That's just one thing that makes Phil a fan favorite.  He is the Arnold Palmer of the current era.

I once played golf with an older gentleman who happened to be Arnold Palmer's caddy when he won the US Open (I think)  in Detroit. The caddy was a kid at the time (as most were), he only gave him a ball and a glove.

So you're stating Phil is as much of a plumber as Arnie was in his day? Not a great comparison.

Maybe for his on course risk taking?  I guess so. Phil signs a ton of autographs, but nothing like Palmer and guarantee Phil doesn't have a warehouse full of personal correspondence with every fan who has ever written to him like Palmer had (and nobody has probably done what Arnie did or even close to the way he did it).

Tiger embodied both the swashbuckling of Arnie in more successful and dramatic ways than Phil, and the chess playing genius mentality of Jack so there's that.

In terms of on course and off course and everything all around about "growing" the game, Tiger is the Arnold Palmer of what can only be described as the Tiger era.

I can't believe I just said that, but there it is.

But like Arnie, not the GOAT!!

Kids weren't caddies in pro tourneys in the 60's

Are you confusing Francis Ouimet with Arnold Palmer ?

Arnie was known for his generosity- like in building a hospital

The other guy's hobbies include insider trading, college admission scandals and getting stiffed by bookies

Sorry, it was the US Amateur, and yes they were supposed to get paid. The guy told me that a British guy paid his kid caddie well. And then when the USGA invited the caddie to the big party to celebrate Arnie's win (he attended), Arnold would not even speak to him at all. The USGA gave the caddy a bunch of stuff for attending the event. By that time, the guy was a retired firefighter. The caddy was Jimmy Gill and they were supposed to be paid for caddying that week by their player.

Just re-telling a story as told to me first hand from Jimmy Gill himself.

Phil spends 1M+ gambling in Vegas style.  I've heard plenty of stories about Arnie from my uncle, who was acquainted.  IMO Phil is NOT even close to Arnie, except for chatting with gallery patrons.

Arnold personally responded to every letter, didn't matter the count, using his personal time.  Phil makes it look good at events, but off course, nada.  Check out A.Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando.  Only noticeable excitement Phil caused, poo-pooing the PGA and jumping ship for offshore greed, even if it means aligning himself with questionable Norman, and funding & connections of S.A leadership; something AP would NEVER consider.  Arnie's army is massive. Phil has more of a platoon.

You have no idea what Phil does and the charities he supports.

But your Phil hate is quite clear.

I'll help you out.

In 2019, The Mickelson Foundation (a public 501(c)3 foundation) became the host organization of The American Express PGA Tour event held each January in Palm Springs, California. The event was founded by Bob and Dolores Hope in 1960 and is one of the longest running events on the PGA Tour. Mickelson, a two-time champion of The American Express, joins Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Arnold Palmer as the only PGA Tour players to host an official event. The first year of the event was a massive success as $1 million was raised for charities in the Coachella Valley

In 2004, Phil and Amy joined forces with the PGA Tour to create Birdies For the Brave, which is the PGA Tour’s national military outreach platform. Today, the program encompasses a broad spectrum of military outreach and appreciation activities conducted during PGA TOUR tournaments, as well as a series of fundraising events hosted at the TOUR’s TPC clubs and partner courses across the nation – an effort that has raised much-needed funds for military homefront charities that are supported by PGA TOUR players, which provide direct services for military members, veterans, and their families ranging from financial aid and rehabilitation programs to housing, counseling and educational scholarships and career development and recruitment.

In 2012, Phil Mickelson and KPMG joined together to create “Blue for Books” benefitting KPMG Family for Literacy (KFFL). This program is a nationwide charitable initiative designed to put thousands of books into the hands of children in need, through the sale of KPMG blue golf hats, just like the hat Mickelson wears on the PGA TOUR. For each hat sold, KPMG donates three new books to children from low-income families. KFFL has distributed more than two million books to young readers. Since its founding, the program has refurbished nine libraries and donated over 212,000 books through blue hat sales.

Amazing video. Phil is one of the greatest of all time. Having the COURAGE to stand up against the corruption and shilling makes him even greater in my eyes. Phil makes it rain, HE earned the money and HE should decide how it is distributed. It should go to the everyday people working and volunteering at the course, not the ivory tower pencilnecks back the office.
