Are you a local sports guy? 
Commanders,Nats,Caps,Wizards?

Is there any city that has changed the names of two professional teams based on fear of offending?

Bullets and Redskins. 
That could be a nice trivia question. 

I live in Sterling and grew up in Maryland and then Northern Va.

How about that? We now have two current residents of the DC area participating, and your old commish called Northern Virgina his hometown from 1980 until I left for Las Vegas in the spring of 1996.

I'm not from the area originally, I came here for work a decade ago and have never left. Luckily I've mostly escaped DC-area sports fandom. One of my friends has Nats season tickets, so I'll cheer for them, but I'm definitely not a hardcore fan.

As a fan of this QB going back to his ealry Chargers days I say Mr. B there should be no worries for you. You are a proven winner. Just do now what feels right and your supporters will all be behind you.

I was a hardcore Skins fan and still root for them but with their dysfunctional owner it's really hard to get worked up over them like I did in my younger years. Still pull for the Caps and not really a Nats fan but did root for them in the World Series.  I grew up as a die hard Orioles fan but not really into baseball that much anymore. I bet online once in awhile mostly football and fantasy gaming stuff.  

But its just for more excitement in the sports world and the thrill of picking a winner.

Yeah, I was never a week-to-week sports bettor. Just the bigger events (Super Bowl, Finals, Majors, Indy 500, etc.) and some season-long bets. I think you're right about the thrill of picking a winner. That's one of the things I like about golf picking(/betting) - you're picking a guy out of a big pool of possible winners. It's not just saying that Team X will beat Team Y. It's always a long-shot, and it makes it way more exciting when your pick comes in. Even without any money on it, it's always a thrill when your guy is on the back nine on a Sunday with a shot, or is in contention with 10 laps left at an auto race, because it seemed so unlikely at the start of the event.

I  am a point in my life where saving money is actually a novel idea.

When I was young I thought 6 dollars for a beer at a football game was outrageous, so tail gating became paramount, I was usually hammered before I even got into the stadium.  Then it was much esier to fork over that kind of money because my pickled brain was on the I.V drip mode by that time.  I needed to keep the good mojo going!  

 

Now with health issues and money being tight there is no way in hell I am even sniffing a 19 dollar Michelob Ultra. At this point I do not even think I would drink one for 5 dollars. I would much rahter pony up a few extra dollars for a nice thick stout and call it a day.

Perhaps a Guinness laddy! 

Root for Shane Lowery to carve up Southern Hills  

I see a lot of chalky picks from the commish...he has a love fest going with J Thomas and J Spieth

I will remind him MIA Michelson is the defending PGA Champion.  Outlier or a harbinger of things to come, Tiger is a champion at Southern Hills and you need Tiger like A game to be on point here. J Thomas and Spieth are playing with tons of confidence right now, Spieth has the short game to contend Thomas does not.  He will fade on Sunday, he has to much on his plate with clothing lines, kids and wife to take his game to the next level. Spieth is a different story, he has Michelson like qaulities in his game.  The only thing he doesn't have is the ability to battle through adversity he folds like a lawn chair when he can't get his swing figured out.  You need guys who smell championships like Morikawa, Cantlay, Scheffler that have iron wills. Rahm is a favorite, and I concur, and I can't  understand why Thomas is a favorite over Spieth  

J Thomas is a fan favorite which the books are banking on.

The guys I love watching on the course are Cam Smith, Scheffler the cheaper version of DJ, and of course the man, the legend, the myth the man in Victory Nike Red! 

The Big Cat Tiger Woods!  Only Nicklaus, Larry Bird, Micheal Jordan, Tom Brady who I loathe but respect, Mariano Rivera, Reggie Jackson, Steph Curry, Dominick Hasek are the guys who have sack in big games.  They got big deals because of their moxy not big deals like Fowler, JT, and Spieth becasue they are winners in the Miss Congeniality on tour contest.

Rahm seems to stay the course which is why I like him.  DJ is an anomly he has gobs of skill but seems to be on weed when he plays. Spieth, Thomas, and Fowler are the Ameican poster boys on a GQ cover shoot with shirts and slacks that cost more than the average duffer can afford.  Koepka, can be thrown into that mix as well, he is just a c0ck strong buck who thinks porn stars and gambling is the next level just like Tiger did for awhile.

When reality of not winning sets in it will be intersting to see if he puts more emphasis on his game again, making the 40% or lower odds of makeable putts like he did when he won two PGA's in a row.  Rahm did that at Pebble and won. You need to make putts, Southern Hills winner will be a guys that misses some putts for birdie but always taps them in for a par with a few birdies here and there.  

My thoughts on the big Cat is that he might miss the cut.

I am happy is feeling better, but he's not grinding every week and the grind will wear on him mentally. I love the PGA Championship format and how they groom courses even more now than the US Open which I think is like watching Caddyshack 2  The only thing missing is wind mills and "Bunny Skylar's party"  Give me the Open, The Masters, and the PGA for unbridled golf entertainment, Daly and Michelson mocking the greens at US Opens was a harbinger of some of the outlandish setups they have at those venues.

So of all the vets in the PGA, who is the old wiley vet to pick, Tiger? No he is not playing enough.

Bubba?  Perhaps.

Zach Johnson, no way!

Stewart Cink?  Could be a Michelson story!

Henrik Stenson, not feeling that

Molinari...not unheard of

John Daly that would be must see TV!

Day is a possibility I see him starting to pop up here and there

Not feeling Tiger although "picks schmicks" this is for fun, rooting for tiger trumps anything else!

I will be rooting for Tiger Woods even if all three of my picks are in a tie with him.

Not going to shop for the bombs someone near the top will buck last years trend 

I konw Zelatoris missed the cut last week, but that Texas couse is what is wrong with the PGA tour, a course groomed for a birdie fest, not a true test of golf

I think Zelatoris rebounds this week and will be an alternate

Hovalnd seems to have the skillset for this type of event

Seems like a long time since Koepka and Dj have been relevant.  I think both of them start a comeback tour this week
