Tournament talk is getting me all excited.

CGA Western Chapter is at my home course Battlement this year. Great course if any of you want to head west in August that should be a fun event. Battlement also has their two-day spring championship the last Saturday and Sunday in May.

Another great mountain tournament I've played is the Aspen city course championship. 3rd weekend in August this year. Amazing value as the tournament costs about what one rack rate is and it's also close to impossible to get tee times at Aspen so between guaranteed times and two rounds for the price of one it's a no-brainer.

I also plan to sign up and play in a Colorado West Amateur at Bookcliff in June. 3-day event just as it's starting to get hot in GJ, but I like the course and want to get more tournament rounds in this year.

thanks! lol i can probably throw axes left-handed until that shoulder decides to go out 😜

i plan to get pics up today. have been procrastinating because it really feels like the end of an era. some things are tough to accept.

I feel the pain on this one. I played baseball my entire life and a year in college. My shoulder definitely has some wear as well. Luckily I don't notice anything at all with it during the golf swing. I end up putting much more pressure on my left. It freaks me out to lose golf so I get it.

That is Joel....using your CC of course and not inviting you to play either 🤣  JK

Soooo I just noticed my GHIN did not renew? I had it set to as it did last year.... did they change something?  I just took care of it but wondering?

😏. Not sure about GHIN, the pro at Fox renews it for all of us.

Dean Snell sent out a note to customers telling them the urethane makers are starting to limit allocation due to supply chain issues. It will hit the smaller ball makers first but he thinks it may affect the big manufacturers this year too. You may want to stock up on balls if your supply is low especially if you see any deals

I bought 12 dozen last year when they were running short. Fox didn't have any for months and I was about to head to the tee for the USGA Mid-Am qual at highland meadows I realized I had one ball in my bag. I stopped at the shop and they had two boxes left, which the guy said he had no idea when he would get more. That was when I decided to stock up for this year. Ironically I've been using a lot more than usual since I've been hitting on the sim all winter.

Airport course? A pair of brothers from our area (both sniffed the tours) used to play in it regularly. I think between them they have at least a couple of wins. The course seems so simple, but one of them told me they  get those little tiny, inverted saucer greens crazy fast.

Erik Hogan was the guy we played in our last match in the winter skins, such a fun guy to play with….and just watch.

Kind of glad I didn’t venture out to a new course after barely touching a club for a couple of months. Looked like someone who just started. 😥

I do hope I’m around for the Highland Hills open this year.

Ahhh, the Wyoming Open. I grew up playing the Airport (from Cheyenne). I have played in it a couple times. It's like a big homecoming/reunion for all the guys I grew up with in the golf industry (I worked at the Cheyenne Country Club from 1995-2000, from ages 14-19). They always put so much pressure on themselves and then play so bad. A kid I got beat by in the WSGA Match Play in the semi-finals went on to win it as an amateur. John Murdock III. You're right, there's somehting cool about it. It's a regular muni track, short, nothing special about it, but people seem to love that event. I love it. I just hesitate to play in it because most rounds push up against 6 hours with all that waiting on the many driveable par 4s...

That's right, it was 63 and 64 in the Collindale Invite! I knew it was crazy low, but I couldn't even imagine it was that low. My goal is to break 70 out there from the black tees some day. I can't imagine someone shooting 63, unless they were just hitting their driver as straight as an arrow. Those fairways are so narrow (23 yards seems to be the average) and missing the fairway by a foot can mean a punch out). Well done. It is equally difficult for me to fathom someone shooting 63 one day and 78 the next. Ahhh, golf.

Good for you your wife plays and you can play so many tournaments. My wife definitely does NOT play (and doesn't really understand golf) and so 2-3 tournaments a year would lead to a pretty icy home life! I have to use my allotted tournament time wisely.

Longmont seems like a nice golf town. Love Ute Creek! Have never played Fox Hill, but hopefully we can play together this year!

Yep, the airport course! It's so funky but I love it. The rounds can take a while some days but we all end up renting house(s) so we don't care much. The plans for my golf trips are usually eat, sleep, golf.

Yeah, Erik is great. He was the #1 at UNC while he was there. He's a funny guy and always a blast to play with. I tried to get him for the four-ball but he already promised another partner. We always sit around and have beers after tournament rounds and he said he was just unconscious that day on the 64. He said he didn't hit it great, but made EVERYTHING he looked at. I can understand that swing from 64-78, it's still golf. So insane how much different our game is after a night's rest.

Yeah, I'm extremely thankful she took up the sport and made some friends. She actually left for Tucson last night to play in a womens member-guest at Ventana Canyon this weekend. Longmont is a great golf town. It's a great balance of cheap but still close enough to good stuff. The other two courses are pretty underrated also IMO. Let's play a round sometime soon, you're always welcome!

Super excited! Battlement is so good. I'm planning on playing in it. Not a bad idea for the spring championship or the aspen city one. The only difficulty is lodging. If those are back to back weeks I will have to hole up somewhere for a week and work in-between (love working remote.)

Yes, I was thinking about playing that West Am also. I have a friend that's a member so I'll have to ask him about staying also.

I just got that email today. Looks like it could be fun.

Looks like a fun event for early season and no real presure.

Jealous of you guys being able to practice/play given how nice the weather was yesterady.   Not sure if the snow was gone enough?    Friends keep texting me to play today at 4 Mile Ranch just to rub it in.   Think I need better friends LOL

Finally got out of the house yesterday so went into Golf Galaxy yesterday and the looks you get walking around a golf store with a cervical neck brace on is classic 🤪

No snow in Greeley. Then way I played today though, I’d have been better off If we still had a foot on the ground.

Yep, north of Lafayette/Boulder didn't really get anything. I got 72 holes in this weekend.

CommonGround Men's Club also has a very similar Masters event to kick off the season that's really fun.  No pressure, team event, hopefully I can play in it.  Off to Pinehurst on Wednesday, this weather really put a damper on my plans to practice and play a bunch before the trip.  Oh well.  Still can't wait!

We just did it on our own.  Playing 1, 2, and 4 and then heading over to play Pine Needles, Mid Pines, and Southern Pines.  Pine Needles is hosting the US Women's Open this year so super excited to play that before the ladies show me how it should actually be played 😆

For those living in the southern 'burbs, our Thursday night beer league is kicking things off at South Suburban on Thursday.

Unfortunately, I'm way too busy to play this month, but I hope to start going out regularly in April. If you're interested in playing a super casual 9-hole midweek round with a fun group of people, send me a note.

Great Rota  Played all and all are fantastic.  Huge Mid Pines fan.

I have not played Southern Pines since the redo but I am sure it is on par given what was done.

To bad Dormie is full private now as it is an excellent course.  If you can get access try. Last year the group I went with all liked Dormie Club over No2 and No.4.   It's debatable.....

Tobacco road is the only other one in the general area and I have done it a few times and its a Love it or Hate it course.

I remember your pictures and write up from last year....I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight because I'm so excited to play!  We are playing the Cradle as well one day and hopefully will be spending lots of time putting at Thistle Dhu.

We're playing with our hickory clubs which is why we ruled out Tobacco Road, we heard it wasn't the greatest to play with those.  Same with No. 8 at Pinehurst, really wanted to play that one but in talking to a former pro out at Pinehurst he recommended staying away.

That is a bummer about Dormie, I've heard nothing but good stuff about it.

Cradle is a awesome par 3 course.  It is not hard but the way they did the layout makes it more like a huge putt putt course and fun.  If the little drink cart is open it is a fun spot to sit and watch everyone hit and some serious trash talking LOL

Have a great trip, jealous  😃

Well another weekend down and Saturday was sooooo nice I was bouncing off the walls LOL.

Drove past the driving range at MC and seeing people hititing was like a putting crack in front of a drug addict and telling him he can't have it  🤪

Though "technically" I am not allowed to do any physical activity yet (...1 week hopefully....) I started putting around house today.  I swear I walked past my office and the cameron called out to me.... like out of Oliver twist  "please sir I want some more" 🤣

Hope everyone got out and ripped it around.  Joel do not tell me you played 72 again ...... ! /cry LOL

Lol, I would have gotten 72 in but we had some friends we haven't seen in ages hit us up to hang out Saturday and Sunday. They wanted to play disc golf so I got out there on Sunday for the first time in years. I'm way better at ball golf, for the record.

I played well Saturday in a match against the current Boulder City champ so Sunday would have been down hill anyway. I was 3 down through 3, squared it by the turn and won 3&1. Shot my first red numbers in Colorado for the year. Hopefully the first of many.

My neighborhood installed a 9-hole disc golf course in the park. I'm amazed at the foot traffic, even when there is snow on the ground.

Back from Pinehurst.  You weren't kidding @CDM that whole area really is magical!  We loved it so much I think we're going to go back next year.   We walked all 6 rounds which was really enjoyable, the courses there are very easy to walk around.

First night we got lucky with weather (it was supposed to rain and thunderstorm) and we sere able to putt around on Thistle Dhu, which is the giant putting green that has two nine hole "courses" to play on.  Very fun, laid back, and a great way to start a trip at Pinehurst.  Grab a drink, grab your putter, and mosey around while putting and taking in the scenery and clubhouse.  We also chipped around for a little to get used to the greens and the grass.

Next day, we started at No. 1.  What an absolute gem!  It's the oldest course at Pinehurst (duh, it's named No. 1) and while on the shorter side at around 6,000 from the back tees, it was just a really fun and well laid out course.  I loved every hole and had a blast playing it.  I would happily play it again and again.

Afternoon round took us to No. 4.  Visually it is a stunning golf course.  Huge expansive views of the property.  The course itself got mixed reviews from us.  I get why people love it, but some of the holes I really did not care for.  Overall though it is definitely worth playing and it is just a gorgeous golf course.

Friday we played the Cradle in the mid morning.  As everyone who has ever played it will tell you, it really is insanely fun and a good time.

We then got to play No. 2.  Had an awesome forecaddie (although I'm guessing all the caddies out there are great).  Those greens are something else, I was very thankful to have someone help me read them!  I think No. 2's genius is in its subtlety.  The course doesn't force itself on you, every hole is a fair test and an adventure in picking the right line, the right approach, and knowing that the miss is always short!  You did not want to go long on those greens....of course I went long and left on hole 8, which is the famous hole where Daly hit the moving ball.  I don't blame him.  I was in a similar spot to him and let's just say it was quite an adventure trying to get back up on the green.  What an experience though.  Finishing on 18 with a crowd watching from the patio of the clubhouse made the finish to the round just perfect.  Thankfully I didn't skull one into the patio.

We then moved over to the Mid-Pines resort.  First round there was at Pine Needles (which will be hosting its 4th US Women's Open in June) and all I can say is wow.  My favorite course of the trip.  Very different from the courses we played over at Pinehurst, it's a course that meanders up and down through the forest.  Everything about the experience of playing there was top notch and I can see why it is hosting it's 4th Open.  It's up there as one of my favorite courses that I've been able to play.

Then we went over to Mid-Pines for the afternoon.  It was not the best experience to start the round....we unfortunately got stuck behind some foursomes on a big guys trip.  Which is fine, that's the point of these places, but this group was so damn slow.  We were waiting from the second hole until about the 10th when it picked up a little bit.  I'm not just talking a minute or two wait, I'm talking two groups on the teebox, waiting 10 minutes to tee off, guys hitting their third duff from the tips (which they had zero business playing).  So I think our perception of the front 9 was probably clouded.  Didn't like it at all.  The back 9, however, was amazing.  So I'd play it again just to get the actual experience of the front and see if it changes.

Sunday morning we got out to Southern Pines.  We were hit with an unfortunate frost delay so we were only able to play 14 holes (played 1-10 then skipped over and played 15-18) since we had to catch flights.  Another very cool property and course, almost a mix of Pinehurst and Pine Needles.  Loved the course and like others have said, when it really fully grows in after the redesign it's going to be even more special.  I'll need to go back and play it again so I can actually play all 18 holes!

Alright, that got much longer than I thought.  Sorry for the words.  Next year planning on Tobacco Road, Quail Ridge, a Pinehurst course or two we didn't play, and Pine Needles/Southern Pines.

TL;DR: Pinehurst is amazing, I'm going back next year, and if you haven't been yet, make sure you find a way to make it happen.

Great right up..!  Glad your group liked it.  The bars in old town pinehurst are great to see and the Pinehurst Brewery has some excellent food /  local micro brews on tap plus a shuttle from the resort it nice when you have had a few LOL.

Sucks about Mid pines. I love Mid Pines and the slow play would of p*ssed off the guys I play with. Sad they did not make them move or something. Mid Pines I would say is one my favorite courses in the area but each time I played the course it was super early and it was pretty wide open.

50/50 rating in our last group on No.4 also.

No.2 is a true test.  It demands your full attention from tee to green. Laid out in front of you but NOT easy.  Having played it 3 times the first time I was not a fan honestly but the more I played it I started to "see it" and why it is so highly regarded.

So no Pine Needles? Excellent course and a must play right across the street from Mid Pines.  It was built for tourney golf and when you play it you know it.   That one is tough tough walk so I would recommend a cart on that course.

Personally the best I have played in Pinehurst is Dormie Club.  Problem is access as it is now part of the Dormie network so hard to get on and for some reason they always excluded it in any Dormie Club auctions they do.  Awesome C&C course.  It was hands down the favorite course of the groups the last two times we went.   Currently it is just you and the golf course and nothing around but trees in the middle of nowhere. If they don't develop the land around it into homes as planned (probably will build it out for the $$$$) it will stay a joy to play.

When you go back, besides the others you listed check out Mid South, that one surprised us. We thought it would "okay" and everyone really really liked it.

The Thistle Dhu is a load of fun and good wagers can be had.  The putter boy statue in the middle is cool to see.  Did they have the drink holders out at each putting hole when you were there?   Cradle is just a great / fun shot par 3 design simple as that.

......uggghhh stuck for 2 more months roughly and now you got me wanting to go back!!!  Who is down for late this year  😃

Oh yes we spent lots of time at the brewery, watched the college basketball games there.  It was great.

We all agreed we'd have to play Mid-Pines again, I think the slow play on the front clouded our judgment.  The back however was amazing.

We definitely played Pine Needles, it was in the write up, just probably lost in all the words 🙂  My favorite of all the courses.  We walked it as well but yes, very hilly!

Will definitely add Mid South to the list.  They did have the drink holders out at Thistle.  If I knew my wife wouldn't murder me for even asking to got there again later this year I'd be all for it lol.
