Good question. Since 2008 USA rookies in the RC were 40-29-17 before this week. USA rookies this week were 14-4-3.  So in total since 2008 it stands at 54-33-20 for USA RC rookies. I'm sure in two years the same tired out of date information will be quoted again.

Yeah it is just a myth that people throw around without even having a clue about it. Look through the threads leading up to the tournament about why I want this guy over a rookie who will suck. Just remember that for next time talking about the team in the next one. Rookies do great.

The pundits only ever bring it up when it suits the point that they are looking to make, that’s where it comes from.

You can have too much experience and you can definitely have too much bad experience, America spent years with guys like Furyk in the team that were beaten year after year. It really didn’t work for them, now they’re going down the route of best players.

 

If they worshipped experience then Mickelson would have been there, and I feel he would have been as poor as some of the old Euros.

Its a myth that survived from days when there were not many organized junior golf things. Now, between the AGJA, junior ryder cup, high school, college, players are more prepared for match play, pressure and team events. 

 

Same thing use to happen in other sports. In the NFL QBs didn't come out of college and start immediately, but now you have guys like Arch Manning who (outside of the lineage) has been to QB "elite" camps his whole life, been on TV since his freshman year of high school, and probably played more organized ball by the time he was 8 when some guys in the 60s played through high school.

RC Captains are slow learners it appears … I’d say 1960-1990 the rookie feel was real … after that the kids coming from college are seasoned competitors
