I've got a stepped shaft in my Kushin 4, which is over the hosel so it wouldn't be the same. but what i do know is Ping always finds a way to do something different. my putter has a 0.390" tip on it and it is some sort of true temper shaft.

 

wonder if Ping is doing the 0.34-something hosel size in plumber necks

Looks near identical to mine, except my PING and PLD colors are different. I did choose blue originally but changed.

Anser 4J, red, white, blue lines, SS w/oyster finish, black steel shaft, pp60 grip, no site aid.

The PLD headcover is really nice as well.  Great build quality and premium materials.  Probably the nicest headcover I've gotten with a custom putter.

looking to buy a used pld ds72. unsure if it's a true custom or not.. milling looks shallow (which could be requested) but color looks very light compared to other carbon steels. maybe the original owner opted no patina finish?

 

do you guys think its legit? i reached out to ping directly and they said its most likely 303 stainless, but i've never seen that color before.

That’s not a PLD Custom. That’s the DS72 from the stock milled line. It’s going to be a 303 Stainless and they must have somehow blasted the original satin finish off of it. Not sure why it’s the color that it is but you can’t Patina 303. Maybe they tried to torch it or something. I’d steer clear of that unless they’re asking under retail for it.

I've got a few rounds in with my PLD Anser 4 and it's a keeper.  It just sets up perfectly for me and the ball rolls where I aim it, which gives me a lot of confidence with the 3-5 footers.  The slightly bigger grip and headweight took a little bit to adjust to, but it really feels like this putter was made for me.  I'm really thrilled with it.

PP58 Midsize with blue lettering.  Most of my putters have been 350g - I went with 355g on this one given the bigger grip.

Oyster finish looks great.  I wish Ping would provide a list of heads and finishes. 

 

I’m wintering in Palm springs and will make the drive to AZ to get a custom done.  I just don’t want to wait that long.

I received an update and my putter has been sent out for the satin finish. I have really enjoyed this process thus far and cant wait to see the final product. Going with a Red, White and Blue color combo and the sole of this putter is quite unique. Looking forward to sharing pics once I receive it!

i removed the paint fill on PROTO to make it more subtle.

I will say, I originally had the midsize grip  and the putter head felt way to light for me then I switched it to the standard ping grip and it feels unreal. I would try to dial in your grip preference before determining the weight especially on blades

So, let it patina?  Eezox?  Silicon spray?    Do you let it just go?

 

I live in a place with 60%+ at all times.  When we drop below that it's cold or weird weather pattern.   Leave my clubs at the course, so enclosed but not truly temp controlled etc.   Coastal environment.   About to take the plunge into a custom built PLD, so carbon or SS?    How much maintenance to keep clean or let it go and see where it takes me?

I think it’s a totally personal thing. I, personally don’t care for the “patin” rusted look, except on an original pickup truck!

It just looks like you don’t care, but hey that’s me 🙂 

 

If you like the look, as a lot do, just let it go and see where it ends up. You can always blast it clean and start over. In a Costal environment without complete storage temperature control you’ll know very quickly. If you want maintenance free go with a powdered coating on SS and be worry free.

 

I went with Stainless Steel to avoid cosmetic issues and the stain type finish to give it a “hand textured” look. It will require some maintenance, but very little.

It’s all about the look you want.
