Bushnell Launch Pro Device with Foresight

Yet, here we are.   (The earth is flat, the earth is flat...  Foresight's more accurate... Foresight's more accurate... Can't be disputed... Can't be disputed...  There's no place like home...  There's no place like home...)

Games - is your argument really that Mevo+ is the equal accuracy wise to GC Quad and GC3? Spin numbers and its impact on carry distances. Radar vs camera. Really?

Regardless of the accuracy in spin and spin axis, people will chose FlightScope because of the free 5 courses and $2K price.  If Mevo + wants to compete and retain some of their customers, they better turn on some club data. Maybe someone who works for them will read this and take notes....Games?

You can't put a Skytrak on the same level as both of the Foresight units that are available.  That's a $2,000 unit against $5,000 and $12,000 ones

Everybody gets that. The point is just that it’s worth the increased cost to some people to have a reliably accurate machine and not worth it to pay thousands for a machine that is not always accurate, even if it’s thousands less than the nearly-always accurate machine.

Personally, I’d rather just hit into a net than use a monitor I can’t reasonably trust. That’s why this device is the one me and a lot of people I know are following so fervently.

But if many people are finding the skytrak and Mevo+ accurate enough for their purposes, great. It’s just not what I want out of a monitor.

I'm just as interested in the Launch Pro / GC3 as others here are.  But, when false comments are made about MEVO+ being inaccurate or less accurate than the Foresight products I've used, I'm going to respond in kind, with my own experience.

I understand my participation in this thread is inconvenient for some and uncomfortable for others.  Yet, it is relevant to debunking false blanket statements being made by a few, in hopes it helps potential purchasers make informed decisions regarding the Launch Pro, GC3 and current offerings.

Thanks your YOUR consideration...

When I get the unit, I will test both units against one another and will report back an unbiased comparison.

I was an early adopter of OG MEVO and MEVO+.  Not a FS rep, just a very satisfied customer.  I've hit both of my FS consumer units next to Trackman and GC2.  No more missed shots or mis-reads than the units I was hitting with.

I'm a quant and skeptic, by nature.  So, when something has passed my smell test, I question the motives and experience of those quick to make blanket statements that conflict with my personal experience.

I am fascinated by those trying to clear the path for the LP/GC3 by lumping MEVO+ in with the R10 and Optishots of the world.

Anyone doing that is just embarrassing themselves...

I have to tested the unit extensively against TM3 & GC2 but did find spin issues indoors. I provided them so much data that Henry sent me a personal video about it.

For the average joe, it is a good unit to start with. For someone that wants to get back to single digit-it's not enough information for me. Thus why I am most likely going with GC3. I would also consider the EYEXO but I can't install in my garage.

Just spoke with someone from Bushnell HQ. Confirmed 3k price. Will include only club speed. $800 per year will get you courses (don't know how many) and more data (don't know what club data).

Only club speed or basic data like club and ball speed, carry, total and smash?

They’re going to sell an absurd number of these.

Yeah can’t be just club data. Probably just club head speed as only club related data. That’s good enough for me. Make range free and subscription for courses, I’m golden. $90/mo for unlimited golf! Id rather have that then joining a club with a bunch of slow paced fart sniffers.

At 3k they won't in real terms.

As I said previously I don't know a single person in the real world who owns any launch monitor other than myself. Until a sufficiently accurate device is available in the $500 range >99.9% of golfers will not be interested. They are still targeting a tiny niche with this pricing no matter how impressive a device it is. There are tens of millions of golfers worldwide and this will sell in the thousands...

Well no kidding - it’s a niche part of a niche sport. I don’t expect this to sell like an iPhone.

I guess should’ve added - although I thought it was obvious - an absurd number of units relative to this market/what’s been done in this part of this market up to this point.

With the GCQuad, once you have unlocked data and own a course(s) is there an additional subscription?  I understand there are periodic paid updates to FSX, but are you required to keep a subscription active for anything else?

If an unlocked GC3 is $7000 w/o a subscription, some courses, and additional courses ala cart, you are looking at a 5 year break even vs a BLP + $800/year subscription.

My choice would be to try to figure out a means to get 0% financing and purchase an unlocked GC3 vs paying each year for the privilege to barrow the additional features for a device I own.

Edit: Or just wait for a "jailbroken" BLP 😉

Id rather pay $5k for a fully unlocked GC3 no software and run GSPro. Probably won’t be an option though. I just hate FSX

I’m sure he means all ball data plus only one club data point - club head speed. Curious if there’s a basic range software unlocked at the base price.

Which stinks. I don’t need a home simulator. I want something reasonably affordable that will give me AOA and Path. I can determine most ball data by looking at the flight and distance.

Depends on the details but I think that pricing would put me out of one. I don't like the idea of having a paperweight if I don't want to pay a yearly fee.

I'd reconsider if the 3k included range and a handful of courses to play like a mevo+. But for me, I'd only pay 2500 for mevo and some software over 5 years vs 7k for this unit.

So I'm curious where we all stand right now on who is buying what or sitting out, so I wanted to create a poll to find out.  Options I listed are simply based on the latest news you guys have provided here.

I will admit I added the 2nd option of $3k including a couple courses simply as wishful thinking.  Probably should have left that option out to make it more accurate.  oh well.

The most interesting aspect of the Bushnell acquisition of Foresight is the prospective changes to the business model. GC2 and GCQuad were niche products that were unlikely to go main stream due to the prohibitive cost. Foresight was a profitable company (full year net sales and adjusted EBITDA are expected to be approximately $100 million and $50 million). And they had a large markup on their hardware.

With a lower cost product, this becomes a direct competitor with Mevo + and SkyTrak. And Bushnell will be able to leverage their existing distribution network to make this a mass market product. Might be worthwhile buying VSTO stock rather than the launch pro.

Perspective from a golfer living with harsh winters.  I want a launch monitor that I can set up in a garage for 4 months of winter to keep sharp and play sim golf.  Putting aside the cost of the unit, $800 is a steep annual fee.  I can go to my local indoor golf establishment and play 40 hours of sim/practice for $800 with a $20k+ simulator.  In addition, I don't need to buy netting, screen, projector, ipad/PC and anything else.  It's a no-brainer for me; I will rent simulator time for the next year or two and await further developments.

No doubt, but it would be nice to see some that have been produced  in the hands of reviewers.  Like Foresight and Garmin have done.

I agree, apparently they are in the hands of a lot of touring pros for testing.  Who knows.  I’m looking forward to seeing it when it launches.  I have a memo+ in my sim at home and i think its somewhat accurate but if this has club data I’m in at that price.

We will definitely see more of these practice facilities open up worldwide. I believe part of the new ownership will be to expand the Total Range TM in hitting bays at golf courses and driving ranges.  The only benefit of owning a LM is the convenience to use at home any time you would like.

I think a lot of newbies will be shocked of the costs associated with having setup at home.

Minimum set up would be 1) Nice 4x5' mat ($350), 2) net (Spornia SP-7; $250), 3) iPad (midrange; $500), 4)iPad stand ($30). Max cost is $1130, but most will have at least some of these.  An older spare computer might work, or at most will need a new graphics card. In my case, I have everything but the net, so additional cost is minimal.  If the launch monitor is reasonably priced, a budget setup is within reach of everyone.  For garage set ups, still approach has the benefit of being easy to set up and take down.
