The entire UK is gonna be pretty much at a standstill over the next few days. She was kind of a big deal to them.

i'm aware she was a big deal ... just don't know if they're calling off the tournament ... big deal to call off the tournament ... not saying what they should do or not do ...

Richard Bland was on the 15th hole when play was halted at 6:32 p.m. BST and described the scene as surreal. The Englishman also said he doesn’t expect the tournament to continue. “I cleared out my locker,” he said. “This is too big.”

I'd be surprised if the tournament continued.  It just wouldn't be proper to do so at this time, the UK is in mourning.

Mostly Wishon with a few Tour Edge Exotics, Cobra, Cleveland, and one Odyssey mixed in.

Apples to oranges comparison.

It's a different country with different traditions.  The current royal family has been in place since 1066 when William the Conqueror defeated the Saxons.  A whole lot of history and tradition.

EDIT:  I forgot about Oliver and the Roundheads.

I was actually curious. Imagine Rory leading on 16th at the Open at Royal Liverpool and something like this happens.

It looks like the BMW PGA Championship DP World Tour tournament at the Wentworth Club in Virginia Water, Surrey, England will be suspended for at least ten days in respect for the Queen's passing today.

There are two things you can learn by stopping your backswing at the top and checking the position of your hands: how many hands you have, and which one is wearing the glove.

Shame they won’t tell my boss that as I bet I still have to work today!

If the EPL is postponing games, the Test between England and SA has been cancelled and horse racing is suspended then I strongly doubt the DPWT would not do the same.

Hard to put in to words how monumental the passing of Queen Elizabeth II is here in the UK. Nothing in the Country is the same. Everything which was in place for today, tomorrow and next week has changed. I am not a huge Royalist, I used the bank holiday that we had for William and Kate's wedding to go play golf but the Queen and her passing is an moment in modern British history which is on it's own stratosphere. To describe her as an icon would simply be a disservice to her.

Whilst a handful of British teams played in European matches last night, the only reason for that was that it was simply too late to cancel them, some had already started. Today nothing that matters will run. With the exception of a sitting to allow MP's to pay tribute to Her Majesty, all business in parliament has been postponed. Court's up and down the land will adjourn all but essential business. Nationwide strikes which were due to halt the delivery of all mail and cripple the train network have been cancelled.

Sport matters in a different way to national institutions. It is the distraction that allows us to forget the woes of the world however for today, for this weekend the UK is unlikely to want t think about very much else. With that said, I would be gobsmacked if another ball is struck at the BMW PGA this week and the any sport worth watching this weekend will not come from here in the UK.

Nor am I a royalist but I sat in a church isle in a tiny village in the Tyne Valley, in 1953, as a 6-year-old, and watched the Coronation on a TV the size of an I-pad. ER2 was a extraordinary lady who got on with the job until the sad end.

As our Mum, I believe she would have preferred we also got on with the job and honour her life in our own ways.

Nicely said, I am not a Royalist either but it's hard to ignore the significance of this. I tried explaining to my 7 year old just how long she's been the Queen for and that William will probably be King for most of her lifetime. I'm glad I didn't go down to Wentworth now, I usually do. Would of been a 4 hour wasted drive.

This is a difficult situation, because of the heavily weighted European Tour system towards flagship events, they can't really afford to call this off. And can't really get the players to play another time. The schedule is already set. You can't get those players back together easily. And if so, certain players could end up being cost a card or exemptions into certain events.

Almost certainly.

It being hosted by the R&A it is highly likely to have been called off.

https://www.europeantour.com/dpworld-tour/rolex/news/articles/detail/update-on-the-bmw-pga-championship-today-s-play-suspended/

On behalf of our members and everyone connected with the European Tour group and the BMW PGA Championship, it is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

She truly was an inspiration to people the world over.

Out of respect for Her Majesty and the Royal Family, play has been suspended at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club for the remainder of Thursday and flags at Wentworth Club will be lowered to half-mast.

Furthermore, no play will take place at the BMW PGA Championship on Friday and the golf course and practice facilities will be closed.

Further updates on the resumption of play will be provided in due course.

Our deepest sympathies and condolences are with the Royal Family at this time.

Err, no.
Even though the Windsors try their best to argue it by using side branches of side branches of side branches of family trees.
There were at least two clear-cut (pardon the pun) interruptions, the battle of Bosworth and the execution of Charles I. Plus the so-called "Glorious Revolution". Remembering history, I can't believe that the new king sticked with "Charles" and did not use one of his other names.
If you claim that this current royal family has been in place since 1066 in England, you can also argue that this current royal family has been in place for centuries in every European country as long as they had a monarchy, because they are all relatives of each other in some shape or form.
BTW, when William becomes king after his father, there will be a Stuart on the throne again, if you look at it in a certain way. 😉

EDIT: I didn't see bekgolf's edit before I wrote this. 😁

I thought the law was/is that a catholic could not be the monarch and the line went through the Dutch throne after the Stuarts: William of Orange and then the Hanoverians.

I understand it completely. I’ll be checking in on my British buds to see how they are doing.

I can at the same time think that any fandom for celebrities, families, and politicians is complete poppycock.
