Any Apple Watch Series 7 users?

Moving on from my Garmin S60 watch and am looking to upgrade. Main sport is golf and I really only need distances, from a glance. I use a rangefinder on the course as well. Wanting something semi-fancy, bigger face, budget up to 1K and am considering Garmin Fenix 6X sapphire, 7X sapphire, Epix V2, Apple Watch Series 7. 

 

6X doesn't have a touchscreen, which I like.

7X is a little pricey but looks like the lead time can be up to 8 weeks. 

Epix V2. has too small of a face.

 

Anyone using the Apple Watch series 7 for basic golf functions? 

 

My concerns with the Apple watch are:

Battery life when in GPS mode.

3rd party apps, which needs to be launched on the phone, prior to opening on the watch.

Does the GPS function provide yardage from the watch or the location of the phone? 

 

I've always been an iPhone user and all the other Apple functions are nice.

 I have a S62 and a series 7 Apple Watch. Using the Tag Heuer app. Once  you set the course you are playing, it literally has GPS signal instantly! The S62 hunts for awhile and finds a signal and works perfectly. What I love about the Tag App is when I play unknown courses, I can use the crown dial and roll to exact yardage to hazard. Really great app and love the watch. Rolexs are now in the self winder. S62 gets hauled out once in awhile now. I like my S62 but navigating the menus on it can be cumbersome when compared to the smoothness of the Apple apps interface. GPS signal is from watch. No need to open Tag App to play. It syncs automatically though.

Is the Tag Heuer app free or a pay service for Apple users?

When in GPS mode, does the battery on the Apple watch last 18+ holes and more? 

Accuracy of GPS on Apple Watch, for the pre-loaded courses? 

 

Still back and forth on watch selection- After looking at the Epix gen 2, I really like the look and face size is actually good, not small. Like the sapphire edition but it's on backorder. Apple Watch series 7 is still an option and in stock. Looking at a used Tag Connected Golf 45 as well.

Tag is a pay service,  watch battery lasts 18 holes and when finished has about 15-20 % juice left. Before I trusted it, I wore both my S62 and Apple Watch. TAG GPS is spot on and I enjoy using it more tha the Garmin, as I can quickly dial to hazards and move the pin area all around with ease. The Garmin is still an amazing piece of tech and do miss using the S62 slope function at times. All in all, it’s worth the price to me. Has as many courses as Garmin.

Oh man the feature to scroll to hazards and get the yardage sounds like exactly what I've been looking for.

 

I used Hole 19 last year and it does OK - but I was often having to get my phone out and try to find some shade to see the screen of the phone to figure out how far it was to a bunker or lake or whatever.  Being able to do that on the watch sounds perfect...

I love the tag app. I use it in conjunction with my range finder and couldn’t be happier.
