Five categories were used to determine the player’s Impact score: Google search frequency, social media reach, Nielsen score (TV time), Meltwater mentions (global media attention), and Q-score (player appeal).

Mickelson slyly responded to a tweet from Golfweek’s Eamon Lynch, inferring that his original tweet might have been part of a ploy to drum up more social media response.

TW could lock up the PIP easy, just be like,

tweet himself playing video games and eating a sandwich. Put a caption,

”Sorry Philster, looks like 2nd again for ya”

Get like 19MM likes ; )

I don’t get the complaints on the PIP. It was always meant for the rich to get richer. I don’t want to hear top-10 players complaining about other top-10 players.

Or Tiger could just melt the internet with two words.  "I'm back." Game over.

I'm sure it's appreciated but TW doesn't need the money. TW doesn't get out of bed in the morning for money and he sure doesn't "tweet" for money.

It's nice to see Phil and especially TW get acknowledgement for carrying the tour all these years. Those guys built this thing years ago and they are still the biggest names in the sport.

So whether he's just busted or funny on purpose I'm guessing Spieth's dad's metric doesn't distinguish that - has to be a continuous talking factor!

I love Phil, but this is dumb. He is a great ambassador, but if he doesn't win the PGA he's not even in this conversation. So win a major and PGA will throw more money at you. Give him third place if you have to.

They should be using this to positivly reinforce what Max Homa does on social, or go full WWE and give 1 and 2 to Brooks and Bryson and let that fued go infuego into the next year... or give it to DJ so we can all bet on how much snow he'll buy with it.

Great idea, poor execution.

The oldest player in history to win a major. That's not chicken feed.

Also, you said IF he didn't win the PGA he's not in the conversation. He did win. IF my Aunt had balls she'd be my uncle.

Phil 1, Tiger 2 or Tiger 1, Phil 2.  It doesn't matter.  The PGA Tour knows they can't afford to lose either one of them right now to the threatening "World Tour".  They'll start giving the younger players the money soon enough.

Tiger isn’t going to the new leagues and Phil has already made up his mind that he is. I don’t think the PGA Tour cares if Phil leaves. The Champions Tour will be more worried, especially if Phil is banned.

Phil leave the pga tour?

Besides Tiger, Phil is the guy born after 1940 with over 40 pga tour wins.

Can you imagine how much abuse and ridicule Phil would get if he left?!

He’d go from being a legendary, popular, champion, to a total sell-out loser.

His brand would be destroyed.

Phil wants the big money and to do something different. The SGL or PGL is right up his alley. He might even be the first to commit.

let's be clear......In 2020 Phil earned $40M in endorsements money an $800k in tour winnings.

I think the tour owes him a little cash even though he wouldn't think about doing anything that would jeopardize his endorsements.

Tiger and Phil have the PGATOUR right where they want them.......IMO

Win some tournaments.

Oh Phil talks, we all know that

But he’s makin 50MM a year doing whatever he wants, whenever he wants

He not going to listen to anybody telling him “do this, play here”.

Phil has a lifetime exemption on the pga tour. He leaves and this PGL doesn’t work out and he’s banned from the pga tour?

Then what?

His legacy will truly be,

If they are paying Phil $50-100 million, he could leave. Some players will have their schedule set for that kind of money. Phil will most likely be banned from the PGA and Champions Tour if he leaves (apart from the courts getting involved), but if the SGL and PGL fold, you bet the Tour will let him come back.

100MM for how long?  If it’s a one time deal, Phil already makes

50MM a year in endorsements

So he gets another 100MM in his pocket. Nice.

But walk away from the pga tour and face a ban?

I think he’d need more like 300MM guaranteed over 3 years tops.

That’s just being smart on his part.

Will they spring for that?

And forget about Phil, that’s a nice catch for them but Phils very long in the tooth.

To move 5 guys that are in the top-20, the guys that would give them any semblance of being on par with the pga tour, the Rahms, BKs, BDs, JTs, Rory’s, to move 5 pf those guys?

Im thinking it cost them a billion dollars. Maybe more.

Maybe they’ll try but these guys know what they are worth.

And I doubt just one guy signs without knowing other guys are sighing up. They’d need to cut a deal and move 5 guys at once and pony up that kind of money.

What, ya think you buy a golf tour on par with the pga tour for less than 2 billion?

no way.

It’s going to be $50-100 million a year for Phil, not a one-time check. Phil is long in the tooth, but if gets the other players you mentioned to move over, it won’t matter.

A few billion dollars is nothing to the Saudis. The end game for this Tour has nothing to do with golf anyway.

Ok well, if they are willing to put out 2 billion up front in comp guarantees, they could get a few guys I think.

But the best guys will wait to see how it goes first.

Rahm, JT, BD, guys like that aren’t waking away unless they see this thing is successful for a few years first.

They could get like Rickie, maybe Tony Finau? Some of the older Euros. Maybe Fleetwood too.

I think BD and DJ are also ready to jump now. Rose, Stenson, Rickie, and Kokrak are also supposedly interested.

Apart from Bryson, these other players are veterans who have already made their money on the PGA Tour and wouldn’t be hurt by a ban. Will the younger stars want to risk a ban or a loss of OWGR points is the question.

Yes, Rose, Stenson, Casey. Maybe Rickie. But even those guys may not want to do what they are told by mandate.

And DJ is just about to get his lifetime exemption.

Will he walk away from a lifetime exemption and right into a lifetime ban?

I don’t think so.

But, PGL says it’s launching in 2023.

Its 2022 now.

So I guess, if I understand your thinking, this year, we will see

DJ, Phil, and Bryson, quit the pga tour and the PGL organize 18 events?

Could happen but I’m skeptical; )
