Trial and error, found my way into a flow neck went to an actual putter fitting and it turned out to work best for aim, alignment and performance.

Currently playing a face balanced putter and always seem to fight it. Got fitted and discovered that a putter with toe hang is better suited for me. Would suggest getting fitted for you own stroke.

I had a similar experience.  Had been using a heel shafted Del Mar style head the last few seasons, prior to that was using an Anser/Newport style.  Went back to a Newport style this year and just never felt comfortable, I really had to think about my stroke.  Last week I found a Toulon San Francisco (#9 style head) and it just works better.

I did the free putter fitting, most of CC's putters are $250-350, but can customize/add different shafts which make it pricey.

Trial and error, although I can putt with either face balanced putters or putters with small amounts of toe hang. I'm currently in a small toe hang phase but my face balanced stable is eagerly awaiting the call for "Next Putter Up".

The only putter style I'm really poor with is heel shafted.

I saw some youtube video (I know, LOL) where a fitter said something like over 50% of people who come in for fittings think they are straight back and straight through, but after fitting, only 15% really are and the other 85% have some form of arc.

I was one of those people that just assumed I'm straight back and straight through, and was using a face balanced putter for 15 years.  Then I just decided to take my putter, butt up the toe against a straight edge, and see if the toe would drag along the straight edge on my back stroke and follow through.  Nope...slight arc.  So then I removed the straight edge and just stroked the putter over a line and again there was an arc.  Trying to keep it 100% straight back and straight through felt very weird.

Went to a slight toe hang putter and while I wouldn't say it's been a game changer, I do feel like I'm not nearly as worried or self conscious about having an arc now.  Just one thing less for me to think about or worry about so I can just focus on line and speed control.

Toe hang. Have always putted with some arc. Tried, at various times in the past, to see what a straight back and forth stroke would be like, but for some reason it always felt almost unnatural, like I was forcing it. If I don't "try" to do anything and just let the swing do what it wants, it moves in an arc almost of its own accord. And bit of toe hang seems to facilitate a smooth, straight roll with that arc.

Note - I've never had a putter fitting (clubs, shafts, pretty much everything else, but not the putter). This just came from trial and error over the years (many years). Reading this thread makes me think maybe it would be fun to do a putter fitting. Have a feeling, however, that it would produce a conclusion quite similar to the one I've already reached.

When people say "I'm pretty SBST, they are lying and only hurting their putting.

But if you get confirmation of what you assume/know wouldn't that just raise confidence? When the fitter goes "I can't beat you own putter, it's perfect for you" you'll feel a bit better and confident on the greens.

I have a slight to moderate gate stroke (arc stroke) and a blade has always worked for me very well releasing the putter head during my stroke (to close the gate).  Face balanced putters don't allow me to release the putter after impact and I have never performed well with one.

I currently have two primary gamers.  They are fairly similar center shaft putters.  One has toe hang and one is face balanced.  I use the one with toe hang the most but when I develop issues I switch to the other one.  I hope to eventually get to where I can stick with the one with toe hang and not have small things change that make me get a little off kilter.  Fwiw I’m not a bad putter and it usually never gets too bad.  But when the line stops rolling pure I get antsy…

a lot of guys on tour using face balanced putters - yet as we know its highly unlikely to have a true sbst stroke, especially as the putt gets longer. i'm wondering when would a fitter put someone in a face balanced putter even if the stroke is a slight arc.

Depending how they accelerate the head it can help open the head so the face is square at impact where toe hang it could be closed at impact.

Understand we're all a little different. For me, a lot of toe hang and I have a tendency to pull a putt, face balanced a tendency to push a putt, so a little toe hang seems to work best.

I was fitted for a face balanced putter a couple of months ago but have yet to make the switch from my slight toe hang. Looking down at flow neck > double bend is no contest for me. What I really enjoyed about the putter fitting was seeing my stroke on camera and the path I was creating. By tweaking my stroke  I've never putted better, hence why I haven't changed out of my current gamer. Odds are I'll be looking at a face balanced mallet by end of this year/ start of 2022 when we start seeing some more new models.

Combination of a few, trial and error with plumbers neck because I liked the looks and then fitting told me nothing they would change except a little loft tweak!

I did fitting at club champion and SAM was suggesting 30-42 degrees of toe hang. For the life of me, only putter that fit was the Toulon Chicago.

I don’t know what neck style I prefer yet. But ended up with a Bettinardi SS3 with at 1/4, and put very well with it. Single bend shaft.

I just had a putter fitting at Club Champion today, and I learned that the face-balanced vs. toe-hang decision depends on both the arc of the swing and the degree of clubface rotation that occurs during the swing. I do have some degree of arc to my swing, but I don't open the face all that much during the backswing so it doesn't take much to square-up the clubface at impact. I have putted pretty well with either face-balanced or slight arc putters in the past, and the final recommendation today was for a face-balanced putter.

Someday I’m going to get one of your blades and test it against my Seemore.  Right now the Seemore is behaving too well for me to experiment, but I’m interested to see how the torque performs versus the face balanced at impact.  If I eventually get one it will also be interesting to see how the face balanced/no torque works versus the toe hang.
