The Matthew Wolff Go Fund Me, aka, AON Risk Reward Challenge

No algorithm. Simply scores on certain holes as you noted. Some people like to b*tch just to b*tch. Guess Nick Taylor who won the $1 million last season on the PGA Tour was the "algorithm" winner. FFS people.

https://thegolfnewsnet.com/golfnewsnetteam/2021/08/15/aon-risk-reward-challenge-what-is-it-format-holes-prize-money-112028/

In this year-long competition, players on the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour will be eligible for separate, equal $1 million prizes. At each participating PGA Tour and LPGA Tour event, Aon and the tours will select a hole to be the Risk-Reward Challenge hole for the week. For each tournament (36 PGA Tour and 29 LPGA Tour events), a player's two best scores on that week's hole will count toward their season-long score. This means players who make the cut at a tournament has extra chances to improve their score on the Risk-Reward hole compared to those who miss the cut.

At the end of the season, each player's best 40 holes -- as measured against par -- will be their total score for the Aon Risk-Reward Challenge. The one PGA Tour player and one LPGA Tour player with the lowest average score to par will each win $1 million.

Dreams are not meant to come true.
Dreams are meant to keep you going through the darkness.

For the record I was well aware there was no algorithm. I was just trying to see how far down the rabbit hole one was willing to go with their “hot take.” I’m sure he/she/it thought they were clever when they emerged from their take lab, but this is pretty simple lowest scoring average over the season on an assigned Hole.

Of course it's pretty straight forward, and I guess I should have used "Criteria" instead of algorithm. The fact that he was absolutely abysmal for nearly a year, took extended breaks, multiple WDs, a DQ, is surprising he would be in contention to win it. Seven out of 18 tournaments since his 2nd at the U.S. Open has been a missed cut, WD, or DQ. I wouldn't think he would have enough shots, compared to players who made more cuts, and had more chances, at the Challenge. The "40 holes" has to included the same hole from multiple days of the tournament. Meaning, just as an example, could have played the 10th four times at Riviera and had two birdies and two eagles, and that would be four holes counted towards the Challenge. If that is the case, that's not rewarding someone over the course of the season. That's rewarding someone who played a handful of holes well instead of someone who played all of the holes aggressively and performed well doing so. I guess it should be "40 tries," and not "40 holes." He obviously was rewarded for his risks he took in the attempts he actually had.

Yes, you should notify AON and let them know.

Skins are sooo unfair! They only did it on one hole!

Were you unable to comprehend my question?

Are you not able to separate something that runs season long and something that lasts 18 holes? It's OK, I'm a Wolff fan. No reason to get defensive about him. Stating the obvious, if someone who had as abysmal of a season as Wolff did, wins a "Challenge," the parameters for the challenge needs to be revisited.

It's essentially a season long skins game, with 1 hole picked from each tournament. How well you did for the tournament or the season in general isn't relevant, just that one hole. Just like skins, you can have a terrible day on the course and still walk away with loot if you beat everyone else on a single hole. The risk/reward is pressing on that one hole while the rest of the tournament is on the line. In reality I am guessing almost no player on tour does anything different on that hole...except for maybe Matt Wolff since his season was as you described.

I bet the players contending track it closely towards the end of the year
