It wasn't a concern with those either, they supplied their own illumination sources.

That’s interesting. ‘Core consumer’ and off course golf segment is very different language to their marketing of launch monitor for all. This new language very much screams ‘overpriced’ or at least professionally priced, the 3k seems a more likely price based on this language. They could do with letting their marketing department know.

And I guess 80% of the features for a fraction of a the price the pros pay could fit 3k also.

If there's one thing we should ALL be ready for is that RRP isn't what you'll pay.

 

Sure, it's 2999, but sales tax, subscriptions, add-ons, courses… Nothing costs what they say it costs.

 

One thing I don't miss about the US is how they never include sales tax in the price. They can't because of all the differing rates, but it never feels right.

What will be interesting to me as a happy MEVO+ owner is what to expect in response from Flightscope.  I have to believe they kept club/path locked for this possibility.  If the rumors on the Launch Pro are true, FS can react to whatever is done with Range Pro without losing much money.  But, they're still going to have to deal with X3 customers if MEVO+ gets upgraded.

Flightscope is in quite a weird position at the moment with this huge gap in price and functionality between the Mevo+ and X3, and they don't seem to be making anything anymore (or at least advertising/promoting anything) in the middle.

 

I'm guessing that a part of the problem is that even many pro's only buy the high end launch monitors to have face/path and don't understand or aren't really interested in all the other variables e.g. D-Plane, VSP, HSP etc. As soon as something on the low(er) end offers face/path accurately then poof goes the high end market.

 

Having said that, it definitely makes sense for companies to have as much capability as possible in the hardware so that they can unlock it in future if the market / competition demands it. Flightscope has been very cagey re. whether the Mevo+ is actually capable of face/path (I've watched all their Mevo+ webinars and this question comes up often) and responses have varied from (paraphrasing): "no it isn't", "we're looking into it, watch this space" and "not at the moment".

This is just my own opinion, and it doesn't stop with launch monitors. I find it immoral to ship hardware that's disabled. Software is bits, and that's different. But making something that has a capability intentionally locked away seems like a waste for the sake of waste.

 

Maybe that's just me, but there's enough e-waste. No sense in it never being used waste.

If its truly a capability there are some pretty good hackers out there and someone surely would have figured out how to jail break it by now.  Pretty sure there aren't any tutorials out there on how to do it.

As long as it can be hacked to run TGC 2019 and has club data, who cares. TGC is better than FSX anyways.

3k is what the FSX software is on the Foressight website. I wonder if/hope they will have a "lite" version of the software for this model. Perhaps not though, as from what I understand they use the same software on GC2 + HMT

Is software required to use the device? What exactly does the software include? For example, is it just a graphics pack with courses and the range, or is it needed to view stats etc? What does the device do on it's own?

That's just how it's listed on their site now. I imagine that it's going to come with a driving range, and something like a $50/mo sub or some such nonsense… similar to skytrak… if you want to play indoor golf.

3k with a driving range is probably about what I could ‘justify’ to myself. (Assuming it’s a straight £ to $ swap as these products often are). 

 

Simulator golf doesn’t appeal to me enough to justify the cost of the fsx but club data and a range for ball flight Is what I want so will find a way to sneak this past the boss. 
 

currently waiting on my r10 that should tide me over.

This is no bueno.  If we're talking 6k total to get some home sim software, I might as well just save up for a Uneekor.  SAme ballpark.  Bushnell/Foresight have to do better.

I don't personally understand wanting to pay anything for Sim golf... the few times I've tried it, it's nothing like golf golf. No rough, straight through trees, blast it anywhere, all lies dead flat, no mud on the ball..... what's the point?
