$185.00 for one dozen balls?

It's not surprising that a limited release of anything is selling at ridiculous prices.  As mentioned by others, it's a regular occurrence with shoes.  Just look at asking prices on stockx.  The left dots have been at crazy prices on ebay since the initial batch sold out on the first day they were made available.  This thread probably acted as an ad alerting folks that there some for sale on BST for less than they could get them for on ebay.

Edit:  For those looking to get left dots, it's been mentioned in other threads that if you go to the left dot page on the Titleist site and wait a few seconds, a "Notify Me" popup will appear where you can enter your email address to get alerts on their availability.  I haven't tried it so I don't know how reliable that is.

The backlash against sellers hawking $200/dozen balls on here is predictable. Many, myself included, think of this place first and foremost as a community of gear junkies. There clearly have been some people who bought these balls with the sole intent of reselling them. For those that actually want to use left-dots, that’s pretty frustrating to find people profiteering, which is contrary to the collaborative spirit of Wrx.

On the other hand, if I bought a box with the intent of playing them, I’d have to think twice before using them given there seems to be ample demand at $200/dz… I think it’s easy enough to understand both sides of the argument here.

The backlash is predictable but short of wrx putting limits on asking prices, it doesn't really have a meaningful impact beyond being a place to vent.  When you factor in the initial price of the balls, this really isn't much different than what people were asking for (and selling) the original 4pc Kirkland balls when they became hard to find.  There are probably still some out there on ebay for way more than $15 a dozen.

The difference between these and luxury goods like boutique watches and limited edition sneakers is that the latter are clearly luxury goods. Nobody is claiming those sneakers make you walk faster or the watch is keeping better time than your 3 year old android phone. The luxury goods are primarily a visual thing in the realm of style and fashion. The owners know that and accept that, more or less.

The balls, on the other hand, won't be noticed by a single soul unless the owner makes a point of advertising the fact. There is some underlying belief, however tenuous, that the balls have some sort of special characteristic to make them perform better for the buyer. It may turn out to be true, but unless one has tested this in controlled conditions, they're just chasing the pot at the end of the rainbow.

It doesn't really bother me if someone is selling a dozen balls for $150+. It blows my mind that someone is so unhappy with the ProV1 that they're willing to spend 3-4x just to get a slightly different version of the same ball.

If Titleist isn't giving you these for free, you're not good enough to tell the difference.

My sentiments exactly!

Who would pay that for twelve balls? A MORON!

Whoever thought you'd fork over 6 bones a gallon for gasoline/petrol???

Look, I get that it's an insane price, but I've seen no less than 5 posters sell a dozen of those balls for $150+. At that point, you cannot blame the person posting it. It's no different that the bourbon secondary market. No one is required to buy them at that price, yet they continue to do so.

Sincerely,

Someone who saw that post and is about to list a dozen for $150.

It would certainly solve some problems, but markets are not rational

I would not but Ive paid $1800 dollars for a putter and many have paid more for other equipment. I get where you are going with this but we all know there is an Ad up. You are right A Moron probably with expendable income.

Putters don’t break down or fly into the woods… oh wait…

Man's got a point. In some cases, the value of a product is determined by the consumer. Gas is a necessity in many situations . Golf balls... ehh. Can somebody please tell me what golf ball sells for $150 per dozen? I didn't see the link on the earlier page, left dots.

100% agree. No way in He!! that a bunch of message board 3 caps (real life 12's) can tell a difference in these balls. I'd say maybe 1% of us hit the ball consistently enough to tell and even then, it would have little to no bearing on their score (I am not part of the 1%. I play Maxfli Tours, 1. because they are cheap and 2. because they are consistently longer than every other ball I have played and 3. the fun times I catch one low and actually spin the ball, they zip back like I've never seen.) I have played with some pretty impressive + caps that never made it on tour and there are 2 things you never hear them talk or care about is their clubs or their ball. They just play golf.

Says the guy with a picture of a Cameron tour putter as his avatar.  😄

I got a dozen of the Left Dot from the initial Titleist sale.  I may only be a lousy 8 index, but I really liked it.  The Pro V1 spins a little too much for me, and the AVX doesn't spin enough around the greens.  The Left Dot spins just the right amount.

brought some left dash into my proshop (like 24dz if i remember right). I sold them all but everyone just thought they were pro vx balls because there's next to no marketing for them anywhere. My members didnt know what they were buying. I might do the same with left dot and see what happens.

Any feedback on how the left dash played or was everybody just happily in oblivion?

Happily in oblivion. 90% of our good players either play another brand or play the regular pro v. Of course i had to test a dozen for myself, and it was certainly my favorite titleist. I put it up with the snell mtb-x and chrome LS in my top 3 (no particular order). I'd like to try the left dot on the launch monitor on the range compared to the other 3 and see what comes out on top. That will have to wait until next season though.

I'll try it when it comes out, but honestly, the left dash has been really good, and I rotate between that and the Snell MTB-X also, and have since tried the Vice Pro Plus and been really impressed with that ball too.
