Rock Bottom Golf club rating is atrocious

Been looking for a GAPR hi to try and ran across the one I was looking for at rock bottom golf. The condition was listed as “very good” so I figured I would give it a shot. When it came in I couldn’t believe how terrible it was.

How does one damage the paint on the top of the club to such a degree?  I mean you have to be completely disrespecting the club to do that much damage to a club and also the damage around the hosel. I mean sure it doesn't technically affect the playability but my goodness that club has lived a rough life in a short amount of time!

What is RBG’s return policy?  Just send it back for a refund, problem solved.  I understand your gripe as this is definitely NOT “very good” even by their listed standards, but almost every online retailer of anything these days has a no hassle return policy.

I don't think that's going to impact play-ability at all. "Light/Moderate" paint chips indeed!

Yikes.  That's not "very good" condition.  On the other hand I've always been very surprised at 2nd Swings ratings.  I've always received clubs in better condition then I thought I had ordered.

Their ratings are relative to what else they have laying around.

For the most part that’s been the industry norm but these guys are ridiculous. I’ve bought from 2nd swing, Callaway pre owned, GG, 3 Balls and for the most part they under rate their clubs. I’ve bought value clubs from GG in better shape. There’s no way they could sell this as “normal usage”. I thought maybe it was a demo club that had been banged around in a barrel or something but the grip had been changed so someone put some effort in to abusing this club. I may just send the head into Continental and get it refinished.

I have an old hybrid that looks like that just because I didn't use a headcover with it. It still performs fine but it looks like dog poop. If I had to describe it to someone I'd say below average at best. 

 

Either way them claiming that is "very good" is a load of crap.

I could not have a headcover on a hybrid for decades before it would ever look like that.  It looks like it was drug across a parking lot!! The paint on golf clubs is actually pretty resilient and that wear is just ridiculous.  I've played the majority of my golf on desert courses in the middle east where you are actually hitting off of rocky lies often and I have never created that kind of damage to a club and I have been playing the same hybrid for 6 years now!

It looks like one of my brothers hybrids and he never uses a headcover on it or his fairway wood. That’s the only reason for my reply since it looked somewhat familiar.

I had a hybrid for about 5 years that I didn't use a headcover on and it looks exactly like that. You'd be surprised at how quickly they get beat up without protection.

That is atrocious. How it got like that could be a TM issue. I have a first generation Spyder putter that developed chips like that all over, and it was never out of the cover except to putt. None of my other TM clubs did that, so I chalked it up to a bad batch. It might not have been an isolated case.

No you’re spot on- I breathed on my spider the other day and all the paint flew off.

 

sorry OP! Even with hassle free return policy, returning clubs is inherently a hassle. Hope you get a good resolution.

I just bought a like new putter and it was in perfect shape.  Seems like this just was a bad transaction.

Apparently they are active here and reached out to me with some options to make it right. I was just going to keep it because "no hassle" returns are actually a hassle. I had already changed the grip so they're sending me a better condition head and I'll return the one that's beat up. Kudos to them for making it right. New head should be here in a few days. I'll update when I get it.

Just want to update that RBG sent me a much better clubhead asap. I appreciate them making it right. They also included a headcover.
