Depending on my fitting outcome and recommendations I’m having a putter blow out sale if I go PLD Custom. Down to one so I have no choice but to stick with it 🙂

I doubt it as well but I would reach out to Ping and ask. They were very helpful answering a lot of my questions prior to me booking my fitting.

Haven’t been through my fitting yet but I I believe anything they offer. You can’t spec KBS, Stability, LAPG or any aftermarket shaft but any product PING offers is fair game. Same with grips., and surprisingly they offer many of both.

The PLD page on the Ping site is geo-blocked for anyone outside the USA, what are on those pages? Does it have the info about the putters or just a brief overview of each program?

 

Also for the Canadians have you been able to get a cradle or no for a virtual fitting?

You see people act like Canada is some exotic foreign land where golf is a second thought. Despite the fact we have a PING HQ here that could easily ship out cradles to Canadian customers.

Just went through fitting (virtual).  Shaft - graphite/steel (chrome or black).  Grips - full assortment of all Ping grips, but they said they are also willing to source other brands if you so desire.

Had my zoom meeting with Alex yesterday.  He's as good as everyone on here has already said if not better!  We went a little over our time just chatting golf and putters.  We nailed down what my specs should be, and we landed on an Anser 2D in stainless with deep milling and matte black finish. 

 

I had a thought after our session about the back cavity as I've seen some photos where the PING logo takes up the full cavity and others that have a smaller PING logo and three lines underneath.  Personally, I prefer the larger logo without the lines.  When I reached out to Alex about this request I expected to hear that certain models only come a certain way.  He responded promptly letting me know that the ones without 3 lines were early proto heads and they currently didn't have anymore of them, but that he was talking with the shop to see if they could mill one out with the larger PING.  Two hours later he sent me a picture (attached) of a stainless Anser 2D with the larger PING saying this happened to be the only putter on campus with those graphics and it was mine. 

 

The level of attention he gave me is ridiculous, they truly treat you like I would imagine they do their tour pros.  They encourage you to build the putter you want!  It was a great experience and I'll recommend this program to anyone looking for a custom putter.  Can't wait to get it in my bag!

my birthday is in december and my wife is on board with getting me a PLD because she’s awesome. 

 

but it looks like they don’t take appointments more than a month or so out.

He’ll recommend models and necks depending on the data , but ultimately you can build whatever you want.

Also want to reiterate how well the PLD program is being run.  They were very communicative prior to my zoom meeting. Everything ran smoothly with the iPod and the zoom meeting was informative and in depth.  I had my virtual with Alex and he is obviously very knowledgable, did the prep work and really listened to the answers I was giving.  He was also extremely responsive and helpful after the zoom meeting - sending pictures, answering questions and even testing putter inside/outside to help me decide on material (unprompted!).

Once again I'm hesitant to post this, but I want to be balanced about my experience with PLD.  My biggest issue with the PLD program is the variance in customer experience, which appears to be very tied to which fitter you get.  My order was placed two months ago and I still haven't received the putter, or even a picture of it.  I've inquired a couple of times about the status.  I was told in mid-June that my putter was delayed more than a month due to staffing availability, then have seen others posting similar Anser-variant putters they received (or at least have pictures of) during that timeframe.   I did receive some Ping swag a month ago as an apology for the delay, which I appreciated, but I'd rather have the putter.  I was told on 7/13 that they would get it done in 1.5 to two weeks.  I was told this week it would ship Thursday or Friday.  Neither of those timeframes were met. I didn't realize that a satin finish on a stainless putter would be so challenging.

 

I get that things don't always go according to plan and stuff happens.  I think I'm a reasonably patient person, but it's frustrating to see post after post of people raving about the experience and how proactive and engaged their fitter has been, which hasn't necessarily been my experience.

I don't want to get into that.  This isn't about calling anyone out.  i just wanted to provide my perspective on PLD.  I think the experience needs to be consistent for the $ paid.

I think dwboston is being unreasonable. I told my fitter to take as much time as needed to accomplish my putter design. The fact that you received a swag bag was above any other custom putter fitter in my opinion. Good things come to those whom wait. Also, PING sends these putters for satin finish to a third party so who knows if the the third party is the delay.  Give them a break as this this a custom program that is in its infancy.
