Left Hand Low (Cross Handed) Overlap

For those who putt cross-handed, do you overlap your right hand or left? Or neither (10 finger)?

I recently switched from that method to overlapping my left pinky over my right index. I just switched to a deep etched Odyssey pistol grip (the gray rubber one)  and it feels nice having all 5 fingers of my right hand on the end of the grip.

I just switched to a crosshand grip. I had tried it off and on for at least 20 years but never stuck with it until I went to a round grip. I typically pull short putts but not anymore.

 

I overlap the left pinky finger over the right index, it feels very comfortable.

I recently played an intra-club match against a young man (23) who has putted cross handed since very early in his golfing life. He’s a scratch player and certainly could roll his ball. His left hand covered about 80% of his right hand which is the most extreme overlap I’d seen. After our match we talked briefly and he told me hockey was his first love as a child and he shot left handed, so the left hand low came naturally when putting. He tried putting left handed but his poor results quickly led him to putting right handed with his left hand low.

When I was putting left hand low I went back and forth on this a lot.  I liked the feel of all my fingers of my right hand on the putter.  When I was putting well with minimal pressure it worked great and led to very confident strokes.  However, it did get my right hand very involved in the stroke, which I was trying to get away from by going to cross handed in the first place (my right hand tends to be overly involved in my putting stroke).  When pressure was added or I was having a bad day putting, I would run into trouble.  This may be a very personal thing, as I obviously have issues with my right hand that others may not have.  The overlap grip (right index) helped keep my hands connected and working together.  Ymmv

So today I was practicing with ten fingers before my round and it felt great- I was making a lot on the practice green. Well, it went well on the course too- 32 putts.

I use what I call a double overlap, and have used the same overlap for over 40 years...  Nobody ever taught it to me, I just kind of found something I liked when I was in HS messing around.  I used it with a conventional grip, and kept it when I moved to left hand low a few years ago.

 

For a conventional grip, basically take an interlocking grip, but slide your hands one finger closer together, so your index finger of your left hand overlaps your ring of the right hand, and your pinky of your right and overlaps the middle finger of left hand.   For left hand low just reverse the hands.  

 

Xander Schauffele uses something very close to this, but not sure if it is exactly the same....

Lefty pinker over right index. Also choke down nearly to the steel on a 35” putter. 
 

ive never tried a shorter putter and I am sort of scared to. I got a pretty good thing going with my choke down. Lol. The brain of a golfer

left hand low.  right hand all four fingers on grip at the top and set up with the right hand only.  add left hand, overlap last two fingers, index and middle on the grip

When I do putt cross-handed, I go left pinky over right index finger.

The grips that works for me when I’m go cross handed is ten fingered and double overlap.  When I use ten fingered my top hand is really 100% my stroke.  The bottom hand is really just in for the ride    I have some success with double overlap especially fast tricker greens too. I feel that stroke is more a combine effort both hands and I need to ground the putter before I grip it like that.  It’s not as natural to me
