Lake Michigan Golf Trail

Here's a question to give you something to do over Christmas.

Let's assume it's late spring, early summer.

You have 2 weeks to travel around Lake Michigan.

Which courses would you play and where would you stay ?

You can play no more than 14 courses.

You cannot play any course more than once.

No private clubs.

You have enough cash to play any course's going rate.

Start and finish any place you like but you have to go all the way around.

Starting in Chicago, I'd hit Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, American Dunes, Arcadia Bluffs, Bay Harbor, Forest Dunes, The Loop Red, The Loop Black, Treetops Signature, Marquette Greywalls, Black Lake, The Straits, Blackwolf Run, Thunderhawk, and The Glen Club.

I like all those picks. Bay Harbor, Treetops and Black Lake are interesting choices - you obviously see them as superior to say Pilgrims Run, Tullymore and Eagle Eye? Tullymore is a Jim Engh design which I would be quite keen to play.

Pilgrim's Run gets a lot of love, but it didn't thrill me. Conditions were fairly mediocre when I played it. I do like Tullymore, but Bay Harbor beats it out. Eagle Eye is a little too far from Lake Michigan to be considered in a LM loop. Greywalls is pushing it.

I will start in Benton Harbor and drive around the Lake and only play in Metro areas that are located on Lake Michigan (So no Plilgrim's, Black Lake, Sand Valley etc):

 

I will say I know Michigan golf way more than Wisconsin, Chicago - so this is a biased list
