Thanks for the top line pics. of the irons. That helped.

I'm torn between the AP2's and the Combo set (ZB's).

What is the deal with the hight toe on the new Camerons? I'll have to see that in person to see if I like that or not. They are always tweaking things that really don't need it at some times!

For those wondering about the Diamana shaft... That is the new "STOCK" Diamana offering from Titleist. Not sure if it is different than the Diamana, or what.

For both drivers and fairways in 2008.[/quote]

No, not a sale rep...but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. :friends::friends:

The majority of the staff loved the AP2 so much they went with these. The retail price and Manufacturer required price (MRP) will be $999 w/ PX or DG. The heads cost quite a bit more to make then a standard forging with the tungsten sole and pocket cavity.

For those who asked about the ZB compared to 735.CM It is a totally different animal. Smaller blade true carbon steel construction a bit less forgiving then the 735, but very clean. I would basically describe them as an ubdated 695 combo set.

With the plyability of the AP2 I cannot see many people not jumping all over this iron. Oh one other interesting side note Titleist was considering renaming this line the DCI (Oldie but Goodie) but decided against it at the last minute. I think I would have loved seeing that name again, It brings back memories from when Titleist was THE BEST iron maker in the business. I still love these irons though.

Reading this does anyone else wonder exactly why Titliest needed to come out with a new combo set?

Because of demand. A lot of players were trying to make combination sets of 695 CB and MBs. That didn't work very well because of the difference between the two sets in lofts and bounce angles. It sounds like the popularity of the AP2s may make this a non-issue. Who was to know???

Don't get me wrong, the ZB & ZM will appeal to the traditional Titleist user in terms of feel and playability. The AP2 will garner a lot of interest from players that have been looking for a bit of forgiveness in a very bladelike appearance. Also, the ZB will be selling for less then the AP2 iron w/ stock DGs300.

Tim,

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound as though I was speaking for you.

When I first saw the pictures of all the new irons, the ZMs were what I was going for. Complete no brainer. Now after hearing all the glowing reviews of the AP2s from the guys who have hit them, I know I won't be going back to blades. In fact, I am ordering a combo set of AP1 3 and 4 irons, with AP2 5-PW! Total turnabout for me...

I was of the same mindset going into my fitting I thought the ZB's were looking really good coming from 695cb's however the AP2's do everything I need and give me better target proximity. I got fit for a 4-pw set with Project X 6.5 std length and lie(formerly +1/2, 2 flat Project x 6.5) which will be a big change. Our head pro got fit for AP1's and he is stoked the rest of us got fit for AP2's. I am not sure how successful the ZM/ZB's will be in the market considering the feel and performance of the AP2's and AP1's.

So I do want to try the AP2, but am still wondering if you can remove the sticker from the back?

Or does it in fact affect playability?

BP

I am sure you can take them out but be careful because the rubber fill in the pocket cavity is just barely below where the medalion sits. Perhaps heating from the front would work better. I know right now I am not going to pull the insert off, perhaps when I get my demo clubs in but not this set.

great pics and commentary !

handicap question...should mid-cappers avoid the AP2's for sure ? I am a 15....love the look of the AP2's...but the AP1's probably more for my ability? thanks

I put a bit more range time in with these clubs today.

Conditions: 37 degrees crosswind from left to right at about 15-20 MPH.

AP2 w/ PX 5.5 vs ZB w/ DGS300 all stock setup

The AP2 hit very high compared to the ZB. As I stated before I have never been a PX fan I like the butt soft tip stiff feel of the DG, but one thing I never did was hit the PX high and with the AP2 they stayed in the air forever. ( Some wind aided this) The amazing part about it though was they held their line better then the ZB by about 5 yards. The wind kept taking the ZB right, but the AP2 had just a little tail to it even though it was a higher ball flight.

Obviously I have not had ideal testing conditions, but the AP2 just seems to really want to go where you aim it.

As for the individual who asked if they should look at the AP2 as a 15 capper I would say give it a go. It does not hurt to try them by anymeans. I think if you are a decent ball stricker you could get away with these and if nothing else it will force you to concentrate on making solid contact. Which is one reason I will put a 10-15 capper into a smaller head when fitting them, if you concentrate more you think about solid contact instead of hitting it harder and farther and that usually equates to better scores! :ok:

Ok so here are some of the pics I took today

Info pertaining to the Scotty Cameron Studio Select line:

Weight: "Heavy" heads are available through custom 35" can be 330 or 340 gram NOT 350

34" can be 340 gram or 350 gram etc.

Also you can make the putter more toe heavy or heel heavy by ordering a 15 or 20 gram weight in one and 5 grams less in the other.

Great pictures and post!!!

I don't understand the logic of NOT allowing 35" and 350g.

It seems there will be more customers ordering heavy toes or heels than 35"/350g combinations... :ok:

Shouldn't the word "Select" and the idea behind it, suggest that the choice is given to the customer?

It's a pity cause I really liked the MidSlant...

Thanks for the post.

Have a great game

Let me ask you something...

Why on earth would you want to take out the decal in the back? It isn't that ugly! In fact, I believe that it just might play a bit part in the vibration dampening technology of the iron. (Like with the Cleveland iron sets. I think Cleveland called it VAS.) If you take out the decal only because of "looks", I highly doubt that the set of irons will be worth more money to anyone if you decide to sell them if the decals are removed. You could also damage them in some way with too much heat if you try!

You can't see it from address, so why worry about how it looks?!

Just asking!

Because the appearance of the back of a club builds a sort of confidence. IMHO

I thought that they might look useable if the logo was gone. They look great from address, but they are ugly from the back. I am very interested to see how they play since the reviews are so positive for an ugly club.

The way Titleist irons or any other depreciate Im not consired about resale. Now if the sticker in fact plays into the playability of the iron of course I would want it leave it be. Im a bit traditional, but I do like to win money, so will give anything a fair chance.

Just curious, I like the new cobras better anyway.

Very quick hijack...

Is that a V2 shaft in the Cobra l4v? How does that shaft work with that head? I'd like to go this direction but haven't found someone who's actually hit it...

Thanks Pat, but don't make people think I am Robo or Lama long :friends: :ok:

I can bring the heat pretty well and this driver seems to give me more confidence then my current gamer, but I need to get a chance to play some golf ON THE COUSE before I can figure out if this is everything it is supposed to be. I might actually play a quick nine this afternoon. It is supposed tto hit 40 degrees with little to no wind so I'll do a comparison test and see!

Back to topic:

I am not sure if everyone knows this or not, but the Titleist fitting system will have all 4 heads AP1, AP2, ZB, & ZM with interchangable shafts for fitting. So in theory I or any other retailer should be able to order some "specialty shafts" X100 PX 6.5 etc etc, at the inquiring customers expense, with the fitting sleeve attached and then be able to test the exact combo the player is requesting in all the different heads. I am really excited about this for Titleists irons because I have found that their irons react greater to shaft changes then other manufacturer's offerings.

I just ordered a set of ZBs, i am starting to rethink that with all of the good reviews of the AP2s

Don't be the ZB's are a great set as well. The ZB will be more workable lower ball flight in the middle and short irons and have a traditional Titleist feel. The AP2 will still feel great, but does not have quite the same feel as the older 690...series. If you like a traditional forged club you will absolutely LOVE the ZB's.

Hear you but I think on looks alone the AP2's are doing it for me. Adam Scott likes them also. He was all over the 695mb's before the AP2's.

The AP2's look great, feel great, and play great, but for someone who has been entrenched in Titleist irons for a long time the feel is not the same, not bad, but not the same. The ZB is for the traditional Titleist iron player even though the head itself does not look traditional from the back. The AP2 is a whole different segment of player.

Went to my local golf shop and instead of being at a big name retailer, the Titleist rep was hanging out at the small time store. I walked in and saw the new red and black Titleist staff bag filled with goodies. Picked up the AP2 pitching wedge, hit two balls and placed my order. Saw the ZB and ZM and AP1, as well as the new Camerons. The new Camerons look and feel really great. Rep also said new driver and wedges in the fall. He was unsure of TVD wedges though....
