The secret?  A 3" section of pool noodle, sliced lengthwise down the middle to create a "C" shape.

 

Just place this around the waistband of your favorite trousers, just above the trail pocket, and start swinging making sure to get your trail elbow in front of the noodle!  

 

IT'S THAT EASY!

 

 

 

Really though - I wanted to share this "hack" as I've struggled with a stuck right elbow for a while, and the mental images / drills that my coach gave me just didn't quite click for me.  While watching some Gankas videos with the G Box, I started to wonder how I could achieve the same result and came up with this.  Not sure if anyone else has done the same, but I wanted to share.

 

The difference has been pretty impressive.  I went from wide open hips with my right elbow at or sometimes behind my pocket - to being able to get it down a little more in front of me with a more Hovland-esque technique.

 

I'm now able to really release the club without fear of a snap hook (or at least, as frequently)

I gained distance

I feel more comfortable working the ball both ways (I went through a period where I could not produce a fade for the life of me)

AND - my right heel stays planted a bit longer (which has irritated me for a LONG time)

 

It's an incredibly low cost, low risk exercise - AND - a training aid you can hit shots with  (which I love).

You beat me to it. I think the bottle also would allow more feedback (audibly) and without interfering with your swing at all.

Do you think you could use the water bottle drill if you were an individual that got stuck? Tell yourself to not hit the water bottle?

I hadn't seen this, but this is another great way to solve for a similar thing!  His purpose is the opposite of mine, but that doesn't really matter.  

 

The one thing I prefer about the noodle is that you can reposition it to exaggerate the feel in practice swings by moving it closer to your belt buckle.  The noodle is also "break away".  If you hit it with your elbow, it just falls off.  With the water bottle, you have the potential to bounce your elbow and put (another) hole in the wall if you're hitting in a confined space.  😄. 

 

In either case, anything that can help that is cheap, easy, and usable with a full swing is great.  Thanks!
