That will be an issue if OWGR points are allowed to be given by the SGL or if the the players sue the Tour for being banned and win

Agree, all I said was that just as the tour caved to pressure for the Saudi event because, I assume, the players gripes about all the cash they could make, 

 

If the SGL/PGL or anybody else puts together an event and offers huge money, the players could do the same again.

 

This would only be if there was an agreement that there would be no development of a competitive league and poaching players off the pga tour.

No one with good endorsement deals that are heavily based in the US will jump ship to the Saudi thing. That can create a stigma amongst sponsors and ostracization.

DJ and Phil aren’t getting $50 million in endorsements. The money that the Saudis are giving is far more than they will lose if sponsors drop them.

... and if the Saudi thing goes belly up in 2 years because no one is watching a part-time "tour" with only 2 or 3 name stars? Phil is in the 40-50MM/yr range, and has been there for years.

If Phil gets banned from the PGA Tour during the time the SGL is around, you bet the PGA and Champions Tour will let him back in if the SGL folds. Maybe he’d be fined or get some other punishment.

While I relatively somewhat kind of sorta agree with you, everything in your statement is pure conjecture. Lots of those magical if's, you bet's, maybe's and or's.

Until it happens, everything is conjecture.
 

We know a few things:

1. The PGA Tour wants Phil playing on its Tours and not being taken away for 18 weeks a year. 

2. The PGA Tour has threatened a ban on any player that leaves for a rival tour.

Why then would the PGA Tour cut off their nose to spite their face if the SGL goes belly up after a few years and Phil wants to play 10-15 weeks a year? They would let him back in because it would hurt them more to keep Phil out.

Yep.  And Phil already knows this.  He is a huge "get" for the Champions Tour.  There is no reason for him to play that Tour unless he's making a ton of money and forming lucrative business partnerships.  They're going to have to pay him one way or another.

Congrats to Phil.  Couldn't have happened to a more deserving, upstanding guy.  Kudos to the PGA Tour for this worthy endeavor.
