dispersion and lower the trajectory while maintaining the great feel.  Any thoughts are appreciated!

Not going to be much help to you since I felt the RDX Black was easily smoother than Smoke Black. I had 6.0 in Smoke and went 6.5 in RDX in driver and I'm really not an X-Stiff guy consistently. Just goes to show you how people feel different things.

Interesting.  My dispersion with the RDX Black was generally good and similar to the Smoke Black but didn't feel as smooth to me for some reason and not as long.  I'd love to able to replicate the feeling of the RDX Blue with the dispersion of the Smoke Black; hence wondering if the 6.5 would tighten it up compared to the 6.0 and if others have compared the 2 flexes.

I would be interested too.  I am toying with trying the RDX Blue in a Sim 2 (maybe even the RADspeed), and don't know if it should be the 6.0 or 6.5.  I feel I am always one of those people who falls right between the S and X range.  I can play either depending on the shaft and how I'm swinging.  I've been playing a Ping 410/now 425 with the stock CK orange shaft for a couple of years in X, but play stiff in FW and irons. One of my favorite shafts was a stock Cobra Matrix Red shaft I had got in a Bio Cell Pro, I got it in an X, but it certainly was a "soft" X, the stock stiff felt like a noodle to me.   I feel the RDX Blue might be more along these lines....

I also have an older GD DI7X in an M2, but I have to go all out to really load that shaft, it really probably is to much for me.  But when I'm warmed up and swinging good, I can hit some major bombs with it, but if I try to put a smooth swing on it I don't load it and it kind of goes nowhere.....

RDX Blue 6.5 IMO is weak to flex for sure. I got one with my CObra driver and it has lasted 3 rounds. I am going back to my V Blue, will be on BST today...

I know TT says the PX shafts are the real deal for OEMs, but the Cobra website for the RADSpeed shows the specs for its RDX Blue as having a torque of 3.5 for the 6.5 and 4.0 for the 6.0 flex, and weight as 64g and 62.5g.   True Temper's website shows the torque of the 6.5 AND the 6.0 as 3.4, and both with a weight of 64, TaylorMade shows the torque of the RDX blue they offer in the Sim 2 as 3.4 in both 6.0 and 6.5.   I think the Cobra shaft is tweaked soft.  I had a BioCell Pro years ago with the stock OZIK Redtie, and I would say the same thing, the stock S was really soft, I had an X and it certainly was soft for an X as I had hit a real deal Redtie in an X and it was pretty stout in comparison.

I have an aftermarket RDX Blue from JD's clubs and it feels soft, imo. And thats compared to a Ventus Blue w/Velocore, same weight and flex.

My RDX Blue 6.0 feels true to flex and stable to me but def has a nice kick to it, which I guess is due to the dramatic soft mid section.  Definitely heavier than the Smoke Black in my hands as well, even tho it's only an ~6g difference and counterbalanced; I can feel the difference.  The weight of the Smoke Black feels better overall to me but I feel I get a better kick out of the Blue with more distance when I put a good swing on it.  Just wondering if the 6.5 Blue would tighten the dispersion for me and if anyone has tested the 6.0 and 6.5 side by side...

Not a direct answer to your question but rather my impression of the RDX Black and Blue. Was fit for the RDX Blue 6.5 70 in my new fairway and it's great, easy launching and smooth, more of a "swinger's" shaft than "hitter" I'd say. My swing speed with 3w is normally 106-108. For what it's worth the Cobra Big tour with Rdx Blue is a sweet baby draw combo for me, just how I want it. Didn't test 6.0 during fitting, fitter gave me the 6.5 immediately after seeing my baseline numbers.

With my driver I like to be more aggressive and prefer a more linear profile, tested the SIM2 with Rdx Black 6.0 70 (only stiff combo available in warehouse for testing) and it's holding up great. Would be happy to walk out with that off-the-rack combo. Swing speed 113-115.

Summary the RDX Blue feels like it would play a bit softer, atleast when compared to the RDX Black.

My 2 cents on the 6.0 70 in a 3 wood.  I did pick up a Sim 2 MAX 3 wood a couple of weeks ago with this shaft.  My previous 3 wood was an 410 LST with the CK Orange 70 stiff, which I have pretty much liked a lot.  I would say the RDX blue 70 6.0 plays as stiff if not more so than my CK Orange stiff.  Stock weight between the 2 are the same 75g, torque is noticeably lower in the Blue from the stiffer tip, but doesn't feel harsh at all,  but very smooth.  The way I launch the two clubs is very different, the LST head is lower spin and launch, the Sim 2 Max launches noticeably  higher, but carry is further, so they sort of go about the same in total depending on roll, but I think I like the way the Sim 2 carries more, plus I seem to be able to work it better.   I was all set to go get a Sim 2 9.0 driver with a Blue 6.0 60 from my local shop that had one in stock, the day I went to get it, they sold it that morning.  They have one in their system at another store so I told them to have them ship it here, will have it next week. I am leaning on the hope that it won't be too soft, they "waggle test" I have done seemed like it was not a soft shaft, but we shall see.
