Shot Scope PRO LX+

Recommended Posts

  • 1 month later...

I just put my order in. I've knocked the idea of on course shot tracking around for a while and used TM's myRoundPro for a few rounds. I really like the insights, and the busting of my "delusions of grandeur" helped my game. Now that it is a subscription service, I hope this will be a better alternative. I've got the Bushnell Wingman which is good but not a rangefinder. Hopefully this system will complement and not get in the way of an enjoyable round.

While I do not have this particular product I do use the Shot Scope V3. Much like the Arcos but without the subscription service. Gives you a lot of data to know where you can improve your game. I attached a couple screen shots of some of the data it gives. This is off of the two rounds I have played this year. I like the Shot Scope product that I have. I already had a Blue Tees range finder so I did not need the Pro. Additionally I do not want to have to carry that little device around the green when putting and using the "Pin Collect" feature for tracking purposes. I would go with the V3 personally even if I didnt already own a range finder.

I recently purchased my first range finder, a Shot Scope LX+.  Previously I used the 18birdies app as a GPS to get my distances.  I have gone back and forth about a dedicated GPS or a range finder and this seemed like a great opportunity to try both.  I also liked the idea of the tags for the clubs. I have now used this setup playing a few rounds and have started forming my opinion.

LX RangeFinder:

  • The rangefinder seems well done and overall seems to be a nice unit.

Likes:

  • It seems to pick up the flag pretty quickly.
  • Haptic buzz when it locks on
  • Slope
  • Ability to toggle between red/black text in the view
  • The arch for the thumb makes the unit sit nicely in your hand.
  • The carrying case seems nice and equivalent to a bushnell case.
  • Very cool that the h4 unit can connect with magnet allowing you to easily see the GPS front/center/back yardages.
  • Regular CR123 battery
  • With the GPS unit attached it has a nice weight (not too light).

Dislikes:

  • Not having a magnet like my buddy's bushnell makes the general use of the rangefinder seem more difficult and less accessible if riding in a cart.

H4 GPS:

  • This unit is very small and the magnet allows it to attach to the rangefinder or the included belt clip.  The battery life of the GPS unit seems to give you two rounds.

Likes:

  • Distances are easy to see/understand
  • Haptic buzz when you touch a tag to it.
  • There is additional info like hazard distances if you want to toggle through them.
  • Being able to switch from the gps to the included belt clip is nice

Dislikes:

  • I wish the rechargeable battery life was longer.  It easily lasts a single round and could possibly last two.  You end up having to bring the H4 inside to charge it and then you risk forgetting the GPS or the whole unit versus leaving it in your golf bag.
  • Size: As a stand-alone device, I wouldn't mind for this to be a bit bigger.  I realize that wouldn't work as well for the GPS attachment.
  • Tagging.  I am finding getting accustomed to this difficult.  I forget to tag around the green.   I forget when things go wrong like after duffing a shot.  I am still learning to use it, but I understand why this isn't a popular approach.
  • Closing out the hole when putting.  It can feel a bit intrusive to fiddle with the H4 as everyone is putting out close to the hole.

Overall, I like the unit and it is a great opportunity to try multiple technologies at once.  Some might see trying to use the rangefinder, gps, and tagging all at once as technology overload.  I feel like the GPS is most useful for me at the moment, but I definitely see a need for a rangefinder in some circumstances.  I like the idea of more stats, but I am undecided on tagging at this point.

I used to use the original Game Golf so tagging would not be an issue for me as it quickly became habit. I see using the H4 attached to the rangefinder awkward to use and if you use it that way for full shots, I see it intrusive to use around and on the green when you typically do not carry your rangefinder with you. I much prefer the convenience and limited interaction with V3 watch, no taking it on and off the rangefinder or your belt to use.

The H4 with or without the rangefinder is a nice alternative for those that despise wearing a watch or those that have concerns about a shot being missed, not detected, as the vibration feedback is reassuring. However, I have very, very few missed shots with the V3 and when I do there is a specific reason, such as a duffed shot or recording the number of actual putts instead of the number of times I used the putter.

I just bought one. I was debating but Amazon has it for 259.99 and made my decision easier. If I like it I'll sell my XE and Phantom 2. If not I just return it.

That price is for the LX rangefinder which does not include the H4 GPS / shot tracking device.

ended up returning.

Laser felt bulkier than my bushnell. I like placing it in my back pocket.

I didnt like the lack of hazard display like you get on a garmin golf watch.

The club tags were too inaccurate for me and i couldnt feel the vibration through the belt when a club was synced

Sad to hear, will soon order a Pro Lx + myself. Hope I get a different experience than what you got. Thinking the H4 unit should be easy to put on the stroller and then the binoculars for exact measurements.

I have a bit of a hard time having a watch on my arm as I think it bothers me too much. And the H4 feels like it can be damn easy to have mounted on the cart with good battery life, etc.

battery life was less than 50% after a 4hr round

Biggest issue is all the buttons make it difficult to put a magnet strap on it.  The ones I tried in the only place you could put it would hold the device on the rail of the cart over bumps.  I like the units with built in magnet, not sure why they didn't add that to the range finder, it's a huge miss.

I wanted to like the Shot Scope, but it’s going back. Compared to my Bushnell the Shot Scope optics are bad. The red view is unusable.

I was excited about the data tracking and OK with manual tracking. However, I have a Super Stroke grip so I can’t use the putter tag, and I found the Pin Collect feature to be a poor solution.

They sell a set of 3 putter tags, two of which have no threads and are self-stick. Or you can just cut the threads off the putter tag that comes with it and use glue, double-sided tape or what ever to affix it to your putter. I have two back weighted putters where I have done that. I have the V3 watch and think it is great!
