GPS Apps

Was thinking about using one of the Apps over the other GPS devices like golf buddy, bushnell ect..

Is Golfshot worth the 50 bucks a year or are there better Apps like Grint, 18birdies, ect..? I feel like using an app is just as good as the more expensive devices?

i have used golfpad for years now and love it. They are constantly updating the app, great battery life, can be used with smartwatches. I also have their NFC tags attached to each club which work pretty flawlessly.

I tried Golf Pad tags. Do you still have to tap the phone? I found my phone going in and out of the sensing mode and even when it was in that mode several taps would be required to recognize the tag. Also, I found a lot of errors in the data they presented in the app. I always made them aware of those issues and they seemed appreciative and responsive, but many never got fixed during the time I used their system.

I have Golfshot + think it is worth it as their free app is just middle of the green yardage, the premium gives front/middle/back and also yardages to end of fairway, bunker and other hazards used with a watch it tracks yardage for each shot so you can always check out if you are hitting your clubs the correct yardage

I have an Android phone and I've noticed it's more phone related than anything. Some of my phones have been extremely quick to read the tag, others not so much. My data for yardages has been somewhat consistent. I've noticed a few things here or there, but again I think it's determined by how well your phone's GPS works as that's where the info is actually coming from.

I have an issue every now and then, but it's been phone dependent more than anything. I'm an android guy and have it set up to stay on. Only time I had any consistent issues was with the Nexus 6P I had. NFC on that phone was a crazy small window and in a terrible location. I've had no issues with Huawei, Oneplus, or samsung. I've currently had the same set of tags on my clubs for 4-5 years. Data is solely dictated by the phone it's connected to. The better the phone and hardware the more accurate the data. When I catch one the data shows and when I don't catch one it shows as well. Straight ahead par 4s and par 3s are what i use to validate the most as I can shoot the flag and then see how much I have in at the next shot.

I had high hopes for their system. I'm glad it is working well for you. It is nice to have choices!

I use GolfShot but just got a free 6m subscription to MyTaylorMade+ app which unlocks stats like strokes gained. I may try it out. IMO, if you pick one and use it, its worth the $30-$50 if you stick with it and get good stats you can review and work on the right practice strategy.

I tried using Golfshot and when it worked, I loved it. Had yardages on my Apple watch and it was great. When it worked. But I never new if it was going to work until the start of the round and that is NOT the time I need to start trying to figure out why this isn't. It worked for me about 60-70% of the time. And when it didn't work, it would lock up my Apple watch.

I am trying out TaylorMade app this weekend.
