I have been hitting  a 60 gram x flex tensei white CK.

It's pretty  accurate, but sometimes it will leak out to the left or right.

Last Saturday  we tried a 6.0 Hzrdus 70 gram smoke black and it made a big difference.

The distance was the same, but the  dispersion tightened  up .

Instead  of a 15 yard miss left/right, there is a 5-7 yard left/right miss.

Also, I can actually  shape my drives a little.

My Son ran into this a couple of years  ago, and his swing coach had him change to a heavier  shaft.

His results  were day and night.

Yeah, I’m a big fan of adding weight for control… works really well for me.

Kindof want to go up to 80 grams, as I’m struggling with driver right now!

Most of the 80 grams that I see are cut for a 5 wood, etc.

If I can find a driver length 80 gram I would  try it.

I went to a heavier shaft, but took an inch off it. Now that my driver swing is legit, I am considering a stock length of the same weight.

I have a DG X100 wood shaft that plays around 44” depending on the head it’s in.  The raw shaft weight was 127 grams.  You want heavy and controlled, look no further 😉

That's what happened to me at a demo day a number of years back.  Was trying out the Titleist drivers and the rep accidentally put in an 80g stock Ahina shaft.  Straight(ish) drive after drive.

Suggested trying lighter shaft to get more ball speed, but I was all over the place with 60g and 70g shafts.  Went back to the 80g, and had much more consistent contact and ball flight shot after shot.

I get really quick at the top, so I guess it smoothed out my transition.  We went to order it, and they had to do it as some kind of a special order, because the shaft at that weight was only listed as a fairway wood shaft (even though it was just the MFT Ahina).

Hitting driver is a different  game with both my Son and I.

I can't  wait until  my heavier  shaft gets here.

It's  pretty much point and shoot.

No having to see ( and hope) where it goes.

Ventus Black 7X plays close to 79 grams I believe. I have one in a driver and Im very happy with it.

That’s what’s in my driver now… guess it’s time to go heavier.

Same here, always more consistent with a heavier driver.

Shaft weight seems to be one of those overlooked things in golf fitting. Great fitter told me shaft weight can affect swing path. Proved it to me by changing weight of shaft.  For me, somewhat heavier works because if I go light I spray the ball all over.

This is what is happening to me.

It's  aggravating until you find out about  the heavier shafts.

Yep. Was having issues with driver consistency for a few years. I was on plane with all of my other clubs but steep with driver for some reason. Bought a TS3 online mainly for the head because it had an 80 gram diamana x flex in it. Glad I tried it with that shaft in there because driver has been my best club ever since.

What fitter told me, is the tendency is to get over the top of the proper swing path if too light of a shaft and get under it too much if too heavy.  The right weight and balance of shaft will assist in keeping the swing on plane assuming one has a decent swing.  Also told me adding weight to the head prevents it from closing as quickly, good to know if you have the left miss.  Tee height with a driver can also make things interesting in that teeing the ball higher tends to promote more of a draw where a low tee hit tends to promote a cut.

Interesting? The thing with the tee height, seems to be opposite for me.

That's exactly why I went from a 60 to 70 gram shaft over 10 years ago.  I have better control with it.  Sure, I hit the ball further with a 60 gram shaft, but what's the point if it's curving OB more often than not?  I play the Diamana PD 70TX atm, and it's heavy, stout and one of the most stable modern shafts I have ever tested.  Doesn't curve much either way which is what I'm looking for with driver.

I'm guessing the torque, kick point, and  how the weight is distributed might make it feel different?

To answer your question, yes.  Let's not forget that the two also have some different materials in them as well which affect feel.  I tested the Smoke Black at the local golf store on a sim while the CK pro white was one of the shafts I tested last year went I went in for my driver fitting.  Smoke Black felt dead to me while the CK pro white had good feel to it even though it's low/low like the Smoke Black with a stiff tip and mid.

I had about 10-12 shafts  laying around to try, and borrowed  4 or 5 more when I finally settled on the Tensei white.

Another shaft that worked  wonders  for me was a Fujikura Fuel that came out of a Cobra Amp Cell driver.

Like an idiot, I tipped the Fuel to try in a 3 wood, and now it can't  be used with my driver.. It's  amazing  how 2 people  can get different results from the same thing.

I tried the Pro Launch Red at 65, same problem with the club others talk about. Really messed up my timing. Bought an Aldila VooDoo NV7S at 78 raw and hit the ball much more consistently.

Torque - unlikely

Kickpoint?  true kickpoint is actually a useless metric but that has more often come to mean the longitudinal stiffness profile - which yes could certainly be contributing to improvement.   And yes, longitudinal stiffness can certainly effect the weight feel for some individuals.

Weight distribution? - Hard to say.  Did you check and compare or adjust swing weight with the different shafts?
