It's solid copper so I would expect it to age like a penny. Some will be greenish, some will be brownish, some will be nearly black -- it all depends on the care given to the putter and the area where you live (humidity levels, salt in the air, etc...).

I've bought a lot of ping eye 2 becus and putters in the past 20 years.  The darkest/chocolate ones usually come from the southeast.  Florida, Alabama. Georgia, South Carolina, etc.  Salt and humidity is the perfect combination

When did Ping change that up? I swear I thought the September release was carbon and had a patina finish.

They did stainless, bronze, now copper and then golf plated.  The carbon ones are available for all the customs.   

 

It's an amazing program, I'm waiting on my custom build now.

continuing to putt well with my PLD. i did change the grip to a Garsen Quad Tour (the one that is smaller than the one available on the website). 

 

Feeling no urge to game other putters. Only urge is to buy high-end putters for wall hanging purposes lol.

You're not crazy -- PING changed the site a few months back around the time the stainless limited PLD dropped. The website originally said the 3rd limited would be a carbon patina (which pissed me off because I have a carbon patina custom PLD) and the 4th limited would be a 'yet undecided' material and finish. The copper (3rd) and gold-plated (4th) were updated at or around the same time.

That is good to know… thought I was going crazy too. Was looking forward to the patina release!

Excellent turnaround time! Not having tungsten added definitely sped yours up, but isn't the matte black a finish they have to send out to do? And you got Mr. Ping engraved on the sole, right?

Not adding tungsten weight definitely expedited the process, Alex told me that during the fitting. For the matte black they do send them out but it was only a couple of days from when they sent me pictures of the engraving and I received finished pictures.

 

I’ll definitely get some good pics as soon as it arrives.

Question for recent orders...barring people who changed it daily...lol, just kidding @Motoboss , was the ETA on your PO accurate?  

 

Says ETA for shipping...and that would be awesome, just wondering if that held up for most orders...

My estimated ship date on my order says August 23 and I don't think my putter is even close to done. Alex told me there was a small chance it could be 4 weeks, but to expect 5 or 6. 

 

Today marks 3 weeks. If I have it in 3 weeks I'll be pleased as punch.

4-6 wks seemed to be the standard.   Althought seems to be really dependent upon what you're doing to it.  Also, Id bet it's "a head laying around" vs one being milled new.  Just guessing.

Well mine arrived!
 

Fitting was Aug. 4th and arrived last night, Aug 29th.

I had changed from a blue fill to orange and then to gray and added the weight and Proto after the fact. Drove Alex crazy! Still it was done quickly since everything was done in house.

 

It was shipped last Thursday, 2 day FedEx, and arrived last night at 8:30pm. Not a Ping issue just FedEx slow roll.

 

I absolutely LOVE I!! A bit different from the plumbers neck I’m used to but love the way it sits flush with the tri-sole relief and the 2.5 loft really rolls the ball.
Can’t wait to put into play tomorrow.

 

Anser 4J, Oyster finish, Tri-sole relief, black steel shaft, pp60 silver/black grip, red/white/blue line fill, light gray lettering with black engraving fill at 36” length and non milled face.

Great in hand pics, everyone!

 

I'm the guy driving Alex crazy today! During my fitting, we were going through finish options on stainless. I didn't want the mist or the matte black...definitely wanted hand applied. He showed me an in hand pic of oyster and I had seen some pics on this thread...and he talked about another finish but didn't have a real life picture of it...it was kind of goldish but he said looked kind of silver. I went with Oyster because I didn't want to commit to a finish that was just a computer rendering...and the rendering didn't really grab me.

 

Then this morning, I was just putzing around online and googled "PLD Oyster finish" and found this picture of "Glazed Donut Finish"

 

It's the finish Alex didn't have pics of during the fitting, but I saw this and absolutely called to me...very close to the finish on my favorite putter, a chromatic bronze Scotty. I e-mailed Alex and asked if it was too late to change...he said it was not, and then I asked for a color swap on paint with this finish. The guy is a saint.

 

I don't care if my changes add five days or five weeks...I am somehow even more excited about the putter in this finish. And "Glazed Donut" finish is the best name for any spec in golf.

Indeed.   He let me know it was a bit "bronzeish" but very good looking. It was a hard choice but you can go lighter or darker if you like, apparently it's the amount of time they leave the "stain" on that will lighten or darken and they can apply multiple coats as well.  

 

I don't think you can go wrong with the finishes...and there is custom stuff they do in TX that you can get all sorts of finishes applied, true coatings.  Look back in the thread and the company name is mentioned, their site shows all sorts of cool stuff.

It's a really nice finish and not cause I love donuts. Also I'm curious if they can do a double glazed like they do with the Oyster?

If it's hand applied, I would imagine they could.  My fitter told my they could alter the Patina finish lighter to darker since its hand applied.

Yeah all the “stains” are hand applied and done in house.
