Golfers Attacked on the Course In Alabama

I just saw an article where golfers were attacked by guys that were hiding in the woods blowing an air horn while the players were teeing off. Evidently the golfers confronted the guy with the horn and several guys came out of the woods in camouflage and put a beating on the golfers.

it must have gotten pretty violent with one of the golfers ending up with broken teeth. I am surprised the golfers didn't do some damage in return if they had a club in there hand. I have a buddy that jokes about having a pistol in his golf bag.....at least I think he is joking.

in a fight, you get one chance with something like a bat or a golf club. better make it count.

It doesn't say if they were young or older golfers, makes difference for sure imo. As a older, well just old person 6 guys in camo trying to throw a beatdown would be met with a very bad attitude.

 

And the fact is running away is not really an option either, even though that is the smart thing to do. There is a joke in Florida that you always need to be aware of the old guy in the Hawaiian shirt, he is not just covering up his beer gut.

Just so I’m understanding you, are you saying that if someone was blowing an airhorn each time you swung a golf club, you wouldn’t confront him?

Look at the big picture. My guess is these guys were looking to blow the horn and piss guys off. Had nobody confronted them, they would have just sat there blowing a horn until the cops showed up. 

 

But nope, gotta go confront them for messing up my backswing. But now I have a partial denture, so that's cool.

I’d say it’s a little more than half their fault. I’m not sure why you think I would  be “busting caps in asses”. I’ve never mentioned carrying guns on golf courses or even fighting on the golf course. I’m simply asking your position and find it very odd that you think the golfers are as much to blame for this incident as the ambushers.

I'm not saying they are to blame. But it takes at least 2 people to have a fight. The guys didn't jump out of the woods for nothing, they were provoked.

 

<edit> anybody who is not in law enforcement carrying a gun in a golf bag is a sad individual or has bears on the course.

I love that you think the guys hiding in the woods are rational people who wouldn’t harm anyone unless provoked. How do you know the golfers weren’t jumped? Guys who dress in Camo, go to golf courses, hide in the woods and blow airhorns at people typically don’t follow the traditional rules of engagement.

Ha! You nailed a key point. If you are going to bop someone with a club, it is important to stay on balance. A firm stance (spikeless shoes on damp grass are not helpful), make sure to clear your hips, and finish with hands high. 

 

The most effective swing is a sort of Happy Gilmore thing. Get a running start and imagine you're going for a 450 yard drive. I'm pretty sure there are teaching pros in places like Montana, or Texas, or North Carolina that can help refine the swing.

One of them was apparently blowing an air horn during the golfers' backswings. Assuming he was doing this deliberately, that's clearly provocative. If he wasn't doing it deliberately, but was just walking in the woods with an air horn for fun, well more power to him??

 

Now, was the air horn guy and the camo crowd all part of the same group? I honestly don't know. When I read they were in camo, I wondered if they were hunters and wondered if the air horn was being let off to frighten the birds or something (I don't hunt; I've no idea).

 

I do agree that the golfers possibly escalated the situation unnecessarily (according to the article, it developed into a fight before the camo group arrived), but based on the information in the article, the guy with the air horn is the primary cause of the fracas.

It's poor etiquette to blow an airhorn during someone's backswing. These are probably guys who blast music from their carts as well.
