When hole #14 is in play, there will be less commercials. I think in a regular tournament with coverage of 2 groups it will be better.

I was just about to ask if theres commercials-looks like its skysports 4 (also, Main Event is showing it)The UK has  mandated allowed commercial time which is about 3x less!!!

Good graphics and coverage, I’m sure there will be less commercials eventually.

Today's featured groups are Thomas+Reed, and then Rahm+Cantlay plus tge #14 hole. They show other players ocasionally anyway. I am pretty happy with the coverage. I don't mind the ads. Before during downtime they only showed the leaderboard.

I had espn+ 2 years ago (at $50 or $60/year price, they increased it since).  It was pretty worthless at the time to the point that I honestly stopped even using it for the most part.  Seems like it's gotten a little better with the pga additions but there's something special about not financially supporting ESPN/DISNEY.

12-15ft elevation change=One club difference as a guide. So, 48ft downhill should play 3-4 clubs difference, which doesn’t make that graphic too far off.

Is ESPN+ coverage going through the 18th hole with the leaders or are they cutting off when network coverage begins?

Next week it will be even better with featured groups, marquee group, and featured holes. 4 different channels to choose from.

I'm enjoying it better than the golf channel coverage, Steve Sands gives me a migraine. Only gripe is they had Cam Smith's score wrong and the shot he was playing on #6 (he was putting for bogey according to the board on the course in the background, but tv had him putting for par) and then they showed the wrong players name a couple of times. The tone is more European coverage like than the amped up regular thunder dome coverage.

That's a lot of content, I am excited. I don't mind the ads between shots except the one featuring Robert Pattinson.

Quite the production ESPN+ has. Is it normal to have all of the production coming out of semis instead of buildings? They want it to be mobile or they didn’t have time to build buildings?

One of the biggest changes to CBS’s product in 2022 can actually be traced back to ESPN. In the new year, the PGA Tour has made the executive decision to assume control of all ‘below the line’ facilities — TV towers, mobile camera units, technical facilities, etc. Whereas previously, networks would be forced to book the facilities, under the new agreement, that work will be left to the Tour. The shift comes as part of the Tour’s new streaming rights deal with ESPN+, which dramatically expanded the overall coverage offerings.

 

Of importance: technicians for each individual network will still be responsible for operating the equipment, and the networks will maintain complete control over the production of each broadcast. According to CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus, the decision was made with the goal of streamlining broadcast setup efforts from week to week.

 

“The thought was to combine the resources of all those different feeds and have the Tour provide them,” McManus said. “It seemed like a very efficient and good way to move forward. However, our production lineup is the same as it was last year. The technicians who’ve been doing golf with us for so long, they’ll all be coming back. It’s just that we will not be booking the actual facilities that are being used. But you won’t see anything different on the air. We’ve worked hand in glove with the PGA Tour to make sure that this will be a will be a smooth transition. The equipment levels are actually probably going to be larger than they were in 2021. So the fans sitting at home will have no idea that anything is changed. The product is still going to be every bit as good as it’s always been.”

PGA Tour Live used to have 2 featured groups playing simultaneously but on ESPN- they only have one. You have to switch back and forth between groups via the app. Really lame. Also I'm getting buffering issues and I have fiber internet.

I have buffering issue with ESPN+ PGA Tour Live when I drive and on 5G. I don't have the same issue when using YouTube.

At home I also have occasional issues with ESPN + buffering which doesn't happen with YouTube or Disney +.

Theres definitely something up with it. The app is painfully slow and unresponsive. I've got the latest firestick and, like the older model, its still a bit laggy but espn- is noticeably worse than every other app. Worst part is the commercials. Old pga tour live just had the scoreboard with some on-hold with the power company style music. Pretty comfy.

Steve Sands is horrific! I am all for being positive and cheery but he takes it to such an extreme that it has the opposite effect on me.

After debating for weeks about whether to get it again after it left Amazon, I realized my wife has Hulu, and I already have it.  After two days here are my thought:

 

Too many commercials, and I learned today that if I am watching on delay, I still have to watch the commercials.  

 

I like Ike that I can watch it on delay like I did Amazon, and have been told you couldn’t do that on NBC.

 

It still seems too much like extended GC coverage. I loved the older days when it was a couple of cameras, and maybe one announcer, no studio, nor graphics.

 

Having said that, I can’t imagine there are many outside of real golf fans that will subscribe, and most of us can do without the fluff, and would appreciate it even more.  Not to mention less cost to produce. 

 

I hate the Marquee Groups.  You can guarantee that you are going to be seeing the same 6 or 8 guys if they are in the field, and it used to be maybe one of them, and two guys you wouldn’t normally see.

 

It is still a decent value for us golf nuts.

I must say that I enjoyed what coverage I got to see this week, which wasn’t a lot.  

 

The coverage of each group was so good to watch.  No talking, no shot tracer, just golf.  If anyone out there is readying this, please give us more of this, and less GC extended coverage, with the same six or seven players in the featured groups!
