Shaft fitting question

I was hitting in the bay at my local retailer the other day.  It was the GC Quad and there were the dots on the driver face.  I was noticing that on the club data there was 5 degree toe droop at impact.  The path was pretty close to 0 (.25 to .75 degrees Out to In).  

 

My question is:  is the toe droop due to the tip section of the shaft being too soft for my swing? 

 

For reference, I was hitting the TSI3 with the Tensei AV Raw White Stiff flex (stock offering in the TSi3)

No.  Droop is normal and expected.   Some shafts will generate more or less with your swing depending on the stiffness - but there is no right or wrong amount or too much.  That's assuming the dot placement on the face was good enough for an accurate reading from the LM.   Regardless, it's not something you need to focus on during the fitting.   As long as you are getting good face impact position and good ball flight results (relative to other shaft options), that's all that really matters in picking a shaft.    And consistency/dispersion is really the key for finding the right shaft (not launch/spin).

Thanks again Stuart for the info.  I was hitting the ball well for distance, but had quite the fade.  Path was good, but the face was quite a bit open.  I love the feel of the TSi3, but will need to test again with some different shafts to see if/how they help with the face squaring up.  Would that be torque?

Does quad measure droop, or do you mean toe down?

 

that reading would correlate with the fade, all other things being equal. Did you just test the tensei or do you have other shafts to compare that value with? Did you compare with existing driver baseline?
 

Are you handle high at impact anyway?

No that's generally not torque.  it could be a lot of things or a combination of multiple things.   Just to name a few:  playing length too long, head weight too high for the playing length, shaft too stiff or too soft, shaft weight too heavy or light,  grip size not the best, face angle of the head too open, lie angle too flat, ....

I only hit the Tensei AV Raw white shaft, so I don’t have anything to compare with.  The software was showing the toe of the driver being down, so I just called that droop.  I’ll go back and do a bit more testing.  Thanks 🙂

Update:  I had a few minutes today so I stopped by my local retailer today and hit their 425 Max - with my Ventus Black 5X shaft.  After 10 shots I looked at the 'Club Data' and my path Average was .5 degree Out to In and the Toe was 2 degrees up.  I then hit the TSi3 again with the stock AV Raw White shaft (Stiff) and after 10 shots the path was again, .5 Out to In but the Toe was 4 degrees down.  I didn't have the time to switch out the Titleist shaft to the X flex, but I'm encouraged that with the Ventus Black 5X shaft the toe is not down.  That being said, the shot shape for the TSi3 was a relatively straight shot - not the big fade I had the other day.   I've ordered another Ventus Black 5X and will put it in a new TSi3 head and test this on the course (hoping it works well and will move into my bag 🙂 )

 

One other thing to note is that the ball speed on the TSi was just over 4 mph faster than the 425.
