Srixon ZX5 vs. Titleist T200: Pics & Impressions

Recommended Posts

I currently play a ZX7/5 combo set, but have a T100/200 combo on the way. Today the T200 5 iron arrived so I thought I’d share a few thoughts and impressions.

Size: Overall, the dimensions of the irons are nearly identical. In poor lighting, my eyes could hardly see a difference. Blade length and height are very very similar.

Topline: Again, very similar thickness. The main difference is the Titleist is round while the Srixon is square. With that said, due to the how the satin face of the 200 meets the chrome back edge my eyes perceive the topline to be more square than it actually is.

Sole: Again, dimension are very similar. The shape is obviously different, but I’d guess the overall size is is within millimeters. The 200 sole has a subtle camber which is actually not too dissimilar than the ZX5. While the ZX5 does have a V sole, the ridge is very minimal. It will be interesting to see if there is any turf interaction difference.

Face: This is where I see the first real difference. The ZX5 has a much straighter leading edge and more crisp transition into the heel and toe. Not that it matters, but the ZX5 has one more groove. Also, the ZX5 grooves appear to be slightly deeper to my eye.

Address: Offset is similar. What jumps out to me however, and something I hadn’t noticed before, a tiny piece of the ZX heel is visible at address. Now that I see it, I can’t un-see it!

Those are my initial impressions. Off to the range to see how they sound, feel, and perform. More to come.

Wow, great comparison! It's like same but different. Visually which do you  prefer? I like the zx but it's close....

Currently, I prefer the looks of the ZX5. In my opinion, they have nice bag appeal, but what I like most are the straight lines. I really like the leading edge, and more crisp lines overall. However, at address, I really can't tell much difference. Maybe the difference would be noticeable in the shorter irons.

I did hit them side by side last night, but need to reassess the T200 lie angle before providing accurate feedback. The lie is a bit too flat and I was dragging the toe leading to scrappy contact. On well struck shots though, similar to the dimensions, ball flight was almost identical. Possibly, the ZX5 flew a bit higher, but optically I saw no real difference. I'll post some results after I adjust the T200 lie and get on a launch monitor.

I had both sets albeit the previous generations z585/z785 combo and original T200s.  .....really high performing irons in terms of strike, forgiveness,  trajectory and distance......BIGGEST caveat was the clicky feel in the longer irons....

ZX5 fixed the issue;  T200 did not! JMHO/YMMV

I agree with no click on the ZX5. While it's not ZX7 crisp, it blows the doors off other game improvement irons I've played.

The jury's still out on the T200 until I can get the lie angle adjusted. However, during indoor testing I definitely heard some click, I didn't hear anything out on the range.

If my P760 experiment fails(I'm hoping it doesn't)  I'll get a set of ZX5......that impressed with feel/sound , performance and looks

My P760s however just have this feel and turf interaction that my i210s can't match.....i210s are more forgiving but not by a ton.

Two things are for certain: 1) the T100s have cemented their place in the bag and, 2) the T200 won’t be joining them.

I don’t know what it is, but the T200 just doesn’t work for me. I spent a few hours dialing in my set yesterday and regardless of loft/lie I couldn’t get the T200 to perform. It could be a mental block, possibly sole width, I don’t know. I didn’t/don’t have the issue with the ZX5.

The 2021 Srixon line up has been special with the ZX5 and 7s as the headliners. Without hesitation I’d recommend either model. Srixon just got it right.

Please don’t let this discourage anyone from trying the T200s. They are very nice looking sticks, but something about the 5i and I don’t get along.

If you’ve played/tested both please share your thoughts.

T200 should be more upright no? The toe felt like it’s more pointing up. Ball tends to go left. But my local fitter say, it’s a forged face, so he will never try to bend the lie. Chances the cap will break.

There will be slight changes to handle it. But i getting myself a zx5 original. Don’t get me wrong, t200 felt good. Compact thud feel at impact, my only problem is the slightly more upright lie angle. Bending 2 degree shouldn’t be a problem. But no local fitter’s willing to give it a try.
