Drive an hour to play The European Club or 15 minutes to play The Island?

Slight change of plans for our trip since Aer Lingus cancelled flights to Shannon. We have another day to play while we’re in Dublin. Those who have played both, would you drive an hour to play The European Club, or 15 minutes to play The Island?

Personally speaking, The Euro Club. While I liked The Island and TEC is more difficult, I think TEC is a bit more varied and interesting. But both are good.

That's tough!  I've played both dozens of times and love them both.  What I will say, is the European club, as Chance noted, is more varied..I say nuanced, and some people may not like it because it is a tough and rugged course, but it has an isolated feel and pureness about it.  It is a course you do need to play multiple times to get the most/best out of it. And, if available there are 2 bonus holes. The Island, has super holes, nice views and a 'fun' feel/vibe.  It's hard to not feel good as your playing the course.  I really enjoy every shot I take.  

 

So I would base the decision on which of those you prefer - great golf/pure fun or a great golf/bit of a grind.

For mine, The Island hands down. Its a more natural links than TEC...that design seems forced to add unnecessary difficulty. The Island is plenty tough anyway. Plus, saving 1.5 of drive time is a winning formula. I hate windshield time on holiday.

It’s the island without a doubt. I’d also question the driving time, if 15 mins from the island you are more than an hour from the European unless very early in the morning.

Just making sure you didn’t forget to reserve the great weather you are having for when we hopefully get there the end of Sept…..

weather actually broke yesterday with thunderstorms around lahinch, the south of Ireland amateur championship is on there currently and had to be delayed for 4 hours. Which is pretty much unheard of. Back lovely again today.
