Winter Golf membership

Looking for a winter golf membership...

 

3 Handicap

Age 46

Retired

Willing to go anywhere

Looking at November to February

Budget is up to 2000/month....for 4 months only if feasible

Prefer unlimited range/cart/golf.

Prefer a well conditioned course with a mix of challenging holes (don't we all?)

Currently in pacific northwest.......yuck

Plenty of options in Florida.  But mostly in Orlando and Palm Beach area.  IIRC, a friend of mine got a winter membership at Bear Lakes down in Palm Beach and that was unlimited range, great practice area, a cart, and they have two 18-hole courses for $1K/month.  Lots of mini-tour players head there.

 

And it's a well conditioned course.

 

But there are a lot of options out there.  You will probably want to pick a private club.  Just look around for private clubs in the area and in Florida, most of them have winter memberships.  You may have to ask them for what the costs would be, but they are usually accomodating.

I’m amazed by that. Only winter membership you can get in Naples is at a public course. Huge waiting lists.

Yeah that surprises me too that there are still private courses in FL offering temporary winter memberships. I would have expected almost all of them to be full.

Naples is just ridiculously overpriced.  Beautiful area, but their cost of living is asinine.

 

I wasn't a big fan of the actual course at Duran Golf Club.  But I believe you could get a season range membership for 4 months at something like $300.  Their range is lighted, so you can practice until 8pm at night.  I would have to imagine their course w/cart seasonal membership is no more than $600/month.  It is a public course, but that's not a bad deal.  Also fairly affordable to live there and you're close to the beach.

 

One area I would look at, if you're willing to 'get away from it all', is Ocala.  Particularly the Dunellon area.  You can be a seasonal member at Juliette Falls, which is a top course in the state, unlimited cart, unlimited greens fees, unlimited range, for $2,600 (plus tax) for the entire membership which lasts 6 months or you could pay $467 per month.

 

And there's a bunch of really good clubs in the area as well.

 

The big thing to look out for is if the club has a seasonal membership or a National membership.  National memberships often times mean that you're paying for 12 months (plus initiation fee), but you're paying at a lower rate because you can prove that you do not live within 100 miles of the course.  This is different from seasonal memberships that will allow one to pay for a limited number of months.

So it's a public course as I suspected. Juliette Falls is a public course as well. No where in Florida are you getting a winter membership anymore at a private club. PreCovid in Naples you could at a few really nice privates like Twin Eagles. Golf membership is very expensive in Naples but the over all cost of living is not. It's the same as anywhere on the coast of Florida. I own a place there. Ocala is great if you have horses.........Not sure why anyone would live in the middle of Florida.
