Garcia’s professed support of the DP World Tour has never been much in evidence at its flagship event, where he has appeared only twice in the past 22 years. On his last showing, in 2014, he quit after one round. If nothing else, this week indicated how little he has changed in the intervening years.

In Thursday’s first round, Garcia shot a 76 that had him firmly at the arse-end of the leaderboard. He was finished by the time news broke of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, which prompted a suspension of play and reduced the championship to 54 holes. When matters resumed on Saturday, he was announced as having withdrawn. A few hours later, he was sideline at the Texas-Alabama game in Austin, 5,000 miles from Wentworth. He did not extend tournament organizers the courtesy of an explanation for his WD.

Same clown that spit into a cup after missing a putt.  El Nino and that is not a compliment.

This guy just needs to go away.  Not good for any part of the game LIV or not.

Not the same circumstances.

Interestingly, Padraig Harrington missed the BMW/Volvo PGA Championship a few times in his prime because he did not enjoy playing Wentworth.

Retief Goosen was ify about it too: quality of the previous greens.

LIV did have 2 players in the top 5 and 5 in the top 25.

Yes, the strategy of the DPWT became clear with the Ryder Cup picks announced and the results from eligible LIV golfers at Wentworth and the entry into this week’s Italian Open.

An insurance against the wrong result at court for the DPWT. Such a shame folk cannot resolve things out-of-court.

I was there on the Saturday, have to say mixed feelings about the event and pro golf generally at the mo -

My main issue was the crowd, beer on sale everywhere, leading to quite a bit of yobbery and just generally loud obnoxious behaviour. Very tiresome, with lots of kids about.

The average standard of the long game was phenomenal really, the way that almost the whole field can pound a 6 iron 210  - 220 extremely high with oodles of spin. This lot are wrx long. Less impressive was the chipping and putting, slightly claggy English autumn parkland grass (not as heath like as Sunningdale etc) led to a lot of tentative stabs.

Wentworth at 7,300 yards was not up to the task really, had no defence even after all the money spent in recent years. A lot of the fairways (3,4,6 9 etc.) played really wide and players had to be very crooked to be in trouble, even in softer conditions there were quite a few 3 woods and driving irons used. I appreciate there are more tiers in the greens than there used to be, but there's not really any run off / collection areas which would have livened things up a bit.

Well done to some of the American players for coming over, appreciated.

Glad to see Shane win, like watching him, a less grumpy and slightly more talented version of Darren Clark imho.

Found this on the Friday of The Open. The number of people who had far too much drink than was good for them and who behaved accordingly really took me aback.

Great tournament, even uptil the last putts. Hope the DP tour stays allowing LIV players next year too. Interesting to see how their golf will hold up with time.

They may allow LIV players but why would any LIV player enter unless they have nothing else to do that week. Lowry made less then 2 million for winning. Last LIV event winner took home more then 4.5 million and those further down the list made a lot more then anyone down the list at the BMW.  Regular DP tour evets pay peanuts compared to any LIV event.

Please spare me the "it's not about money" comments. People play professional golf to get paid. Why not maximize your return?

At the cost of only doing something like Holiday on Ice Golf... I think its a great idea for blokes like Stenson and Bubba, with the best years behind them. But I guess guys like Cam Smith would still like to play world class Golf. IDK if the likes of Westwood and Poulter will bother to show up if they get admitted to play Wentworth next year but I hope so.

To more directly counter your statement above I guess a guy called Eldrick has got all the money in the world, and could bloody well drink pina coladas for the rest of his life, but he goes through hell to play competitive Golf anyways. I have a strong suspicion that those guys feel the same as JK Rowlings felt for all her HP money - that gave her time to write books. Without golf all those guys are mediocres in the world. Its golf they excel in and I think they pretty much gets their pleasure from being good at just that. And with all the zillions they have, they can afford to play any golf tournament they like,  being paid only coffee money.

Is there any reason why the LIV Tour and it's participating players in the BMW at Wentworth would not see it as a major PR opportunity to promote their brand? All but Garcia seem to have been on message.

I know the DP World Tour are seeking to apply financial sanctions on Garcia, at the very least, which is of little concern to LIV tour officials. However it must have crossed their minds that Garcia is a loose cannon and his behaviour firstly reflects badly on LIV and secondly, how long will it be before Garcia turns on them?

In their position I would be limiting my losses and endeavouring to turn a bad image to good one by terminating my relationship with Garcia forthwith.

A few said their reason for going LIV was among other things less tournament play. The only reasons to play DP Tour are possibly prior sponsor commitments or maybe world ranking points, which given the field in most DP Tour events, is minimal at best.  As to Woods his world has been golf and only golf since pretty much birth. Not all professional golfers have such a limited range of interests. Woods made a mess of his personal life and now only has golf, every other week or so with his kids and the slut of the day/week/month/year etc.

Tiger? He got wide range of interests 🤣
