If you had to pick: ZX7 vs Miura MC 501

I would pick any Miura over the ZX7 pretty much because the ZX7 is visually almost game improvement big (still feels/plays amazing) but the MC 501 has WAY too much offset. It’s flat out hideous to me at address unless you get a custom set with the offset taken out. So between those two ZX7 all day.

I saw mention of the offset in the 501 in some reviews but didn't realize it was that pronounced.

It's pretty noticeable. To the extent that I do not like hitting them. My friend has a set and it's just very unpleasant for me. I know offset isn't everything in draws but my miss is left and I don't like something looking that closed. The TC201 has less and is a great iron. Preferred mine to both the MC501 and the ZX7

have you considered bending them 485 degrees weak to reduce the offset?

They are pretty different clubs, and I have only hit a set of 501 in a fitting once. I think probably the questions would be ZX7 vs 201. I have not hit the 201 but it has a big following.

I would probably go Miura if price was no option but ZX7 is sneaky forgiving. Probably depends how much forgiveness you need.

I would go with the Miura's myself.  One of buddies who used to a be a Srixon rep has the ZX5 in his bag that I got to try at the range and they look sexy and felt buttery soft, however like @NNJsaid, the Miuras feel more solid which is what I prefer.

And the ZX7s feel even softer and slightly less clicky than the 5s.

right now I have them in the bag Bc they are a bit less demanding than the cb-57s. When my game picks up I might switch back. I love the feel of both and generally just got with whatever I’m hitting better at the time

Anyone hit the Miura 1008 cb compared to the Srixons by any chance? I just picked up a raw set of Miuras and curious how they’d compare to the zx7s? It’s 5 degrees in Massachusetts so not gonna be on the course any time soon.

I own the CB's as my second set, thinner top line and that solid Miura feeling. They are surprisingly forgiving for what they are but just a forged CB nothing more. I'm not a consistent enough ball striker to game them all the time especially in the 5,6 irons and for an everyday set for me I'd be in a club with some more help like the ZX7s or a blend (few folks out there toss a CB301 or other at the top end, not a bad idea if you don't mind the different looks)

just don't understand people who think the sole, etc of the zx7 is game improvement. The topline is thicker but thats it.

I don’t think the earlier poster was referring to the sole so much as the overall size and possibly top line, although I don’t want to speak for him.  To my eye they seem similarly sized to the i210 (which I play and love).  Just bigger than most clubs in the tour/players category.

for me, if price/resale is not a factor and I’m picking one to play I would go with the Srixons.  The Miuras are beautiful but just not irons I think I could game.  I haven’t actually seen them in person though, but I believe that the size of the srixon would be a better fit for this 4 handicap.

ZX7.  Miura are overpriced.  I could get the Srixons and a new driver for less than the price of just the MC 501.

It's funny because I ended up in a set of ZX7 despite my previous comments in this thread because I got a crazy deal on a set. Ended up falling in love with them. They're just so, so good.

Miura.

Not because I think I'd shoot lower scores, but because they feel even better than they look.

I'm much more sensitive to "offset" in woods than I am irons, and hardly if ever notice it on irons.

ZX7s are probably the best feeling non Miura iron on the market (tied with Mizuno jpx921 tours).

I own both!  Miura 501s because they're beautiful and feel even better, and ZX7s because they help me shoot lower scores!

Can't say anything bad about ZX7 besides the looks which I think is a little busy. But they perform well and stayed in my bag for a month so far. So did 2021 T100 and 620 CB. Personally I think Miuras are overrated. They're good but not 2x better and it's hard to quantify or justify their value.

If my fitter carried Srixon, I might have ended up with those instead of JPX 921 Forged last year.  They were one of the few irons that had me tempted to break my Mizuno streak at 3 in a row.

I came from Zx7 for a year and half to switching to a set of Miura CB57.  Not quite MC 501 but has little less offset.  For me, my iron game has improved tremendously after switching to Miura.  This was my second time trying Srixon (having gamed z765 years ago) and I just could not get a long with them.  It may be the v-sole but I couldn't get the consistency I wanted out of them.

So if money wasn't an issue, I would certainly recommend Miura.  Are the expensive and possibly over-priced?  Sure.  But they freaking flat-out perform and you can be sure quality control is top notch.  They also feel incredible.  Please read up on their forging process.  That third press makes all the difference in feel and consistency from club to club.

Reviving this a little because no one has addressed angle of attack.

ZX7 sole is designed for steeper swingers.

MC-501 is better for shallower AoA.

there profile descriptions even address this.

I am -1 to -2 on AOA. I was thin all day with ZX7, the MC-501 are amazing irons. The thin kids still gets enough height to work, especially for a “blade”.

the offset is more than you would expect, but it really comes in on the 8,9,P…. Not as noticeable. I am very offset sensitive too with a left miss. Have not had this issue at all with the MC-501. In fact I am a slight fade with the irons…. Which is fine for me…. Maybe a shaft thing to…. Have modus 130S shafts in them. Great flight profile.

Very forgiving irons given their design. I sometimes have trouble with blades out of deep rough, but the lower weight mass in these really helps in those conditions, but you can still easily control flight.

as far as feel, both irons feel good. The Miura’s have such a unique feel to them. It’s soft, but firm. Truly nothing else feels like a Miura.

my Bridgestones J40 are soft, but almost marshmallow soft….the Miura’s are worth every Penny if you can get a good used set…. Just one man’s opinion.

The cb1008 is on of the best feeling clubs I've ever hit. They are smaller than the zx7 and to me a superior club. Zx7 is probably longer but I'd pick the cb1008 hands down.

Which is more forgiving the 501 or 201?

Look at the reviews online. Some reviews have stated that the back on the 201 is a little large and it doesn’t have the same feel as some more traditional Miura’s.

In theory the 201 is because of the split weight and more defined perimeter weighting.

the 501 is one of the easiest “blades” I have ever played. Deadly accurate and one of the best feeling irons I have ever hit. Gorgeous to look at as well.

you do see a lot of people selling 201s on here to stick with the MC -501.

but everyone is different and your mileage may vary.
