Did his chemistry with Brandle seem off?
Is this just an off week early year matchup?  Or will we see Jimmy in the post round GC broadcast more often?

I am bias because I love Notah

Whether you're at the start of a blossoming relationship or been with your significant other for years, every relationship goes through the same five stages. These five stages are attraction, reality, commitment, intimacy and finally, engagement.

As an outside observer, I'd speculate that Jimmy's relationship with Brandel is currently in the "reality" phase.

I'm not sure where Notah fits in at this point in time.

I mentioned the lack of chemistry and energy from Roberts when he was hosting Golf Central last week as well. My sense (this is all speculation) is that the cost-cutting execs at Comcast/NBC decided to give him a choice of an exit package like the other 400 poor souls who worked at GC in Orlando had to take, or to do this fill-in role at the Stamford HQ. He is ill-suited for the role, but took it.

Roberts and Lerner are more essayist than commentators IMO and should be saved for all the fluff pieces. Chamblee is more of historian and should have his own show regarding the history of golf and discussing the golf swing.....

As far as Begay is concerned, people must realize that most of the time he is in close proximity to the hole or tee box, He must whisper in order not to disturb the players. Begay was a player, and his expertise must not be undervalued....

As far as all of them are concerned.......when you're involved with a company that's looking to cut cost the more versatile you are the more job security you hold. I'm speaking from experience.

It is not just Jimmy Roberts. Since the move from Orlando to Stamford, there has been no chemistry between the on the air presenters. It is now just a paycheck for everyone and they have a time slot to fill. Also the time slot they fill is based on when the studio is available, not when it is the best time for the show.

And it sure seems like he is a really nice guy - I thought he and Jamie handled the show dedicated to Tim Rosaforte really well.

In the end, it's pro golf and most of the time the material you have to work with isn't all that compelling. "Hey Damon, we are obligated to mention the odds and hot picks and value bets 30 times per show, so what's your take the 29th time around?" "Look, Kisner and his wife are snorkeling!" "Tiger sneezed today!"

Very few know, and even fewer care, that Roberts chose to use the name "Jimmy" in honor of his sportscasting hero, Jimmy "the Greek" Snyder.

Phyllis George was the reason I watched football as a kid.

I remember they'd be on when we got home from church on Sundays!

Jimmy said, "I'll just drop the 'R' from Jimmy the Greek and buy some sweaters!" (Yes, I really don't mind him, lol).

I'd have given Musberger $5 to just once say, "You're looking live at Phyllis George!"

I don’t dislike Jimmy, but he’s not a studio type. He’s best as an interviewer. Comcast was already paying him, he was already living up north, so they paid him a little more to do studio work. I prefer Ryan Burr, but he’s with ESPN now.

I don't need him spoiling my biathlon coverage with some fluff piece about the athlete from Belarus.

But that athlete has overcome severe trauma in her life.  When she was 6 her dog, was hit by a car, but she found the strength to overcome it.  When she was 9, the next dog had cancer.  While most people would crumble having been through two(TWO!!!) traumas such as those, she persevered.  And then, just as she was on the cusp of qualifying for the Olympics, on the start line she discovered that her great aunt twice removed who she once visited in South America came down with a bad cough, which combined with the fact she also learned that her ski wax was 1% grippier than her competitors, almost ruined her entire dream, but she summoned the courage of the 9 year old from deep within, and with the help of a raft of doping disqualifications, turned her 9th place finish into an Olympic berth.

These truly are the stories that need to be celebrated.

Most of us watch sports in general to deviate from real life such as those above.......IMO

So why does Roberts and Lerner drag down fun and exciting events with their sappy commentary?

just wondering how many viewers watch for these kind of stories.......or stories in general.

I think it's the NBC Olympics mentality.  Men will watch sports regardless.  This is the stuff that draws the women.  OR so goes the thinking.

But TV people have been known to lack awareness outside of their own bubble, so....

Perhaps you're right..... and I have lost my sensitive side ...... Perhaps it's just me who tunes in for the competition and find the story lines lame and distracting. Guess that I could always turn the channel and take my business elsewhere........

The on-camera people like Roberts and Lerner just do what they are told by their producers, many of whom seem to like these emotional, heart-tugging features. The leading exponent of this sort of thing in recent years has been Tom Rinaldi, whom I find absolutely intolerable. Luckily, with him now at Fox, I see less of him than I did when he was with ESPN.
