What is makes your bag an unorthodox/quirky set-up?

The three 8 irons, albeit with different lofts, is a really novel approach. 8 iron is such a fun and easy to hit club. Your 8 irons are probably close in shaft length?  I could see how this set up would work out well and be really consistent for the approach shots.

Congratulations on dropping from 20 to 13 in one year!

All three 8 irons are 36.5".  It's such a comfortable length club.

I'm trying out JumboMax Md right now? How are you liking them so far? I wear a Med. glove and started with Midsize CP2 Pro's and have thrown the JM on 9-50* and D so far to try them out. I love the ones on my three irons, but still need more work to be comfortable with the driver. That said, all of my Midsize's now feel like undersize.

When I first got into playing a few years ago, I think I had a Cleveland CG4 PW, CG11 52*, an older Vokey 58* and a CG11 60*. I didn't know much about wedge gapping at the time haha

Try out the XL.  I accidentally ended up with a couple of L's and they feel off and I bet the mediums feel way different.  My glove size is ML.  I struggled getting a consistent grip until the JumboMax grips and they have easily made the biggest difference for moving my game forward compared to anything else.

7w set to 23*

5h 26* (std length)

5h 26* (-1")

6i which is 28*

The two 5h are essentially the same Tour Edge hybrids (Trilogy and Xrail) but they gap off at 178 and 168 yds for me.

Although now I have a Ping G425 6h in to test set to 30*/Flat that is giving me the same yardage 168 but with a steeper descent angle and less tendency to go left.  That shorty hybrid is pretty light (swing weight is C6/7) and I tend to yank it left alot.  So I might end up sticking the Ping to replace the Xrail.

Driver (10.5*), 2W (12*), then 18* hybrid at the top.  I don't hit fairway woods off the turf, and get better distance and more consistent contact with the 12* driver I'm using as a 2W.

5 wedges:  45* PW, 50* GW (turned down to 48*), 52*, 54*, 58*.  Identified gaps in my distance, and once I dialed in full and 3/4 shots, this setup gave me multiple options from 110 in.

No 5i - I was rarely at that distance (190) and I can choke down on a 4i if needed.

Technically five wedges (though I perceive my "pitching" wedge to be an iron), one fairway, one hybrid, highest numbered iron is a 5.

Maybe all stiff flex shafts, but a 6X driver shaft is quirky?

I carry an 11-wood and took my pitching wedge out of the bag to make room for it.

I go straight from driver to 2 iron then to 4 iron. Ive been toying with the idea of putting a 3W back in the bag, but the main few courses I play i just find myself never hitting it so I took it out and added an extra wedge which I also dont really ever hit, hence the reason for considering going back to the 3 wood.

My bag is anchored in Fours. I carry 4W, 4H and 4i. (and a 7W... I am in my eleventh season of 4W + 7W).

4H launches a bit lower than 7W, and I can get a hot shot with 4H. The 4i serves as a driving iron - reshafted with hybrid SteelFiber 780 HLS. 4i  can deliver a nice low draw when I need to hold a tight fairway without much landing area, or try to get the ball under a headwind.

Not as quirky as many here, but I carry two clubs that go the same distance. A 23* hybrid and a 23* Mizuno Fli-hi 4i. I prefer hitting the iron into par threes, but I prefer hitting the hybrid off the deck. To be honest, I don't use the 4i that much (not many par threes that require it around here), but I have the space in the bag, so I'll keep it for the time being.

In my round yesterday, I didn't hit the hybrid at all, and only used the 4i for a low punch shot. If I ever feel the need to add an extra wedge, I'm really not sure which one I'll drop.

My 1 iron utility is the only club between my driver and 3 iron... and a 3 iron is a bit of a rarity itself these days.

I also like to have 6 degrees between wedges, versus the more common 4. I don't think I've ever hit my 58 and 64 with full swings for distance, only for height and spin.

Complete opposite. I just can't hit fairway woods for some reason.

Driver, straight to a 21* 3H, 4i-GW, then 54* sand, 58* lob and putter.

Quirkiest thing is that it's always in a state of flux ... I'm always tweaking something, and if that tweak works then it often means tweaking something else to fit better as a set. Latest victim is hybrid shaft ... After getting iron shafts that are less butt stiff, I needed to switch out of the very butt stiff counter balanced KBS Prototype to a somewhat more even feeling and weighted project x evenflow black. This season so far I have changed driver shafts 1x, switched 3 wood entirely, switched hybrid loft and now shaft, I'm on my 4th set of irons , added another wedge, and swapped shafts on the other two. Putter is the only thing I've been really comfortable with for something like 5 years now.

I hate to say it, but is there a chance you’re the problem and not the club / shafts? 4 sets of irons is next level.

I’m aware this suggestion is potentially blasphemy on this site.

Sometimes yes. But I happen to think where my set it now is as good as it's been in a long while. I expect it to remain stable for a while (no I wouldn't have said earlier in the season when I could have named the clubs I knew were in jeopardy.). Only thing may change is the ball ... currently going back and forth between titlieist prov1, prov1x and avx.

What is unorthodox is my bag setup (D, 4wd, 2-LW) and my age, 70.  Most guys much younger can't or won't play all classic blades.  That's what makes my bag unconventional.

It wasn't on purpose. But, I cut down a heavenwood sr shaft and G400 Sr shaft 3 wood. These were basically too whippy and hard to hit. Cut them down by an inch and they are very playable. The 3 wood plays like a 4 wood and the heavenwood plays like a 6 wood.

I have older irons on purpose because of less offset and weaker lofts to help me hit the ball high and control my hook. My driver and fairway woods are older and smaller because I make better contact with smaller clubs.

I am going to try to use my 52 degree gap wedge with 10 deg. bounce as my all purpose wedge(sand wedge), although my PW is 49 degrees. I am poor with wedges to say the least so am going to try to master at least one wedge for now as opposed to having multiple wedges and hitting all of them poorly.

My putter is an 8802, I also putt better with small putters as well(I generally hit everything closer to the hosel), and honestly I've never seen a prettier putter than the 8802.

I use the "Shirtsleeve" swing technique me and a friend developed over the course of 3 years while trying many techniques seen here on GolfWrx as well as other classic instruction (Jones, Hagen, Hogan, etc.).

My bag is pretty standard. However I love a set gap wedge, currently ZX7 AW at 50*. For me it’s a full swing club and I want it to perform that way. I am also old enough to remember when that was a PW!
